Twitter has decided that saying "Only females get cervical cancer" is hateful.

Twitter to ban tens of thousands of accounts due to this ‘hateful conduct’.

So now ... it's trending on Twitter.

Take that, Twitter.

As a slightly off topic point of interest, there is no name for the mucus that helps keep the vagina healthy. I do think vaginas are a wonderful biological thing. Those that have had bottom surgery, I do wonder if it's been explicitly explained that what the surgeons create will not act like a vagina.

ShiveringCoyote · 12/07/2020 10:18

Biological science deniers are just so enmeshed that anything that does not include the transwomen narrative is immediately attacked.

Women in Ireland died because of a recent cervical screening fuck up that they tried to cover up. Breast screening is due to be resumed in September and I wonder how many women will suffer because of a late diagnosis.

ThatsHowWeRowl · 12/07/2020 09:49

Transwomen ie. Males cannot get cervical cancer. Cancer cells that may form in a 'neo-cervix' are not cervical cancer cells, they are cancer cells of whatever organ was used to create the area. A transwoman needing investigation in this area would not not able to go and see the practice nurse in the local GP and get a normal smear test, they would need someone specially trained to ensure an investigation had been carried out properly.

Hmm, perhaps the people with the magical cervices have more in common with JKR than they admit.

PennyNotSoWise · 12/07/2020 09:44

Its hard not to feel sad for men undergoing this surgery, ending up with continuous odourous infections. Maybe thats how they imagine women are and it doesn’t bother them.

There's a lot of delusion surrounding it.

When GC was still up on Reddit there was a link to a page of TW telling others how amazing their man made vagina was. So good in fact that their gynaecologist couldn't even tell the difference between theirs and a real one Hmm Either that gynaecologist needs to be struck off immediately, they were pandering to bullshit, or those posters were full of shit.

Not to mention how cruel that is, giving people false hope of what can be achieved.

PennyNotSoWise · 12/07/2020 09:33

FFS.

It's not incorrect to state that only females get cervical cancer, so how the hell can something true be hateful speech? Biological reality is hate speech? Ludicrious. They're not doing themselves any favours and as soon as this all blows up their faces, the better.

Well done Twitter, throwing women under the bus to validate fucking men.

PumbaasCucumbas · 12/07/2020 09:33

Sorry ‘to’ not you

PumbaasCucumbas · 12/07/2020 09:32

Fannycann - thanks for that link, eye opening and very sad. Even down to the size of the speculae they struggled to fit in. Fascinating by comparison to the perfectly evolved biological vagina and all it’s self-care features. I do wonder if abnormal bacterial colonisation/surgical trauma plus known HPV risk could predispose you specific cancers of the neovagina as time goes on?

Do you think people are warned about this? Is it worth swapping this for a healthy penis?

@gardenbird48

Twitter quote ‘just because someone is biologically female doesn’t mean they are female’ hmm I think it does. I don’t get the impression that when people medically transition they have their ops and then tootle off with out any need for regular checkups/hormone tests/checks on the surgery sites etc so I would assume that they will have a close enough relationship with their medical providers that no one is under any illusion about their biological sex and the relevant requirements.
If they've accessed medical transition privately, or hormones online, they may not have a good relationship with their GP and so miss appropriate screening services.

This is a Canadian link. The NHS state that trans women do not require screening for cervical cancer as they do not have a cervix.
www.gov.uk/government/publications/nhs-population-screening-information-for-transgender-people/nhs-population-screening-information-for-trans-people
The surgery required to construct a vagina in a man does not use cervical tissue and there is absolutely no evidence of men having cervical cancer. However, Canada is completely batshit as they think that people can miraculously change sex.

