Twitter has decided that saying "Only females get cervical cancer" is hateful.

Twitter to ban tens of thousands of accounts due to this ‘hateful conduct’.

So now ... it's trending on Twitter.

Take that, Twitter.

I know Ereshkigal. The word narcissist gets overused but I've been sure for a number of years he's the real deal.

Collidascope · 12/07/2020 16:07

The language thing reminds me of all the terms we've had for people with disabilities, from "idiot" donkeys years ago to "special" which have to be thrown out every few years because they end up being used insultingly.

That's what the TRAs' language games remind me of, except they're not discarding. They're changing language which hasn't been adopted as a slur. Female, male, man and woman: none of those are slurs to your average person.

We used to be allowed "female" (despite the vast logical flaw of woman literally meaning 'adult human female' 🤨) but even that has been co-opted now.
If we all wholeheartedly accepted "cis", that too would be co-opted in no time. (I think India Willoughby already did it.) Because to them that intrinsic difference between women and trans women is so offensive and no bastardisation of language will ever be able to dress up all those differences between the two sexes.

I said it on another thread that the way they frame everything reminds me of my abusive ex. He would argue that black is white.

Yes, it's a well known trait of NPD.

But since this addition sex/gender is often coded incorrectly

Yes, definitely. But it would be no technical difficulty to record both. There's no excuse.

FannyCann · 12/07/2020 15:53

For the benefit of anyone who hasn't seen it before, with regard to the matter of changing sex markers or not, there was this sad case of a trans man with renal failure. All the relevant blood tests are sex specific and by continuing to be evaluated on the basis of expected male results his management was impacted.

There's no mention of whether there was any discussion about the impact of his gender on his health, or indeed if the medical team were even aware of his trans status.

Agree. Then they say we don't understand the science Confused

I said it on another thread that the way they frame everything reminds me of my abusive ex. He would argue that black is white. This is no different. Nothing will make them see reason so it's a waste of time engaging. They do enough themselves to shine a light on the idiocy.

Broomfondle · 12/07/2020 15:46

@Ereshkigalangcleg

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 15:42

The NHS already has options for both sex and gender to be recorded.

They're either being deliberately disingenuous or they're a bit dim. If you believe sex and gender are different this isn't a controversial statement

Exactly.

Never do understand this with TRA types. Agree that sex and gender are different. Then spend ages trying to convince people that sex IS gender. Why?! You literally just said they are different things!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 15:41

I agree. That is entirely a problem created by transactivists, and this nonsense has to stop.

BatShite · 12/07/2020 15:39

I know we will have trans men on our books who may need smears but won't get invited

I find this horrifying tbh. It absolutely shouldn't happen. This is why if anything 'gender' needs to be an ADDED option. Not for sex to be marked down falsely. Can't be too hard surely to have a transman down as 'Sex: female' Gender: Transman. Or something?!

Mind, gender is irrelevant medically tbh, except in 'misgendering' terms I guess, so could be worth having a note to make sure misgendering doesn't happen. But clearly at the min, misgendering is much much worse than missing cervical cancer due to being down as a male person Hmm

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 15:39

The amount of people on that hastag saying 'well transmen get cervical cancer so clearly men do too' who then answer 'transmen are female' with 'sex and gender are different! bigot' is astounding to me?

BatShite · 12/07/2020 15:33

Why is this ALWAYS about stuff to do with being a female. Never see a 'only males get prostate cancer' hashtag, nor people going mental at anyone using the word man for..well men.

The amount of people on that hastag saying 'well transmen get cervical cancer so clearly men do too' who then answer 'transmen are female' with 'sex and gender are different! bigot' is astounding to me? Yes, sex and gender are different things. Sex would be female. Gender can be whatever they want? So..how is it bigoted to mention sex, when even TRAs say that sex and gender are different things?! Why then go onto try and make out the two are the same or have anything to do with each other? Bonkers.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 15:14

changing sex markers on health records will result in dangerous risks being taken for the sake of fragile mental health that also needs to be addressed.

Yes, I think this is the heart of the matter.

Winesalot · 12/07/2020 15:11

On one of the comments I saw a trans man saying he was in labour and had been "read" as a male and so the fact was in labour at first had been overlooked.

I’ve seen posts recently about transman delivering a still born baby because they did not know they were pregnant. It is heartbreaking. This seems to be an issue though of changing sex markers for health.

As I said before, there does have to be a point where a person is mature enough to accept the body they are in has individual needs and that changing sex markers on health records will result in dangerous risks being taken for the sake of fragile mental health that also needs to be addressed.

Surely, treatment therefore must be considered to be failing because people cannot acknowledge the needs of their body.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 15:11

This is about being female. Even if you think TWAW and TMAM, you wouldn't have a problem with this statement unless you deny the reality of biological sex. FTM trans people will always be female. Female people who identify as non binary are still female. So only females get cervical cancer.

insideandout3 · 12/07/2020 15:06

Fools saying to doctors, "I'm going to lie to your face and with altered documentation and if you believe my lies then it's your fault for putting my life in danger."

Rubbish.

The problem is easily solved by not encouraging mentally unwell people to construct a litany of lies about their bodies.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 12/07/2020 14:42

I just had a look at that hashtag.
What I don't get is on there (and on here by the looks!) that people seem to be confusing trans women with periods?
It's nothing to do with that from what I can see.
More to do with trans men being included (as in biologically female) they of course will still get periods sometimes.

See the thing that really, really makes me angry is that men who transition to living as if they were women must know perfectly well that they are still biologically male, and have no need to be personally concerned about health issues that affect the female body

It's about highlighting the fact that trans men can have periods, not trans women.
On one of the comments I saw a trans man saying he was in labour and had been "read" as a male and so the fact was in labour at first had been overlooked.
Assuming hadn't known?
Awful Sad
Same with periods/ cancer - it's to say that trans men still have them.
Not sure why people keep confusing with trans women!

Cookies2523 · 12/07/2020 14:24

Twitter should be obliterated - it's dangerous.

Freespeecher · 12/07/2020 14:09

It was raised as a point earlier but I do wonder what the TRA stance on prostate cancer is. I'd rather have the hypocrisy of them still being tested as accepting a % of avoidable deaths in the name of 'the cause' would be terrible.

Gncq · 12/07/2020 13:59

WeeBisom exactly! I've spotted that from TRA before, in fact Mimmymum of Mermaids has done similar

Person A: "something something about females"
Mimmymum: "Stop making it all about women, what about transwomen!"

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 13:53

Haha, but if they really though that trans women were “female” they wouldn’t have even needed to post this. It shows they instinctively don’t equate trans women with female.

Yes, exactly.

My favourite tweet so far was a TRA spluttering “only females get cervical cancer? Not true, trans women get cervical cancer too and they are female!” Haha, but if they really though that trans women were “female” they wouldn’t have even needed to post this. It shows they instinctively don’t equate trans women with female.

Soontobe60 · 12/07/2020 13:39

@Broomfondle

A) Leave people with DSDs out of this, as they have repeatedly asked you to B) Female denotes sex not gender C) If the 'affirmation only' approach to gender dysphoria leads to an increased risk of cancer going undetected and untreated in dysphoric people because they then can't accept their biological sex, then maybe you need to question that approach D) Sex matters
This absolutely!!!
