From Penis News, but hopefully this link won't give them revenues:

The boycott finished at 10am today didn’t it? Mermaids and their litigious former employee have both been tweeting away this morning, but no mention of this story.

ThePurported · 29/07/2020 11:43

I think this odd silence means something, but I'm not sure what

It's the 48h boycott over Twitter's lack of action re antisemitism.

hoodathunkit · 29/07/2020 11:37

Mermaids was reportedly invited by Heads Together—the umbrella mental health initiative run by Harry, Prince William, and Kate Middleton—to a roundtable meeting with other charity representatives at Ealing YMCA earlier this month to acknowledge its work."

No time to post about this now but Heads Together is an organisation about which I have many concerns.

My computer crshed when I had multiple windows open following rabbit holes eminating from it and I lost a lot of work.

I suspect that the royal and former royal support is well intentioned but misguided.

Worthy of research IMO

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/07/2020 11:23

I've been keeping an eye on the BBC & Mermaids twitter feeds, and the Mermaids press statements section on their website, and there hasn't been a peep from them.

BBC pride tweeted a long twitter thread protesting when the removal was pointed out to them, yet they haven't updated.

And Mermaids are usually very quick to issue press statements when something happens that involves them.

I think this odd silence means something, but I'm not sure what.

"Prince Harry recently met with the CEO of Mermaids, a charity supporting transgender and gender diverse young people in the U.K., The Telegraph reports. The Duke of Sussex believes the organization, along with other youth charities, is "on the front line of mental health work in the U.K," royal correspondent Hannah Furness writes.

Mermaids was reportedly invited by Heads Together—the umbrella mental health initiative run by Harry, Prince William, and Kate Middleton—to a roundtable meeting with other charity representatives at Ealing YMCA earlier this month to acknowledge its work."

Oh, my bad I can't tell one princess from the next.

Soz.

TedsFederationRep · 28/07/2020 22:09

Xpost.
I'd be amazed if the Cambridges had ever had any connection to Mermaids. Not their style at all.

ThePurported · 28/07/2020 22:09

And the BBC Teach clip about 100 genders and "assigned at birth" is still available.

boatyardblues · 28/07/2020 22:08

I thought that tweet said Sussexes, not Cambridges?

TedsFederationRep · 28/07/2020 22:08

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, so Harry and Meghan, not William and Catherine.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 28/07/2020 21:59

Prince William and Duchess Kate have also dropped mermaids?

MrsJamin · 28/07/2020 20:46

So when will the BBC remove this piece of propaganda?
Leo: Becoming a Trans Man? I couldn't watch any more than 5 minutes as it contains SO many untruths about hormone blockers for children. It's just horrendous to think of a teenage girl watching this and being influenced by it. Sad

Clymene · 28/07/2020 12:50

@bishopgiggles - correct. I was referring to twitter's policy

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/07/2020 10:36

She'd be saying that "Votes for Women" is a transphobic slogan as many women already have the vote.

KingFredsTache · 28/07/2020 10:31

This is the lot of feminism. every feminist position that is fought for is considered to be insane, demanding, deranged, selfish, bitter and wrong - till it is won; then it is considered to be so manifestly reasonable that no one believes it was every fought for, in the teeth of violent opposition.

Exactly.

We take our right to be able to vote totally for granted. But at the time some women who were suffragettes were ostracised, they were accused of all sorts, other women thought they were awful people. I think a lot of people now think that Suffragettes were cheered on from the beginning by everyone or something? That all they did was hold up some signs saying 'well Behaved Women don't make history: girl power' or similar platitudes, and that was it, we got the vote.

I'm sure that women like Jameela Jamil for example would imagine that they would be at the front of the queue to protest about women getting a vote. I mean, votes for women, it's a no brainer right? But looking at the way that she is so eager to centre males now, even males who are rapists and sex offenders (her unfortunate 'I take them all' tweets) something tells me that it wouldn't be quite as simple as that?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/07/2020 10:29

It's an interesting coincidence that the bbc take down their recommendation at the exact time mermaids withdraw from social media.

Isn't it just.

ThePurported · 28/07/2020 10:21

we can now all say to any organisation that the BBC used to signpost to mermaids but now no longer to as its not a safe place to send kids who are confused about gender. It gives us a lot more clout

Good point, but why on earth did the BBC promote this org in the first place?

I vaguely remember reading an article about Mermaids years ago when they had just abandoned the watchful waiting approach and thinking 'that's nuts, but no one will take them seriously'. Well, the BBC did.

Gurufloof · 28/07/2020 08:38

@SenselessUbiquity
But these days we have the internet and nothing is ever truly gone from the internet. Also lots and lots of people saved the relevant stuff and way more that's only acquainted with in archives. So others may well say it wasnt so bad, but apart from we all know how bad it was, there is documented proof of just how bad it got.
Thank God the tide appears to be turning at last.

bishopgiggles · 28/07/2020 08:36

@Clymene

Oh I see, it's because of antisemitism. Allowing a load of paedophiles to post on twitter is aok, as long as they're not anti Semitic. Right o.
Just clarifying that you mean Twitter in general here, not any particular person named in this thread.

Twitter does allow "minor attracted persons" to post seemingly anything.
They also didn't act against antisemitic posts which is why some ppl are now boycotting for 48 hours.

highame · 28/07/2020 07:59

Don't get too excited.

I would think some of the complaints came from the medical establishment which would carry a lot more weight. Plus their own investigations for Newsnight.

Although I would love some sort of shit show hurtling towards 'mad, bad & dangerous to know' organisations, such as Mermaids, I'm in the 'lets just wait and see' camp.

The Beeb has been critical of TWAW but unfortunately it's been really early in the morning or late at night. I made a complaint about this last year and said that this was important to all women and not minority opinions and that they should get a grip. They didn't

CaveMum · 28/07/2020 07:52

It’s worth checking your child’s school website. I know my daughters Primary has Mermaids listed as “resources” on their LGBT policy page so I shall be contacting the safeguarding lead ASAP To ask that it be taken down (I’ve raised my concerns about the link in the past but nothing was done).

MrsJamin · 28/07/2020 06:48

I wonder if they are frustrated or relieved not to be posting on twitter for the next day or two. It's so crucial that we can now all say to any organisation that the BBC used to signpost to mermaids but now no longer to as its not a safe place to send kids who are confused about gender. It gives us a lot more clout.

blubellsarebells · 28/07/2020 01:00

This is good. Good news.
How the bbc have endorsed the absolute shit show that is mermaids for so long is beyond me, hopefully more will follow suit.
Are children in need and comic relief bbc charities? Not sure how it works.
I hope there is a big story coming soon, its got to come one day.
Do Tesco know about this? And starbucks?
We need to not let these dumb wokey bastards off the hook.
Hi Susie and Helen, sucks to be you right now hey.
Diddums.
