Twitter has decided that saying "Only females get cervical cancer" is hateful.

Twitter to ban tens of thousands of accounts due to this ‘hateful conduct’.

So now ... it's trending on Twitter.

Take that, Twitter.

So are neo cervixes also?

What on Earth is a neo cervix? Is it referring to the blunt end of a tube made out of whatever tissue a surgeon has used? Do they really think they have a cervix? If so why are they being lead to believe such rubbish?

FannyCann · 12/07/2020 13:27

Oh God. Nothing like a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent, is there?

GrinGrinGrin

I'm shamelessly going to steal that one!

FannyCann · 12/07/2020 13:26

I'm amused to see so many outraged TRA's and NB's posting the hashtag along with their words of outrage. Don't they realise they are helping keep it trending? Hmm

PennyNotSoWise · 12/07/2020 13:24

It's a huge health inequality caused directly by trans-activists insisting on medical records showing them as the gender they identify as, rather than their actual biological sex. If your GP has you recorded as a man then no, you won't get calls for cervical screening.

This was what got my back up when Daniel Radcliffe waded into the row and declared that TWAW. He was responding to JKR talking about periods, which trans MEN and not women experience. But he didn't say shit about trans men. Their own community is excluding trans men.

TRAs are so contradictory. They pushed to be recognised as their gender and not their sex, yet it's somehow now the fault of us nasty women that they are being treated how they asked to be treated. But it's absolutely not a misogynistic movement. Not at all.

R0wantrees · 12/07/2020 13:15

Neo vaginas are made from penile tissue, aren't they? So are neo cervixes also? I think what that link is really saying (very carefully) is "this is a bit of you which can get cancer, talk to your doctor and figure out your risk", not "you can get cervical cancer, get cervical screening". Of course that's not how it's being read or used on twitter...

Its a penis regardless of any surgery.
Surgeons who have used euphemistic language of 'sex-change' and 'neo vagina' have considerable responsibility for the consequences we now see.

Broomfondle · 12/07/2020 13:08

A) Leave people with DSDs out of this, as they have repeatedly asked you to
B) Female denotes sex not gender
C) If the 'affirmation only' approach to gender dysphoria leads to an increased risk of cancer going undetected and untreated in dysphoric people because they then can't accept their biological sex, then maybe you need to question that approach
D) Sex matters

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 13:03

99% of cervical cancers are preventable and early diagnosis makes a world of difference. Obfuscating the language, pretending and refusing the words 'women' and 'female' endangers thousands of women.

Allowing people to change their sex marker on their medical records, and not giving proper mental health support for people suffering dysphoria so they don't access the right care endangers trans men and NBs. Not biological truth.

This.

Icantreachthepretzels · 12/07/2020 13:01

I recently watched someone's 'Hot take' on JKR (bad transphobe - reject all things Harry Potter or you are complicit - if you were curious) they started by claiming that 'no one is denying sex is real' (then going straight into sex being more complicated than we ever realised so essentially denying that sex is real).

Today we are being told trans men aren't female and so saying only females get cervical cancer is wrong and exclusionary (to put it politely)

Well ... which is is? Are you denying biology or aren't you? Pick one but for god sake be consistent about it.

Also trans men and NBs not getting invited to smear tests is a side effect of being allowed to change their sex on medical records. It is not proof that some males get cervical cancer. It is proof of the harm caused by the trans ideology.

However by obscuring who gets cervical cancer and who needs screening by not using basic language in order to pander to a very sensitive and very tiny minority, they do manage to exclude women with poor or no English - who do not know the word 'cervix' in this language and so don't recognise it as applying to them. It excludes women from communities where they do not get much or anything in the way of sex education and therefore are not aware of what a cervix is or that they have one (often women from very marginalised communities who may already be vulnerable for a number of reasons). They exclude women with learning difficulties who may not be able to parse out what the vague language is trying to tell them, or women with reading difficulties having to wade through a load of jargonish bumf whilst the letters jump around in front of their eyes. And it excludes perfectly average women who just didn't pay attention in biology lessons and have forgotten the word 'cervix'.

These so called 'inclusive intersectional' allies need to take a good, hard look at just how exclusionary they are being, and how dangerous their nonsense is to a far greater number of females.

@andyoldlabour

Just had another classic tweet, saying transwomen who have had "bottom surgery" can get cervical cancer. Have any of these clowns got a basic knowledge of anatomy?
Oh God. Nothing like a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent, is there?
Collidascope · 12/07/2020 12:50

Who needs a knowledge of anatomy when words can just mean any old thing?
Woman can mean man, female can mean male, a cervix can mean penile tissue, a vagina can mean a surgically-created wound, a period can mean a bit of abdominal pain, and probably cancer can mean a bit of an itch or some discomfort if that suits the agenda.

MondayYogurt · 12/07/2020 12:50

@JemimaShore

It's creepy as fuck. Like the transwoman who tweeted JK Rowling "you should give your ovaries to me." She's not going to "give" you her ovaries ffs. It's all Envy
I am absolutely expecting for a TW to purchase the discarded breasts of a TM at some stage in the near future.

