Has this been posted already? It's from an email they sent. I saw it on Twitter so I'll be back with links.

I just don’t understand how anyone could wander into this Waterloo these days without understanding that it will cause a drop in donations and bad press. There will be a nasty whiff around them now.

How shortsighted can you get.

midclegs · 15/07/2020 19:51

I think the Baroness already knows but I'm not sure she does about the Pankhurst connection.

Do we have any legal bods on here? I write a few letters on these sorts of matters (although nothing as outrageous as this) but I'm never sure if I use the right words.

OvaHere · 15/07/2020 19:48

@Xanthangum

This is worse than the Tesco/ Amazon/ Starbucks Mermaids tie ups. So much worse - this could destroy a brilliant charity that does really important work.

Emergency trustee zoom tonight lads?

It's just so incredibly stupid. Assuming it's true then it's Ratners level stupid in terms of tarnishing the brand if the media decide to go to town on it.

At least with Ratners most of the victims of the stupidity were either wealthy shareholders or at the very least people who could get another job and move on. Here the victims of any potential fall out are very vulnerable women and girls.

happydappy2 · 15/07/2020 19:44

email enquiries take up to 48 hours for a response.....really hope they put out a statement before then. Am hoping this is just a hoax

SerenityNowwwww · 15/07/2020 19:42

@DianasLasso

Who do we give to instead of Action Aid?

Plan International? Christian Aid? (Who, despite the name, don't push Christianity as part of their work - my staunchly and vocally atheist ex used to give to Christian Aid Grin. I was the Action Aid supporter in the household.)

Recommendations for charities who know that FGM, sex-selective abortion, infanticide, child marriage, denial of abortion rights happen because of sex not gender feelz.

SOS children’s villages.

@Standardy

You can kind of expect this kind of crap from some woke, virtue signalling company, but it's disgusting from a charity many people donate to at least in part as they claim to protect girls and women. If this is true, won't be getting another penny from me, will find another who does similar work but actually cares about women.
I don't think anyone has gone this far though, have they?

It's one thing to argue that TW are women (because you can say that, under the EA and gender identity, any qualifying individual is a legal fiction of the opposing sex), but it's an entirely different beast to say there is no such thing as a biological female.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 15/07/2020 19:36

I'm not on twitter, has anyone let the Baroness know about this one?

Sicario · 15/07/2020 19:33

Like so many other charities and organisations, they have been "Stonewalled". Stonewall has been misrepresenting the law and peddling their rewritten version of the Equality Act, under the guise of "diversity training".

Single-sex protections and rights are written very clearly into UK law.

Stonewall needs to be investigated, held to account, and their illegal "guidelines" removed from every single institution in the UK.

(That's just been posted on a WhatsApp group I'm on from a very reputable source...)

midclegs · 15/07/2020 19:29

The Interim co-Chair of Action Aid UK is one Helen Pankhurst, granddaughter of Sylvia, great-granddaughter of Emmeline.

highame · 15/07/2020 19:27

Registered in UK (England Scotland Wales) so must be bound by UK Law

Idontlikewednesdays · 15/07/2020 19:25

We’ve lost the plot.

Packingsoapandwater · 15/07/2020 19:21

@highame

Wait a minute, this is an unlawful statement.

What action to take, suggestions please

I don't know. I'm pretty shocked at the moment, and I'm not entirely sure what the real world implications are yet.

But they are refuting a legal definition on which a substantial amount of legislation rests, so they then cannot, by their own declaration, conform to that legislation. They are declaring that they will not conform to UK law.

I suppose the first step would be to ensure they are actually bound to UK law. If they are, then I suppose a second step would be to write to their legal team asking for clarification. And then take it from there.

I'm quite flabbergasted at the lack of oversight here. It's like posting a sticker on your forehead saying "Sue us". Confused

bishopgiggles · 15/07/2020 19:20

@Packingsoapandwater

Wait a minute, this is an unlawful statement.

Action Aid are denying the protected characteristic of sex by saying there is no such thing as a biologically female body. Ergo, they are stating that they will not adhere to the Equality Act 2010.

The Equality Act is law. Its definitions are law.

Action Aid have made a statement that says they will not conform to the law. They cannot do this; it's illegal.

Exactly! This is quite a spectacular statement from an aid charity. More than your average gender bollocks - I can't see a way anyone could argue this without being a paid-up biology non-believer.
Apollo440 · 15/07/2020 19:15

This is massively disappointing if true. I've supported them precisely because of the work they do with women and girls in the 3rd world. I've asked for clarification before I stop my standing order.

flapjackfairy · 15/07/2020 19:14

I think this is a clever way of solving the problem of period poverty ! Obviously if there are no biological female bodies then periods cannot exists !
Viola ! Problem solved !
I can't imagine why no one thought of it before!

Michelleoftheresistance · 15/07/2020 19:09

When a charity addressing such extreme need world wide has enough time and manpower to existentially deconstruct womanhood and turn half the human race into a thought experiment.... you start to feel they have far too many people sitting in offices who have far too little real work to do, and to wonder where the bloody hell people's money is going.

StealthPolarBear · 15/07/2020 19:04

This is hugely frustrating

WeeBisom · 15/07/2020 19:01

Really looking forward to Movember coming out with a statement that there's no such thing as 'biological males'. I'm sure that would go down a treat.

highame · 15/07/2020 19:01

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 15/07/2020 19:01

I did have a look at the plan international website

I didn’t spot anything...but could obviously have missed something

greenestolives · 15/07/2020 18:59

I hope this isn't real.

If it is then AAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is getting bloody ridiculous now. What the fuck to they mean when they say there is no such thing as biological sex? Utter tossers.

cheeseismydownfall · 15/07/2020 18:57

@Datun thank you Blush

@GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman, of course! Although if you do, I'd change the last sentence to read

Am I correct in thinking that you have evidence that self identifying girls with penises are at equal risk of FGM?

Because I originally said biological male children, who of course don't exist now Hmm
