From Penis News, but hopefully this link won't give them revenues:

Seems most likely that they're checking things over and will re-update soon.

But I will enjoy the silence of the page, in the meantime.

Are there any reputable organisations to help people suffering dysphoria? I really do wish there were, seems like a lot of the current mess could have been avoided had there been proper support in the first place.

NeurotrashWarrior

Looks like mermaids have thrown a heck of a lot of IT and general communications technology at the website over the last year.

I assume they have had to, given the massive data leak last year. It's not as if they are short of money at present, they're swimming in the stuff with so many grants and gifts and fund raisers going they're way.

canigooutyet · 10/07/2020 22:20

Could be if the bbc are sort of a government limb...

Who knows about those rumours 🤷‍♀️

BitOfFun · 10/07/2020 22:08

YESSSS! I'm so glad that the BBC actually took the complaints seriously. I just saw this news on Twitter and gave an imaginary football-style knee slide Grin.

ThatsHowWeRowl · 10/07/2020 21:58

Yes, I can't help but feel that this is not them seeing sense, but just some sort of administrative thing?

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/07/2020 21:46

Could it be linked to the rumoured changes to the gra?

nauticant · 10/07/2020 21:42

I'm with YgritteSnow and Aesopfable.

The BBC are going to be as ahead of the curve on safeguarding over the gender identity ideology as they were on safeguarding over Savile.

canigooutyet · 10/07/2020 21:37

Could it be linked to the rumoured changes to the gra?

Siablue · 10/07/2020 21:31

I would go as far to say you can’t support trans people and their rights and support Mermaids.
I hope this is in response to the numerous complaints they have received.

Aesopfable · 10/07/2020 20:20

I suspect it will be back with fulsome apology by morning. I can’t see the BBC taking science and safeguarding seriously yet,

teawamutu · 10/07/2020 20:19

I don't know if it can be linked to an upcoming scandal at Mermaids, if the page was changed on 29 June (I did check the Wayback Machine but couldn't work it out).

I did get this from the BBC today though. Points of interest to me:

  1. It took ages to get a reply
  2. They actually admitted making a correction, as opposed to the usual sniffy brush off IME.

Sorry, a bit off topic but the level of IT and avenues for voluntary input via communication, events etc is actually disconcerting to me.

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/07/2020 20:14

So this was disconcerting when I just checked their website. It didn't do that last time:

Also, I notice they do text chat support, run by volunteers. You have to be 18 to be a volunteer. The services for "Y people" is up to age 20.

YgritteSnow · 10/07/2020 20:14

Seems to good to be true. I think they'll be back on shortly. Hope I am wrong though.

Roseburn · 10/07/2020 20:12

Is it connected to this?

canigooutyet · 10/07/2020 20:08

Oh possible change to the Science Curriculum? It's already one of the suggestions that practicals parts might need to be removed, so obviously so padding needs doing.

Biology would be a good one to increase knowledge on and well cannot say that both are truly science in the biological sense.

Of course this in just conjecture and I would shit myself if this happened haha and also kick myself for not picking numbers instead!!

Xanthangum · 10/07/2020 20:03

... or possibly something involving Mermaids themselves? Would not be a good look to be recommending them as a source of support after a piece damning them...

canigooutyet · 10/07/2020 20:03

What surprises me is that BBC weren't boycotted for promoting Science since they've taken an active role in educating the world since the outbreak. 🤣

That must have been baffling as fuck putting Science stuff online, checking etc and see biology compared to a concept.

BillBaileysBum · 10/07/2020 20:02

Ooh 😁
Come on Beeb. I’ll pay extra licence fee if you help turn this tide.

Xanthangum · 10/07/2020 20:01

*on

Xanthangum · 10/07/2020 20:01

wouldn't be surprising if they know something the rest of us don't yet.

JY going down for a long stretch

Councils instructed to remove anything recommended by Stonewall from schools

Police revealed to have spent x million of trans lobby causes?

TehBewilderness · 10/07/2020 20:00

@Smellbellina

*“We are aware of a number of editorial staff at the BBC who are unsympathetic to transgender identities and hope this is an unfortunate oversight, rather than a deliberate attempt on the part of these individuals to prevent parents and young people from accessing the support they need,” a Mermaids spokesperson said. “We call on the BBC to act swiftly to rectify the situation. We also ask the BBC to clarify its position on staff publicly sharing subjective opinion criticising its own coverage of trans issues.”*

Ha that’s a barely veiled threat.

The prick news always uses "young people" instead of children because they know exactly what would happen to them if they told the truth.
ValancyRedfern · 10/07/2020 19:54

I will never understand why people who claim to care about trans youth are against calls for Mermaids and GIDS to follow proper ethical and safeguarding procedures.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/07/2020 19:51

I'm curious about that too. Could just be a response to all the feedback they've been getting, but they are a news org, wouldn't be surprising if they know something the rest of us don't yet.
