I think the violence which is explicit in some of the imagery and words is driven by a fatal purity and a gaze as blank and pitiless as the sun. There is a revolutionary zeal in the Robespierre faction. They think they are morally righteous. They see the world in Manichean terms. Anyone who dissents is an enemy. Not just in a matter of opinion. In an existential struggle against 'evil.' Conservatives. Capitalists. Women. The list of denunciations keeps growing. It is chilling.

As much as I disagree I can understand why they might want to tell someone to fuck off forever. Is it just that they're worried the shunning won't take without being backed by the threat of violence?

I remember when "punch a Nazi" first happened and it made me deeply uneasy, seeing so many people I'd known for years gleefully celebrating the idea of escalation to direct physical violence, and how none of them seemed to understand that once that's OK there's never any guarantee that it won't be you next.

Because everyone knows you can't be worried about more than one thing. If you're worried about freedom of speech, obviously you don't give a crap about the pandemic. I'm sure Bloomberg Opinion were entirely consistent in this stance and also released threads of outrage against the people campaigning for BLM and trans rights and the other problems that didn't magically stop while covid took hold.

I recommend googling 'Johnny Smugface', it's a funny parody of wokeness, the videos of him discusing JK Rowling made me really laugh, his one on cancel culture is good too.

LGBT groups in academia are a tiny group shouting at everyone.

Their agenda is forced upwards and crystalises in Diversity and inclusion teams.

Who then demand compliance on pain of cancellation.

In general in academia this is seen as part of a youth trend we have to acknowledge and reflect but the student imperative to replace normal expectations of behaviour with student preferences doesn't get past any actual legal frameworks in reality.

Bari Weiss is genuinely speaking truth to power. And it sounds as if the NYT is exactly like academia: full of people who disagree, but are too scared to say so.

That's light years from, "people should be able to legally change sex based on nothing but their own word, without any significant qualifying period, and immediately have a much stronger argument to access single sex spaces and provisions". And it's not even in the same ballpark as, "should biologically male people be able to use women's communal changing rooms, dorms, and sleeper cabins as a right, as long as they say they feel like a woman?" Ask the public that, and see what answers you get.

When Pink News asked the first question honestly, they found 18% agreed with them. Everyone else was a variation of ARE YOU ON GLUE? And that was why they kept rewording it until they came up with an answer they liked.

Jones knows this. He just doesn't care. What do facts matter, and risks and humiliations he won't ever have to personally deal with, just as long as he can force his views on women?

It must take a staggering lack of critical thought to praise up in such a wholesale way one of the main proponents of cancel culture when you yourself made you name and living by saying a load of really nasty, offensive things about children, disable people and women. It's a really interesting idea IMO. However - it might also be contentious around the idea of what counts as "women's labour". Not as in transwomen, but in the sense that I think a significant group would not want to associate that kind of unpaid labour with women. Their goal would be to have men take on half of all that.

A few years ago I went down a rabbit hole and did a lot of reading around the importance and social value of unpaid labour. I think it would be really worthwhile to have an organisation that in some way represented that perspective - it seems like we have representatives for the commercial viewpoint but no other.

I wonder if you could say that groups like the WI functioned, at least to some extent, that way. A lot of the stuff that used to be very common at agricultural fairs and such was focused on work done by women.

In view of my case being featured prominently in the Mail on Sunday’s article “What it feels like to be cancelled” on 12 July, I feel it’s now time I published what I would like to say to the readers of the Morning Star (MS), the newspaper who cancelled me back in February. The paper are unable to publish it, because their hands are tied by the big trade unions who fund them. Notably the GMB and Unison, who pressured them to apologise for printing my cartoon, called ” Endgame”.

Although other unions were braver, and assured the paper they would not join in with the censorship – a shout out here to the CWU, and USDAW.

Some Trade Unions no longer represent their members. Unison is a predominantly female union.

Twitter has become a virtual pre action letter with everyone flinging claims and counter claims at each other.

It's the definition of a waste of space.

Near the end If “cancel culture” is a term that encompasses both the famous and the nonfamous, social media mobs and risk-averse employers, firings and consumer boycotts, then it means nothing at all. It is, like “political correctness” before it, simply a name people give to things they do not like.

So the whole article which repeats "cancel culture" again and again, thinks it's a meaningless term like political correctness. Yet the letter writers never used the term.

What is great about this is that the writer then goes on to say how they do a podcast showing how people misremember controversies because they are misrepresented in the media.

Exactly like he does in this article.
