Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

If womens sex based rights are protected-what will the backlash be?

I've watched with disbelief as women meeting to discuss our rights are threatened with bombs, males openly posing with barbed wire wrapped baseball bats painted in pink & blue stripes. We've all seen the 'suck my d.... ter*' comments-so much open hatred towards women. If Lizz truss does strengthen womens rights to single sex spaces, what will she unleash? There are clearly many many men looking to breakdown safeguarding of children-if this ideology is taken out of schools, they will be extremely angry. What will their next move be? What do we need to be prepared for? I know this rage is not coming from trans people but trans activists & I'm frankly a little nervous right now.

It will take something horrific to happen before the general public notices and starts to protest.

Something horrific has already happened, to a woman on a locked women only psychiatric ward and the response has been a mixture of denial and complaints that women are weaponising abuse;

UKs first LGBTQ+ parenting event to launch this September-The Modern Family Show will take place on 19th September at 8 Northumberland Avenue, London, partnered with mermaids-quell surprise! The push is well and truly on for commercialised surrogacy and we KNOW who will profit and who will lose.

This is all wrapped up in much bigger issues such as freedom of speech, cancel culture and identity politics and people are really sitting up and paying attention to those problems.

The 'victim hierarchy' in identity politics almost guaranteed a clash with the trans rights movement. Racism, for example; a discrimination that no-one can identify out of and about which most people care, is always going to be a higher priority and there are some signs that campaigners are starting to resent TRAs muscling in and deflecting attention.

Link - it's a pdf so I think you need to copy and paste into your browser, I can't make it work any other way.

surrogacyuk.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Surrogacy-in-the-UK-2nd-Report-20181230.pdf

Also includes statistics relating to expenses and multiple births. 23.8% twins, this despite the HFEA having a successful "one at a time" campaign for single embryo transfers only, which has brought the twin birth rate down from a similar mid 20's level to below 10% .
Baby buyers literally see twins as an optional extra, sort of BOGOF.

Those links have certainly opened my eyes, I wasn't aware there was such a drive towards commercialised surrogacy. It's another highly emotive, feelings-driven debate isn't it? Where saying 'no' is seen as denying the opportunity of happiness to others. And where women as the gatekeepers of this 'precious gift' will be vilified for refusing to play ball, or exploited.

I must admit I'm not sure where I stand on the surrogacy debate as it stands, I need to think about it more.

I have a previously-vocal feminist colleague who was totally against surrogacy, likening it to exploitation in sex work... until she encountered fertility problems and went through several miscarriages - and now has a baby born via a surrogate overseas.
Her circumstances changed and then so did her views. I hold nothing against her, I'm glad she's happy - but it's interesting how ardently we can argue against something until we ourselves need or want it.

FannyCann · 03/07/2020 11:08

Re: commercial surrogacy I have been seriously wondering if some dark forces in government/civil service are of the view that if feckless women are gainfully employed gestating a better class of baby to be brought up by a better class of parent that will save the government from supporting them and their tribes of feral children.
If we are to have a "breeder" class of women why don't they come out and say it? Let's have the argument, put it in an election manifesto.
The NHS in wales and Scotland now pay for surrogacy.
Research from Surrogacy UK has demands which include "public funding for surrogacy...and to pay UK surrogate expenses".

Just recently I attended (?) a webinar and someone said something about there not being enough women to service the demands for surrogacy now that gay men see it as their right. Of course it's not just gay men who want to buy babies via surrogacy. But it started with heterosexual couples, then gay couples, now single men (and more rarely single women) are in the queue. I realised there will never be enough women to provide for the demand. Not without substantial financial inducements (at least in the UK - cheaper options are available in other jurisdictions).
Hence the push for bigger payments wrapped up as expenses.
Then the tax man will demand a cut...
And there will be complaints about equality of access...so the NHS will have to fund it....

Our NHS which is practically bankrupt thanks to coronavirus.

I agree re commercial surrogacy, that is something my group of feminist friends are very concerned about, some more so than self ID etc. It's definitely something we need to organise around, somehow.
I'm not sure what will happen in terms of single sex spaces. What I do know is that women built them and we can build them again.

@ Sarah Tancredi

True

SarahTancredi · 03/07/2020 00:36

I was thinking exactly the same thing. It will take something horrific to happen before the general public notices and starts to protest. I really hope it never comes to this

Except whenever something happens to women it's their fault. What were they wearing, why was she out, wheres her mum, the alcohol she drank makes it her fault and the alcohol he drank is his excuse.

And if someone does notice they will ask "why did no one say anything" and somehow that's our fault to Angry

Apileofballyhoo · 03/07/2020 00:33

ask DH to identify as a woman and accompany me into the loos and changing rooms as protection

Without the gender identity bit it's just like the way men accompany women in some middle Eastern countries...

MingeofDeath · 03/07/2020 00:33

I believe we will lose this and it will continue until several serious attacks happen in female spaces.

FantaOra · 03/07/2020 00:29

We are just in a no man's land space between the headline leaks and the actual new guidance.
It's all got a bit silly season on steroids.

Incredible work has been done to show case the anger and insanity of the identity ideas. It's been roundly rejected.

I predict a lot more make up and underwear will be purchased and enjoyed at home and corporate budgets for ID politics training will disappear due to Covid.

TehBewilderness · 03/07/2020 00:18

It will be the children that have been drugged and surgically altered who will condemn the unethical adults.

SarahTancredi · 03/07/2020 00:06

Honestly I dont know.

