@TirisfalPumpkin

I can get hating the ideology behind the bible / what it has been used to justify, but making it your most hated book just looks like more dim, dogmatic edgy atheism.

(shameless place mark)

Maybe, but can you think of any other book which has been of so much use over the millennia to the oppressors of women, and homophobes?

In the specific context of feminism it's hard to think of a single book which has had a worse influence. It could be characterised as the handbook of a religion designed by and for men, starting with the story of Adam and Eve.

Uterus havers weekly

Sexnotgender · 25/07/2020 07:58

@highame

They'll fool us all and put it in the Woman's Own
Is that still a thing? How horribly transphobic. Surely it should be menstruators own.

Freespeecher · 25/07/2020 07:47

I remember years ago the Independent asked a lot of their writers what their most hated book was. Half of them said The Bible (how edgy! Or at least it would be if you were the only one to give that answer) and most of the others said Lord of the Rings.

Can't help feeling that the first lot are missing out, if only on a whole host of begatting, smiting and trepanning (oh, and I loved Lord of the Rings too. Suppose this means I can never write for the Indy. Oh well).

MrsJamin · 25/07/2020 06:46

I checked too. Perhaps it's going to be in the sunday times?

McDuffy · 25/07/2020 05:55

Up early with my crap-sleeper kids, can't see anything at first glance in Saturday Times!

FloralBunting · 25/07/2020 00:46

The pages in bibles are usually really good for roll ups, so if there were any interesting herbs on the island, you could use the bible to, erm, be enlightened...

TinselAngel · 25/07/2020 00:40

You'd end up either eating or burning the Bible.

FannyCann · 25/07/2020 00:16

I'm loving the little segue into biblical discussion.

Excellent diversion Biology

I often wish I could wind up on a desert Island with the Bible, Shakespeare and another book. If I never escaped at least I'd die educated. Assuming the island was a lush and bountiful one so that one's time wasn't wasted scrabbling round trying to survive.

And thanks for the explanation Floral and Cloche.

Trepanned the fucker.

That could almost be the biblical version of a sex game gone wrong defence. Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 25/07/2020 00:10

There used to be an interesting poster on the philosophy&religion boards with the NN HolofernesHead.

BiologyNotBigotry · 24/07/2020 23:53

I'm loving the little segue into biblical discussion... Personally, I love the story a little later in the book of Judges, chapter 9, where a woman drops a millstone on Abimelek & cracks his skull. He's still well enough to ask his servant to stab him so no-one could say he was killed by a woman. If he was conscious then maybe he could've recovered but, nope, he'd rather have his mate murder him just in case... Oh, the shame of being killed by a woman!

nauticant · 24/07/2020 22:56

I'm with FloralBunting. If Johnson acts to limit the effects of judicial reviews it will be to limit the scope of judge made law where no law existed before rather than those challenges which oblige public and other bodies to comply with existing statute law such as the Equality Act 2010.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 24/07/2020 22:54

Keep eyes on this developing. Its more important than rumours about those beginning with S.

Given the number of captured organisations and how readily some MPs are lobbied, you're right to flag this, Red

FloralBunting · 24/07/2020 22:49

It should concern us, Red, definitely.

I'm just feeling pretty positive about what's already in the pipeline. There's always going to fresh hurdles thrown in our way. We leap them as they come.

RedToothBrush · 24/07/2020 22:41

Hmmm this might be bad news for those looking for judicial reviews...

... this really could screw gender critical women seeking to overturn institutional nonsense which is rewriting the law in practice.

This concerns me.

What's red and sits in the corner?

A naughty bus!

Winesalot · 24/07/2020 22:36

Well! What’s happening next week? A continuation of this weekend’s event?

Are the red tops coming to take over the UK then?

teawamutu · 24/07/2020 22:30

Just got an email from KJK-M (Standing For Women):

I know that this weekend is going to be nearly as good as next week..... keep your eyes peeled.

THIS IS NOT FAIR.

Trepanned the fucker GrinGrin I've been looking for a new username and that has promise Grin

CatandtheFiddle · 24/07/2020 21:48

TransgenderTrend, LGB Alliance and Safe Schools Alliance. The first two are well known as being anti-trans so I'm out

What evidence do you have that they're anti-trans? Unless you define pro-same sex relationships (LGB Alliance) as anti-trans.

If that's your definition, most things in this world are anti-trans, including women's rights.

BitOfFun · 24/07/2020 21:37

Stonewall me, these paintings are marvellous!

rednsparkley · 24/07/2020 21:10

This all sounds very promising makes mental note to purchase Sunday Times

Loving the artwork too