Doyoumind · 12/07/2020 08:54

Just seen it's still trending and had a look through some tweets. Why people are tweeting that trans men and NBs can get it and it's transphobic I don't know. It shows that we aren't even allowed the word female any more. Even if you don't identify as a woman you are one biologically. Nothing can change that. Goes against the 'no one is saying sex isn't real' argument somewhat.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 12/07/2020 06:50

That study makes for disturbing reading FannyCann

“Although this was not a study criterion and therefore not scored, a foul smell of the vagina was observed in most patients.”

Its hard not to feel sad for men undergoing this surgery, ending up with continuous odourous infections. Maybe thats how they imagine women are and it doesn’t bother them. Confused

monkeyonthetable · 12/07/2020 06:48

Eventually, all that will happen is that the woke social media platforms will be dropped by people who think for themselves and new, niche platforms will grow up which encourage free speech, genuine debate, fact over fairyland, and the new platforms will be the hotbed of intelligent discussion while Twitter and Reddit and others will decay into witch-hunts and flounces. They don't have monopoly control on how people think and communicate. They only assume they do.

Kantastic · 12/07/2020 06:42

Cancer is specific to tissue types.

Transwomen don't have cervical tissue. That weird article that was posted about the "neo-cervix" is written in a deliberately confusing way, presumably to "validate" its target audience, who often seem to find the creation of confusion around women's issues validating.

Winesalot · 12/07/2020 06:33

The amount of women accusing other women of ‘gatekeeping’ cancer is astounding. They are missing the point that a) this obscuring the language has dangerous health risks for women and b) people are supposedly not denying their biological reality. That is what they started saying after JKR pointed out that they were.

If people are not denying their biological reality twitter should not be banning tweets saying ‘only females get cervical cancer’.

John Cleese was right. Overly sensitive people should not be setting the bar for allowable discourse. The cracks in allowing this to have moved so far are showing clearly now.

EdgeOfACoin · 12/07/2020 06:23

Well this apparently is the Final death knell Of male/female=sex and woman/man=gender

Wasn't there an MSP who declared that transwomen were adult human females? Confused

TheMistressQuickly · 12/07/2020 06:16

Well, you need a cervix to have cervical cancer. People born with a penis (men/males) clearly can’t get cervical cancer. Jeez.

FannyCann · 12/07/2020 06:10

The faux vagina is a festering soup of bacteria, then there is the issue of HPV.
Penile cancer is very rare although I have known a handful of patients with it. So I suppose there is a risk of something going on "down there". Not cervical cancer as we know it obviously.

I was going to say all that would be needed would be a vaginal swab but I suppose a cancer might be localised to a particular area and would need careful visualisation of the whole neo-vagina , so a totally different procedure to a cervical smear. I'm just surmising there though. Clearly.relevant healthcare should be given by a specialist urologist.

Winesalot · 12/07/2020 06:00

Surely cervical cancer is about that organ and not about that location???

Winesalot · 12/07/2020 06:00

I had written about how would that painful device even work and deleted it.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 12/07/2020 05:50

I did a little research and it looks as HPV infection can increase the risk of penile cancer in men. However its not very a very common cancer < 1%. I would guess that surgeons inverting penile tissue to create a faux-vagina would check for lesions or warts.

On the other hand, cervical cancer is the second most common cancer for women and readily detected through screening.

So “cervical” screening for transwoman might be useful in rare cases, but I imagine the screening techniques would need to be different from that used for women, taking into account that the faux-vagina/cervix is a surgical procedure and the female vagina an organ of the female body.

Winesalot · 12/07/2020 05:42

Maybe it is all in the name ??? Ie whatever tissue it is constructed out of has developed cancer and this is now called cervical cancer but it should be explicitly called whatever the cervix is made off.

Unless they are transplanting cervixes? Are they?

Neo vaginas are made from penile tissue, aren't they? So are neo cervixes also? I think what that link is really saying (very carefully) is "this is a bit of you which can get cancer, talk to your doctor and figure out your risk", not "you can get cervical cancer, get cervical screening". Of course that's not how it's being read or used on twitter...
