I was just reading the latest tweet and noticed that we get a mention in the responses

That's hilarious!

Agreed that it's all feeling a bit strung along now. However I have massively enjoyed this thread.

Also, while I know it's been mainly light-hearted, I have also enjoyed the fact that there has been discussion of some issues (thinking of the Bible/religion/patriarchy stuff) where there are probably deeply felt disagreements between posters and yet the conversation has been pleasant, informative and quite thoughtful.

People disagree and yet no one has been instructed to die in a fire. Who would have thought that was even possible?

CillaTape · 26/07/2020 09:18

@Mydogisthebestest agreed. Being strung along is exactly it. I think it comes across very badly. Its creates unnecessary feeling of people "in the know" and people "out of it", no one needs that kind of patronising division especially at the moment. It's silly, unprofessional and demeans what feminism is trying to achieve, making us look like squabbles between milk monitors rather than life and death situations.

I have to say that I was horrified a few years ago when I discovered the seal behaviour towards penguins.

I discovered it when my daughter was told she was wrong in placing penguins as a food source for seals when studying food chains. She’d done this exercise in Sydney (studying Anartica) less than 12 months prior to repeating it again in London (food chains). She was most indignant because she knew she was correct. And he’d used the words ‘good friends’ when describing the relationship in nature.

I was looking for a resource to show her so that she could refer the teacher to it and discovered so much more than I expected. Not only do they eat penguins, they can be very cruel in the way they play with them sometimes before eating them. And yes... rape is just one of the things they do.

So in the end, we told her to maybe ask her teacher to do his own google search when speaking to him quietly and mention not to do that with the class watching. And to not ever say that penguins and seals were good friends again. Grin

boatyardblues · 26/07/2020 09:11

I’ve enjoyed this meandering thread and all the diversions (except for the rapist seals), but I agree with being done with the hints and winks. Enough already!

Mydogisthebestest · 26/07/2020 09:10

Yeah I’m kinda over this now too.

I don’t like this way of doing it. Just tell us when there’s news but this feels like we are being strung along. And I personally don’t like it.

ItsLateHumpty · 26/07/2020 09:09

I have very much enjoyed this thread, still bloody 😬 at the waiting thing though.
What’s not to like with a Kill Bill Jesus and marauding, frisky sea dogs.

I have washed. And I’m going to open some wine.

Cheers.

CillaTape · 26/07/2020 09:07

Another cryptic message from SFW. I'm actually over this now. I don't want to play this like some sort of petty cluedo game.

highame · 26/07/2020 09:01

Excellent, now the thread can get back to bibles, penguins, pornography and all the important stuff our daily lives revolve around.

I wonder how long we'll have to wait, I haven't washed since the teaser was announced

NonnyMouse1337 · 26/07/2020 09:00

How much longer?? 😭

This had better be good.

Awning10 · 26/07/2020 08:56

From Fair Cop:

Regarding our earlier teaser - really sorry to have to keep you waiting but we are going to ask you to be patient a little longer.

As soon as we can let you know, we will.

And we hope you will agree it’s been worth waiting for

ErrolTheDragon · 26/07/2020 08:51
  • I’m really disappointed in the seals. I’ve always thought of them as cheerful sea dogs, but they’re actually penguin rapists??

Cheerful sea dogs with no cushions or human legs available.

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/07/2020 08:48

Learned behaviour, yes, the root of many feminist issues...

FannyCann · 26/07/2020 08:45

The seal behaviour is increasing, it's learned behaviour and their mates are copying. So that's how pornography works.

Just be careful when you have an open air shag not to do it near the seals.

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/07/2020 08:15

Not forgetting of course that biblical themes were the main fodder of artists for centuries... that patriarchal corset is well tied up.

EmpressJKRowlingSpartacus · 26/07/2020 08:15

That’s really interesting, Neurotrash, and something I know practically nothing about.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 26/07/2020 08:15

Brill, ta Neurotrash.

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/07/2020 08:13

Here it is, it's absolutely mind blowing.

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/07/2020 08:12

Donning art history hard hat, I think they're trying to change the narrative around Gentileschi's importance as an artist away from allowing her rape and rapist to define her life and work.

She was exceptionally good at using colour and light and also at depicting the female form in ways male artists couldn't.

Her works show many women from biblical and mythological stories as strong and clever.

There was a truly brilliant and hard hitting programme on r4 recently by an art historian who described how art history was written by men, as as such, used as a patriarchal tool.

testing987654321 · 26/07/2020 08:06

I read Leviticus once, and remember wondering why no-one ever mentioned the need to do a sacrifice of birds after each period.
Why is this never mentioned?

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/07/2020 08:04

Are the thighs back? I've been missing them.

testing987654321 · 26/07/2020 07:59

Posie Parker is also excited about something which has nothing to do with fair cop.

This is going to drive me mad!

EmpressJKRowlingSpartacus · 26/07/2020 07:37

@ThighthighOfthigh

Hmm did someone mention penguins? As long as it wasn't a sex frog.
You’re right Tinsel, I did wake the Thighs!
NonnyMouse1337 · 26/07/2020 07:36

@DianasLasso

This (barring the fact that they unnaccountably don't use the King James version) has to be the definitive approachable version of the Bible. www.thebricktestament.com/

It is particularly good for Leviticus.

I also found the LOLcat Bible an entertaining alternative.

The things you learn on here!

My favourite wacky bible bit is where Jesus goes all Kill Bill in Revelation, rampaging through a wasteland overrun with horse like woman faced locusts with scorpion tails, then a sword pops out of his mouth and kills everyone. Hard not to get a kick out of that trip Grin
