Twitter has decided that saying "Only females get cervical cancer" is hateful.

Twitter to ban tens of thousands of accounts due to this ‘hateful conduct’.

So now ... it's trending on Twitter.

Take that, Twitter.

one big thing i have seen few people mention (apologies if someone has up the thread!) is people with english as a second language. At work I spoken to many people who can make conversation just fine, but do not know specific medical/anatomical terms.

Trans people know what sex they are even if they do not identify with it - ESL people would know the words 'man' and 'women' but much less likely to know 'cervix' or maybe 'prostate' or 'thyroid' unless it a medical problem they already have. Soooooo whats the answer there I guess!

BatShite · 12/07/2020 22:57

Also like hell do I believe the toted only 0.5% of transitioners detransition stuff. Seems from the same statistical school as mermaids suicide stats.

BatShite · 12/07/2020 22:56

There is a huge push to link being concerned about puberty blockers and such..with being a right wing anti feminist homophobic..etc etc. Hence the constant attempts to make out that one is like the other. They reckon say it enough, people will believe it. Similar to how they were saying that making it so hormones and such can only be given at 18, would mean young girls cannot have abortions. Or something like that. Link said TRA bollocks to actual feminist cause to pretend feminists are anti-feminist..

Winesalot · 12/07/2020 22:19

The second time this week I have seen ‘abortion regret’ used a gotcha for not discussing detransition.

Both times written by a transwoman. And both times it struck me that no female not under the influence of an ideology would say something like this. And both times, I was not surprised by the person who did use it as they have both been aggressive misogynistic activists. And both seem to believe they are better women than the rest of us.

My heart goes out to any woman who has suffered from cervical cancer, trans men included. But I'm sick of kindness and compassion being demanded of women when we're being shown nothing of the sort ourselves. Enough is enough.

My feelings exactly. Our female socialisation is taken advantage of.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 22:02

Ugh, FFS

Males have told women that their miscarriages and abortions are "cis privilege" and not been banned.

Like this vile specimen in a pregnancy group that pretended to be pregnant, and pretended to give birth to a stillborn. Any women who called him out were banned from the pregnancy and birth group Angry

There is nothing about women and our bodies and experiences that is off limits to them. Nothing.

You can't expect someone who believes in challenging female erasure to nod along and say "oh yes some males get cervical cancer" when a FTM person says that's why it's not a female health issue. It's not true.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 21:07

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 21:05

You shouldn't be penalised for expressing a scientific fact, however "insensitive". This is why we are where we are. People need to be able to speak the truth.

nellodee · 12/07/2020 21:01

Wasn't the banned poster saying this to a transman who was discussing their own experience of cervical cancer, though? I have to say, it seems extremely insensitive in that context. Still true, and still far less offensive than other, still standing, posts, but not the Spartacus moment I would choose.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 20:43

As a pp said:

The amount of people on that hastag saying 'well transmen get cervical cancer so clearly men do too' who then answer 'transmen are female' with 'sex and gender are different! bigot' is astounding to me? Yes, sex and gender are different things. Sex would be female. Gender can be whatever they want? So..how is it bigoted to mention sex, when even TRAs say that sex and gender are different things?!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 20:39

I'm gender critical

In what sense? This is kind of basic stuff, to be allowed to have words to discuss female issues.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 20:38

I mean transmen get cervical cancer.

Yes, and they are female. It was in response to a poster not being allowed to say this. It's inflammatory to call women menstruators and similar, but no one cares. Sex is a thing.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 12/07/2020 20:38

but I thought this hashtag was kind of inflammatory and meant to be so. I mean transmen get cervical cancer

I thought so too

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 20:36

You get ludicrous statements like one the other day: x % of people have endometriosis, when they mean x % of women, but have simply substituted "people" for "women" making the numbers wrong as they refer to almost double the population that can get it.

Pepper70 · 12/07/2020 20:36

I'm gender critical, but I thought this hashtag was kind of inflammatory and meant to be so. I mean transmen get cervical cancer... I'm not saying I think people should be cancelled or taken off twitter though for the hashtag

Aesopfable · 12/07/2020 20:32

@RoyalCorgi

Point-missing tweet from Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust.

I wonder if they understand that Twitter has banned someone for tweeting that only females have cervixes.

Not everyone ‘with a cervix’ will have access to the right information if they continue to use this sort of language. Women will die from cervical cancer because some wokesters are more concerned with not mentioning the fact that only women have a cervix than they are with ensuring all women (which does not include transwomen as they are men) have access to information.
LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 12/07/2020 20:18

and that changing sex markers on health records will result in dangerous risks being taken

I actually agree with that, seeing the tweet about a trans man missing he was pregnant - there should always be a way that your birth sex is still on records in cases like this.
I still think you should be able to identify as male or female, but when it comes to medical records should say.
No idea if it's not on there anymore, if it's not it should be

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 20:17

I'm sure they realise, aside from the pathetic performative wokeness, that only females have a cervix.

PumbaasCucumbas · 12/07/2020 19:41

There is more to it that not offending transmen, otherwise exclusively male medical language would be offensive too. I imagine most want to quietly live their lives.

It is a wider assault on the language used around female people and their bodies... basically anything a woman has/experiences, that a trans woman doesn’t, is offensive and must not be mentioned. (Oh and don’t forget the ultra woke people offended on the behalf of other people, who may not even be offended themselves)

SetYourselfOnFire · 12/07/2020 19:33

This time I blame the transmen. Stop forcing people to tell lies because you're in denial about being female.

This tweet.

"only 1 in 4 women with learning disabilitiesattend theircervical screeningappt"

Clear accessible language in healthcare matters. For those with LDs it is vital to make communication honest and clear.

"38% of people with a learning disability died from an avoidable cause"

This is why we should stop using language that is not communicating the meaning of the message to the largest majority of people it is aiming to inform. This is why instead of dehumanizing language relating to functionality, we use words that encapsulates the people who need to know.

For everyone that says ‘it doesn’t matter to me to be called a person who menstruates, a birthing person, a cervix haver,’ it is NOT about you and your understanding. It is about those who might not.
