Thank you @disappearinggirl I have been thinking about this a lot and your post has articulated my feelings about it perfectly.

SerenityNowwwww · 10/07/2020 20:51

So you will have seen the ‘tiny penis’ emoji then... 🤏🏼

McDuffy · 10/07/2020 20:46

Meanwhile elsewhere in twitter...

“Pink News reports that the #BBC has dropped Mermaids, GIRES, the LGBT Foundation & the Gender Trust from its Information & Support page on Gender Identity.”

Shit sandwich time?

highame · 10/07/2020 17:10

Employers must stamp out discrimination but a policy on language is unlikely to work where it ignores ingrained habits, and an approach that is futile will ultimately prove invasive. To discourage corporate policies on pronoun-declaration is in no respect transphobic or prejudiced. It is merely to acknowledge the limits of language and the importance of privacy.

Lifted from the piece. I just think everything has become so complicated that you will just never get people to comply, no matter how hard you try. More and more people will just take this stuff to tribunals wont they. If you include all the stuff about eliminating women from women's stuff, this is a headache for the best of us. Doomed to failure. Am I being too optimistic?

nauticant · 10/07/2020 16:04

I also meant to say I'm glad someone else here was pissed off at Evaristo using the BBC for propaganda purposes terryleather. It fair boiled my blood that did.

nauticant · 10/07/2020 15:59

I wonder what would be.

All people, well, OK, all women, to wear Mao suits and to refer to themselves as "non-transwomen".

Note for screenshotters: this is something called irony.

merrymouse · 10/07/2020 15:30

I wonder what would be.

Acceptance that you will never be satisfied if your entire sense of self depends on external affirmation.

Unfortunately most people take quite a few decades to realise this, and that is without growing up in a culture that tells you that your value does literally depend on external affirmation.

andyoldlabour · 10/07/2020 15:22

On the BBC twitter feed, the only person supporting the drag act was this:
No surprise there then.

Oxyiz · 10/07/2020 15:20

Even if every BBC member joyfully obeyed, I bet it still wouldn't be enough for the transwomen and transmen. I wonder what would be.

stumbledin · 10/07/2020 15:11

It is exactly the opposite of making everyone feel included (or whatever the phrase was). this is the same as if 2% of an organisation were all members of a particular group or cult that called each other Emporer or Emporess. Thats fine for when they are interacting with each other but totally irrelevant to the 98% who aren't part of that cult.

It just seems this is another indication that in their heart of hearts most trans know that they haven't actually changed sex and people are just being polite most of the time by not drawing attention to it. But this obsessive need to make other people collude in their beliefs indicates how insecure they are.

What next BBC presenters coming on saying here is "anyname" reading the news preferred pronouns xx, yy, zz.

It is ridiculous and on the same level as those who try and say you can identify as Black even though you are white, and other people must always acknowledge that you are Black.

PurpleHoodie · 10/07/2020 15:04

Xanthangum

All female BBC employees should list their pronouns as under/paid

PERFECT.

terryleather · 10/07/2020 14:27

I heard that piece too nauticant and was Hmm

They've been pushing CRT for a while now, well before current events, and it is offered up unquestioningly just as the genderist stuff is too.

nauticant · 10/07/2020 13:18

The BBC continually reappear on my shit list. The most recent cause was last week's A Point of View. This is a 15 minutes slot for a leading thinker/writer to comment on a current issue.

Bernardine Evaristo began her Black Lives Matter talk with "Since the lynching of George Floyd ...". The BBC I thought I knew would have not permitted the broadcast of misinformation for the purposes of political spin.

No reply to my complaint yet.

terryleather · 10/07/2020 13:11

@RedToothBrush

The BBC are going to make it easier for the license fee to be removed by doing this.

It's depressing. I'm a champion of the organisation but they are making it increasingly difficult even for the likes of me.

I used to be where you are but nah, I'm over it now and I say that as someone who's spent nearly 30 years listening to R4 every single day and still do.

Their pushing of the genderist agenda and the more recent pushing of Critical Theory has done for me.

There are still great things about the BBC, not least the World Service which I think is a huge asset, and obviously I wouldn't expect to agree with everything that they produce but I don't want to be forced to fund something that's now actively working against the interests of women and children.

SerenityNowwwww · 10/07/2020 12:22

A chubby one?

merrymouse · 10/07/2020 11:57

And what is a '+' kid?

merrymouse · 10/07/2020 11:57

I know that many people would argue that drag is an important part of gay culture, but people who can make a sophisticated argument about the place of drag in gay culture aren't getting tips on how to support LGBTQ+ kids on BBC bitesize.

merrymouse · 10/07/2020 11:52

I don't think the BBC spent 2 minutes thinking about what it means to tell children from a wide variety of backgrounds that gay=drag queen.

Collidascope · 10/07/2020 11:44

Christ, I want this to go the same way as blackface. I don't care if men wear makeup or wear dresses and flowery stuff (now of which is intrinsically feminine) but the fake breasts and high voice: that's just like painting your face black.

😱

ChattyLion · 10/07/2020 11:43

I very much support the idea of keeping a BBC that is license fee funded and advert free and can make impartial news and provide regional programming and cater to minority needs, and provide high quality kids content And educational content and all the rest of it. I absolutely do not think the BBC should be disbanded. It’s unique funding is its strength.
Why would a commercial news and features production and broadcast company with no public service ethos do a better, fairer, more politically neutral job?

Should we disband the NHS and the civil service and the rest of the public sector because they have been lobbied and are woke as fuck now? No fucking way. We should deal with institutional and regulatory capture. Not chuck away all our public institutions. We all need them. They can do better. They are ours just as much as anyone else’s. Not least because we pay for them, they would still be important even if we didn’t fund them.

McDuffy · 10/07/2020 11:37

I don't understand why I need a tv licence for just watching sky channels! Lots of defund the bbc hashtags under that tweet
