According to the link where Boris Johnson specifically says gay conversion therapy:

But Liberal Democrat leadership contender Layla Moran accused the Government of "dragging its feet" on the issue, after tabling a motion in Parliament to ban conversion therapy last month which won the backing of 21 MPs.

"No-one should be told that their identity is wrong and needs to be cured," she said.

Why has she changed it to 'identity'?

Mr Johnson also promised a full update on whether the Government has plans to update the Gender Recognition Act - including whether to allow self-identifiation, which would make it easier for people to change their gender marker on official documents - over the summer.

How much easier can it get to change your SEX marker on official documents? I quite fancy identifying as 67 to get my pension and mooch around all day but...

Penny promised an enquiry into the rise in the number of girls believing they are trans, this never happened.....if Liz gets the chop this problem isn’t going to disappear, it’s out in the open now & people are rightly angry.

There'll be some very high level guilt tripping going on.
I hope that one thing the government is watching is the interesting phenomenon of organisations backing away at the mention of the courts. All those assertions (Stonewall law) about children and puberty blockers and safety, no legal issues with women having the rights to single sex spaces removed, not to mention sport (good timing World Rugby) and the NHS changing its guidance on puberty blockers.
While the TRAs continue to froth, it appears that very very slowly, some organisations are beginning to step away from these extremist views as safety, safeguarding and competing rights are finally being spoken about and heard. Whether this government is strong enough to stand up to the pressure I'm not sure. I do hope so.

I think the UK could repeal the GRA. Give trans women legal recognition as trans women, and trans men legal recognition as trans men. They will both be protected by the PC of gender reassignment. Any existing GRCs can be grandfathered. Third spaces can be provided alongside women only. This is not impossible.

Trans boys and trans men and the primogeniture exemption ... funny how we don't much about that from the TRAs.

It was a sop to circumvent gay marriage.

Surely the transitioning of minors is the very definition of gay conversion therapy. Safeguarding of children must be prioritised over grown mens feelings. I just don’t understand why Lizz doesn’t make an announcement now-think of the harm being done while she dithers & delays....

It is, but the trans community see conversion therapy as therapists challenging children with gender dysphoria?

But yes I'd argue in many cases transing kids is gay conversion therapy.

Danny Kruger is right but the global trans movement will implode if they repeal the GRA. I'm pretty sure Truss would be aware of the fallout and I doubt the current Govt has the guts to do that. Also - the logistics regarding who already has a GRC - how would that work?

The only updating this Act needs is the recognition that it is no longer needed now that single-sex marriage is legal. As Danny Kruger MP recently stated, the state has no business getting involved in people’s gender, but it does need to recognise that the biological sexes are both real and different. The update that is needed is for it to be repealed.

Imnobody4 I too am extremely heartened that the 'word 'gay' was added to conversion therapy. I am horrified to hear what is going on in the States where if pyschs deviate from the 'affirmation only model' for trans youth it can be a criminal offence. (the Joe Rogan and Abigal Shrier podcast is great on this).

TransActual said they had heard it would be before the summer recess - so that's this week isn't it? Also heard some rumours from another MP source that the 'trans thing' is about to blow up. I'm trying not to get my hopes up!

its astonishing how the most vulnerable group in society manages to have MPs quaking in a way that women, people with disabilities, people from black and minorithy ethnic communities, carers etc never seem to be able too....
