@Greencoatblue

This might help.

And we have all ages here. From teens up to, I believe, 80s.

It appears that the older one gets, the more feminism makes sense. Smile

RadandMad · 26/07/2020 00:14

I just couldn't admire her more. True grit, as my mum would say.

TheHeartbeat · 26/07/2020 00:10

Did ya’ll knew Daniel just had a birthday? (23 July)

Man, I really thought TRA would have pulled out a major Twitter campaign since he was the one who wrote a whole speech and all.

I guess the Will Smith, Nick Cannon, Kanye west scandals just took everyone’s celeb attention these past weeks.

Greencoatblue · 26/07/2020 00:05

Time to come clean. I started to read the first HP, couldn't get into it, accused her of "lifting" from The Worst Witch series which I'd enjoyed with my sons. Fast forward and I listened to Stephen Fry (in whose voice I could happily drown) reading the first novel and I was hooked. Let him read the entire series to me. Thought she was a brilliant novelist but no more than that. Watched all the films on video and concluded the books were far superior. ( My go to, rarely find films better or even equal to the original book) Am very late to the party but finally appreciate JKR is a strong, brave woman who has become my hero, I absolutely love and respect her. I'm old so not the demograph these boards are aimed at but gransnet doesn't have a feminist board, and I've finally realised I'm a feminist Smile which I've always been but never had a label for. The only thing I'd really appreciate is either a list of acronyms or for people to occasionally use the full expression. Finally worked out what MAPs meant !

Icedteaplease · 25/07/2020 23:59

I love her!

PotholeParadise · 25/07/2020 23:57

Her tweet about standing with Maya is at 213k likes now. Last time I looked it was at 208k.

Found it. And loads of others!! It looks like quite a lot of newspapers. Will have a look in the "Sunday Times" tomorrow and share if there.

JK Rocks!

I saw something in the Independent too (on Twitter) but can't find it now.

tilder · 25/07/2020 23:39

Thank you JKR. The tweets and the responses are the highlight of my week.

JackiesArmy · 25/07/2020 22:11

I thought it would be interesting to keep an eye on the number of "likes" - it's currently at 7.6K.

LockdownLump · 25/07/2020 21:05

Absolutely love her for shining a light on this absolute shit show.

Bloody hero

TheShoesa · 25/07/2020 18:20

@Murraygoldberg If you are considering contacting her, just do it!

I felt compelled to email JKR's office after seeing the abuse she got after the 'people who menstruate' tweet, having never done anything like that before and got a response thanking me for my support.

She is such an inspiring woman and I really hope that getting emails and letters of support and thanks helps in some way to offset the vile threats and abuse that get sent to her. I thanked her for her books (I'm a Robert Galbraith fan, my kids love HP) as well as for her standing up for women and girls when others don't. I love that she has kept going with bringing this issue to a wider audience.

chunkyrun · 25/07/2020 17:45

She really is a beacon of light in all this

Siablue · 25/07/2020 17:43

@Kantastic

Would "Umbridges" be a better name for "handmaidens?"
They very much would. It’s the truth twisting and the sucking up to power that really distinguishes an Umbridge.
SheWhoMustNotBeHeard · 25/07/2020 17:40

“Dark times lie ahead of us and there will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right." Albus Dumbledore

I always think of this quote when I think of JKR and what she is doing.

PaulineScrambledPhones · 25/07/2020 17:39

I am so, so, so glad JKR is speaking up. I am so proud that she won’t be silenced or bullied into following the TRA line. She is so important.

HesMyLobster · 25/07/2020 17:37

*to be

HesMyLobster · 25/07/2020 17:36

She is brave and brilliant.
I was surprised at the lack of TRA responses.
Perhaps it's because they've all blocked her so they don't have to subjected to the trauma of science, facts and critical thinking.

MrsWooster · 25/07/2020 17:35

@IloveJKRowling

She's amazing. I also love how she writes all kinds of female characters from Hermione to Molly Weasley to Bellatrix. I also love how Narcissa Malfoy's desire to save her child is Voldemort's ultimate undoing. I think there is a lesson in that particular part of the story.
Indeed! It’s deeply moving to see her standing against the harmful excessives of this ideology, at such personal cost, just to stand for what is right and true.
lady69 · 25/07/2020 17:31

The comments are positive by some margin. Good.

ToriaPumpkin · 25/07/2020 17:30

Gods I love her. She has made several of my friends sit up and take note of what's happening.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 25/07/2020 17:30

Thank you, again, JKR. Your ability to cut through the crap and your willingness to stand up for what is right is phenomenal, awe inspiring, and so, so welcomed.

IDanielRadcliffe · 25/07/2020 17:27

She is amazing! It’s insane to think we may look back on history and see it took a popular fiction writer (understatement I know) to make some people sit up and notice this.
