Southall Black Sisters Needs Your Help To Protect Migrant Women Subject To Domestic Abuse

Just saw this campaign by the Southall Black Sisters being promoted by WPUK. It sounds extremely important and time critical and it's something everyone can get involved with, they've even provided an email template to help to contact your MP. In a nutshell it's about making sure migrant women are covered in the new DV bill. If everyone could take 5 mins to fire off an email to their MP about it that'd be ace.

Thank you for posting that, OP. It’s horrible and also shocking that immigrant women are not entitled to financial or practical (state) help.

Excellent 👍

NeedToKnow101 · 06/07/2020 10:57

I wrote to my MP, Catherine West. She wrote back to say she supports the amendments to the Bill.

Keeping everything crossed for today.

LauraMipsum · 05/07/2020 23:45

I've emailed my MP.

Excellent and very necessary campaign consisting of the support of 50 organisations, many of which I was sadly unaware of but will be taking the time to read up on each and see how I can support them.

KLAXON: MPs are voting tomorrow (Monday 6th July) on said amendments of the Domestic Abuse Bill outlined in both OP's and my links. Can we try to keep this thread bumped today please, thanks 👍

Will do NonnyMouse1337 👍

If you find anything, feel free to share it here thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter. Clearly this is an area that needs more recognition / attention.

Thank you OP, will email my MP, as a descendant of immigrants on both sides of my family I'm all for helping where I can. I will also have a read up. I want to do some research as to which external agencies are/aren't doing anything to advocate this.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 04/07/2020 22:51

thank you for sharing, i've emailed my mp

CousinKrispy · 04/07/2020 22:43

Thank you for sharing this. I will be sure to email my MP first thing tomorrow morning.

NonnyMouse1337 · 04/07/2020 18:14

MPs will have the opportunity to vote on the amendments on Monday, so it would be good to get some more emails in before then.

NonnyMouse1337 · 03/07/2020 22:59

Bump.

NonnyMouse1337 · 03/07/2020 14:36

Thanks for highlighting this campaign from SBS. It's easy to forget that migrant women don't necessarily have access to the same support structures and resources when they find themselves in difficult or abusive circumstances.
I have sent an email to my MP.

Thelnebriati · 03/07/2020 12:45

Lets see if my uber woke MP responds to this one.

BTW I just asked and none of the male members of my family have a 'to do' list of emails, crowdfunders and petitions like I do. Does anyone have any idea why this is? I'm baffled personally. /s

Cloud1921 · 03/07/2020 12:27

Emailed my MP and Liz Truss.

Let's hope in this current climate they act to protect some of the most vulnerable women in the country.

Read a few threads in the past couple of days asking what white women are doing to support our BAME sisters and this seems like something we should all be jumping on that would do just that.

ArcheryAnnie · 03/07/2020 11:47

Will email mine. He's generally reasonable, though reluctant to put his head over the parapet.

Southall Black Sisters really are amazingly fantastic.

ValancyRedfern · 03/07/2020 10:36

Done and thanks for the heads up.

reinacorriendo · 03/07/2020 10:19

Done one of my councillors I’ve had dealings with and he’s great. Also emailed Keir Starmer during pandemic and had a response from his office.

Will share this too

Thanks for the link! Overseas so no MP to write to, but will try to figure out alternate ways to help.