I mean , when everyone, police, politicians, children's charities , you name it...have literally backed themselves into a corner and have not once faltered even when they are on camera claiming that a rapists feelings are more important than womens safety, or that its perfectly normal for children to dance in drag in the middle if the night in gay clubs while men throw money at him, and even when they have to defend staff filming themselves wanking in fetish gear at work and posting the video on line.

I struggle to believe in any way that anything can be undone and the rightful boundaries reinforced when it's going to leave the entire countries looking like the complete lying idiots that they are.

Even though they are in the wrong and all jumped in way ahead of any law change and offered up their female staff and customers on silver platter to appease the tras, well lets face it it's all at a stage now where if a woman told them there was a cliff up ahead theyd knowingly carry on driving off the edge of the earth and disappear into the ocean rather than have us even think they may have listened.

Toseland · 03/07/2020 00:02

er excuse me what is up with this thread? Why are you all theorising about losing? We are 51% and most people haven’t given this a thought yet.

Thisismytimetoshine · 02/07/2020 23:32

If self ID comes in then maybe I’ll just ask DH to identify as a woman and accompany me into the loos and changing rooms as protection
This is probably what actually would happen, whole families/friendship groups simply going in together, rendering the women's unisex.
But they won't be happy with that; they want to be in with the women, it's the whole bloody point 🤷🏻‍♀️

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 02/07/2020 23:23

I think that among younger people much will fade away - its the right on cause du jour, and fashions change. Hopefully science and research will also start to make strides as well once the mob have abated and research can be conducted again in a spirit of open enquiry.

TootaLaFruit · 02/07/2020 21:52

@CrazyToast
Do you think we might have to give up the label 'woman'?

I think they'll try and make us give it up - the same way they're trying to force lesbians to accept the label from anyone with a slick of MAC LadyDanger on their lips and a fully-loaded cockandballs beneath their fishnets.

But should we give the word up voluntarily and find something new?Never. Fight them to the ends of the earth.

I'd bet all the tea in china that if (when?) they've finally taken it, when they've finally silenced us and erased us and appropriated every part of us, including the word woman - as soon as they've got it... they won't even want it anymore.

happydappy2 · 02/07/2020 21:51

I don't think self ID will happen. but we will have trans activists deliberately using womens facilities because we cannot challenge them...with or without a GRC these XY people know they are not XX people, by using our spaces they are making them mixed sex (without our consent) I for one do not wish to encounter the flying lawyer who I know to be born male, in a ladies spa changing area.....what on earth could I do though to prevent my daughter having to change infant of them? The crazy part is that we all know a handful of trans women because they are so open in their hatred of women online....MB, SF, JP, SH, they are blatantly in womens spaces and boasting about it...at some point one of us will encounter them and I'm not sure how that will play out

LardiLaLardiLi · 02/07/2020 21:48

@happydappy2

I'm also concerned about who is pulling the strings here....organisations have been captured, institutions have been bullied into silencing women, the DFE has been caught trying to send wholly inappropriate materials into schools...I really think something bigger is at play here....I'll now take off my tin hat!
That is my biggest concern too. And who is financing it all. And to what purpose.
TheSingingKettle49 · 02/07/2020 21:39

@CrazyToast

I believe that the genie is out of the box. We can't go back to how it was before self-ID was proposed in the UK. If people are told no, now, I feel there could be sit-ins in female spaces.

Negative comment upcoming, if you don't want to read look away now...

I believe we will lose this and it will continue until several serious attacks happen in female spaces.

Either that or women will just stop using these spaces and women's spaces will just become spaces for trans people and perverts who sneak in.

This is why we’ve got to hope that Liz Truss does announce they’re tightening up the protections on same sex spaces, if she doesn’t then I think you’re quite right. However I do think this government knows the TRAs are a very small group who make a lot of noise.

I used to work for a charity that helped people who had just come out of prison and I feel certain that a lot of the men I saw would have no qualms about entering a female only space, if not to attack then to intimidate or rob women. We used to see a few clients who would come out of prison and after a week or two do something stupid to get sent back inside on purpose.

If self ID comes in then maybe I’ll just ask DH to identify as a woman and accompany me into the loos and changing rooms as protection (although I’m not to sure he’d agree as he’s a decent bloke and knows where he’s not wanted!)

truthisarevolutionaryact · 02/07/2020 21:38

On a bad day it feels hopeless. And then I read something gender critical in the Times as an example and scan the comments underneath. And there are literally hundreds of ordinary men commenting - and all of them critical / alarmed / horrified and sometimes angry. There are lots of women as well but in the men commenting I can see a huge change - they would never have said anything last year. So many people completely see the dangers, the silencing, the threats and the hypocrisy.
Alison Bailey's crowd funder raised £60,000 in less than 24 hours! The population are seeing this toxic movement very clearly and they are not happy. So I take some comfort that there is a critical mass of the silent majority who are unused to commenting on identity politics but are seeing a clear threat to children and women, women's sport and the rest and are not going to sit quietly by while it happens.

Milotic · 02/07/2020 21:34

Didnt the furries have a big kick off about forcing everyone to accept them at one point?

Itll blow over. I cant see us going like Canada.

CrazyToast · 02/07/2020 21:33

How weird it would be, if we were no longer women in the West but were women in other parts of the world!

Thelnebriati · 02/07/2020 21:33

There has already been a series of sexual assaults so severe that the victim is worried that she is now unable to have children. They took place in a locked facility under the noses of staff.

Officials deny it ever happened.
When we try to talk about it, we are accused of weaponising an attack and misrepresenting trans people.
