JK is getting a slating on Waterstones FB page's Ickabog promotion. I've added a positive comment, would others want to do the same.

If any of you is Kirsty Johnston then well done! You're on top form with your comments Flowers

@Gingernaut

I noticed that the derogatory comments came from men. Hmm
Odd that

That Twitter feed is oddly pleasant! Don't think I've ever read so much positivity anywhere on Twitter. Maybe Waterstones just isn't on their radar?!

Thanks for the heads up

Need to start my christmas shopping...

SerenityNowwwww · 22/07/2020 17:27

Is that because they can read (more than 280 characters at a time)?

SunsetBeetch · 22/07/2020 17:26

There are far more supportive comments than not. Good to see!

sourdoughismyreligion · 22/07/2020 17:17

Most of the comments are positive that I can see.

Love the comment from Wild woman writing club “The forces of endarkenment are out in force on this thread“ Grin

The links to JK's essay have stayed up, so hopefully some of this who are bemused by the activists comments will read the other side of it all.

Facebook comments are often even more stupid than Twitter. Men like them as they can write massive screeds.

sillysmiles · 22/07/2020 16:11

I know this is not the point of this thread, but I'm just disappointed it isn't out until November. Was just about to buy one for my niece.

SerenityNowwwww · 22/07/2020 16:06

Where are you preordering from?

Gingernaut · 22/07/2020 16:05

I noticed that the derogatory comments came from men. Hmm

OllyBJolly · 22/07/2020 16:03

Ordered!

I'm actually encouraged by the number of supporting comments.

EllenRipley · 22/07/2020 15:48

Thanks for flagging this up. I've been on the page and said my piece; chose the woke misogynist. There were so many to choose from, it was difficult.

I am so fed up of all this.

notyourhandmaid · 22/07/2020 15:45

"I will not be buying her book" say bearded men who reveal themselves incapable of reading and/or understanding a long-ish blog post.

W0nderW0man · 22/07/2020 15:41

I just picked up one of the comments from some idiot calling her a Terf, not to buy etc and asked what specifically did Jo say to upset them and unsurprisingly they replied to say that they've signed out now so won't be replying! I'm finding that the people shouting her down struggle to actually quote her hate speech as, you know, she's not actually done anything of the sort.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 22/07/2020 15:35

Have also registered my support on there. I'm glad Waterstones isn't allowing its policy to be dictated by a vocal minority of loons

FloralBunting · 22/07/2020 15:35

I am kind of amused by this stuff from people who are desperate to punish the wicked woman, but don't want to come right out and say they want to restrict free speech.

"Yes, she is free to talk about women's rights, but she needs to know there will be consequences for it!!"

One of them on that thread basically says that free speech means she can't be prosecuted for her words, but it doesn't mean other people can't verbally abuse her, and you just know that he's really hacked off that she can't be prosecuted, and sees no disconnect between socially punishing her spoken desire to protect women and his own desire to freely intimidate women he disagrees with.