"You're not making too much sense. Trans men aren't 'female'."

I just cannot believe this sort of thing, how can an adult with even a basic education say something like this?

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 12/07/2020 12:27

@JemimaShore

So, that Bryn person from the screenshot says of transmen "they also don't get routinely invited (for cervical screening). It's a huge health inequality".

It's a huge health inequality caused directly by trans-activists insisting on medical records showing them as the gender they identify as, rather than their actual biological sex. If your GP has you recorded as a man then no, you won't get calls for cervical screening.

India Willoughy's off on one too - this is "bragging" apparently. Because every woman that has cervical cancer brags about it, just to piss transwomen off Hmm

I could have sworn that the last time I used twitter, India was against many of the TRA arguments, had reservations about GRA and was in support of JKR. I can’t seemed to find any of India’s tweets pre- July. Has there been a complete 180 and deletion of previous opinions? Now India thinks India has a cervix. Madness

@Winesalot

At what point do people have to acknowledge that they are responsible for their individual bodies and that body’s needs and be proactive. And that the transmen and NB people who deny their biology need to find some mental health care if they cannot deal with getting Pap smears.
This seems to be an issue in of a lot of health care. The balance between state responsibility and personal responsibility. Informed consent and informed dissent are only valid if people are given enough information to make those choices (which is our responsibility as the health care providers) and the opportunity and environment in which they can choose at all (state responsibility).

Then there are issues of socioeconomic impacts on health choices and people's outcomes. More poor people smoke and have bad diets, then go on to have lifestyle related health conditions and shorter lives with poorer health. Is that personal choice and therefore their fault or is it a social issue that the state should tackle?

You can argue that people have a responsibility to take care of their own health, or not... But how far do you take that?

As a HCP I swing between the two a lot of the time, because of course we make choices that effect our health, but those choices aren't made in isolation or with full facts and choice is often an illusion.

Sorry, randomly musing off topic a bit...

wellbehavedwomen · 12/07/2020 12:01

This is batshit.

Yes, some trans men will need care. That's valid and their practice should have a means of sending adjusted reminders that are sensitive to those patients. As the small minority that they are they need thought, but how on earth should that small minority - not all of whom will mind being included in the women's category for healthcare purposes - determine care standards for everyone else?

The idea that a massive public health campaign that overwhelmingly - overwhelmingly - needs to target women shouldn't be allowed to do so, because of a tiny minority, is just astonishing.

And female is a sex class. If they're banning people even for saying only females get cervical cancer, then they need a dictionary. Trans women are not female. Trans men are. I thought the claim was that 'women' was an inclusive term, and male and female would remain the sex class terms? Are we no longer allowed sex class terms at all?

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 12/07/2020 11:56

As a practice nurse currently training to take smears, I find this really interesting. It's going to come up at some point, I know we will have trans men on our books who may need smears but won't get invited and I know if they do attend there may be difficulties with taking the smear if they still have a vagina as hormones may have caused atrophy. I don't even know whether I'm allowed to ask them if they still have their vagina!
Nothing was mentioned in our training, I'm worried I'll end up getting fired for making some fuax pas at some point! But I also want to make sure all my patients get the best care I can give and don't miss out on important screening.

Winesalot · 12/07/2020 11:15

These two tweets pretty much show the polarizing effect of this statement.

The fact that there are females out there who are so traumatized by their birth sex and that this has been left untreated by mental health professionals (probably because the focus has been on transitioning as being the ‘cure’) is very sad.

Gncq · 12/07/2020 11:09

There is no name for the mucus that helps keep the vagina healthy it's called cervical discharge isnt it?

Gncq · 12/07/2020 11:07

It's infuriating how the TRAs have piled in saying all like "do you realise transmen and NB people exist, and can get cervical cancer too? Excluding us puts us at risk"...

Uhhh..... Hello? You're female so not excluded at all you numpty.

FannyCann · 12/07/2020 11:03

I do wonder if abnormal bacterial colonisation/surgical trauma plus known HPV risk could predispose you specific cancers of the neovagina as time goes on?

Quite possibly. It's not my area of specialist knowledge! And I'm sure as a pp said, it is outside the knowledge of most practice nurses and GPs.
I would think a urologist or maybe a trans health specialist would be needed.

On the subject of HPV men get various oral/throat cancers from HPV.
I suppose women could be exposed to it that way too, but I see quite a few men coming for treatment through my department, I haven't seen any women yet.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 12/07/2020 10:34

This whole debate has been really frightening and depressing me so I’ve had to leave Twitter for a while. I had a look at this hashtag and it really cheered me up. It’s really exposed that misogyny and biological denial used to silence women talking about their own bodies and safety.
My favourite is the thread by Munroe Bergdorf instructing women to not discuss their biology when talking about feminism and stating that “not all vaginas are pink”.
It’s hilarious that this male bodied person thinks they are within their rights to dictate to women about feminism, what they can and can’t discuss about their own bodies and which women are permitted to be included in their idea of feminism. Combine that with the fact that Munroe clearly doesn’t even know what a vagina is and I’m feeling very validated today. They are being exposed for what they are. Misogynistic, uneducated bullies.
