i notice john boyne said 'well said' to emmerson. good to see.

RandomGel · 04/07/2020 17:02

@Kantastic
There is just no reasoning with some. This tweet sums it up for me. I think a GSCE course on biology that than a MA would have been time better spent.

What nightmarish hellscape of a brain is that original tweet from anyway?

"Women who resent their ovaries for giving them feelings" - I know I shouldn't even be trying to unpack that twisted pretzel of projection but COME ON. How is it even possible to fit so many layers of wrong into so few words?

Oxyiz · 04/07/2020 16:51

True, but I think that overt women-hatred is scowled upon in the woke circles, and this gives them an outlet.

Helmetbymidnight · 04/07/2020 16:42

That poor Emerson guy is now enemy of the people.

Hopefully the 6k likes will help him know he is not alone - even if it must feel like it.

RedToothBrush · 04/07/2020 16:10

@Oxyiz

Do you really think they're all jealous of ovaries though? Or do you think they've just found a new socially acceptable way to hate women?
You make it sound like hating women was socially unacceptable at a previous point in recent history. Must have missed that.

Might have to buy an 'in with the wrong crowd' Tshirt... wildwomynworkshop.com/store/t-shirts/wrong-crowd-grey-feminist-t-shirt/

That's another thing, surely it's only a matter if time before 'people who menstruate' is transphobic and exclusionary, as transwomen don't/can't menstruate?

DickKerrLadies · 04/07/2020 15:39

@CoffeeTeaChocolate

Did anyone see the tweet asking how we would be able to define ourselves as “ovary havers” if we weren’t allowed to mention them Grin?

On another note, I just ventured onto cracked.com for the first time in years after following a link. Out of curiosity, I searched for JK Rowling, found the inevitable transphobia article, and was enormously relieved to see that the commenters were having none of it.

PurpleCrowbarWhereIsLangCleg · 04/07/2020 15:27

Well, if you were going to resent anyone's ovaries, JKR is probably where you'd start. They must be pure bloody titanium. She's incredible.

Highperbolay · 04/07/2020 15:26

'She who cannot be cancelled' indeed... Smile

She is now slowly uncovering the misogyny of so many in this movement to the entire world and oh my, it is glorious.

Highperbolay · 04/07/2020 15:23

If JK starts talking about brains next the poor fucker is really going to feel marginalised, haha

😂😂😂

LightenUpSummer · 04/07/2020 15:15

I think the fact that this new argument focuses on ovaries is quite telling... I've often tried to work out what's the cause of men's hatred of women, could it be a natural human instinct to bully smaller people, could it be hating our relative weakness due to hating it in themselves due to social pressure to be strong?

But another one I've thought of is: could it be a fundamental jealousy that we can create life? Like on an existential level - they see the world and notice that women create life, and so often it's men who destroy it.

If creating new life was given the respect it deserves, boys would grow up to revere it. But as it is, it feels quite awkward, like there's this miracle happening every day and we're all meant to act like it doesn't matter. This creates discomfort, which emerges as anger/hatred.

That's my theory for the day!

YgritteSnow · 04/07/2020 15:10

Ricky Gervais is "liking" tweets praising her.

Brilliant, thank you JKR for speaking up with such wit and grace. Horrible to feel some women are being browbeaten and silenced for being women. Wish someone would take on these crazies for hate speech or summit.

gamerchick · 04/07/2020 14:48

Lovely to see so many comments agreeing with and supporting JKR

Ah it is. Daily she gets attacked, it's anxiety inducing! She's bloody amazing.

Deltoids1 · 04/07/2020 14:47

I was beginning to despair this week and find the whole fight disheartening but seeing JKR at her finest again has lifted the spirits.
Off to buy a t-shirt now.

RedToothBrush · 04/07/2020 14:43

It ultimately comes back to a point I've seen reflected in what the Trans Widows say a lot and what I've experienced.

You can never win because no matter what they do you will always have ovaries and they HATE you for it. Even if you had your ovaries surgically removed to please them, they'd hate you for being able to have them removed. They will hate you for being a woman with faulty ovaries because you should still be grateful for having been born with them. They will hate you for never using your your ovaries because you have have made a conscious decision not to, which they aren't able to because you are privileged for being able to make that decision. They hate you for having the inconvience and pain of periods because of your ovaries and for having to use birth control due to your ovaries. And they hate you most for using your ovaries and having the nerve to give birth children. Giving birth is the ultimate in transphobia.

The mere existance of ovaries is transphobic.

And JK just pointed it out.

I'm so proud of Emerson.

Hes roughly my age and started mugglenet as a teenager, it's the fansite I followed and hes a genuinely really funny person who worked hard to create an online community.

Leakycauldron was always a bit batshit and had lots of problems with cliques on their fansite. I was really sad to see mugglenet turn against jkr but happy to see it wasnt E.
