I'm sure there are people who still have natural blonde or red hair at 60.

However it's good to know that dyeing your hair alters your biology. I will be sure to let my roots know next time they come through.

SunsetBeetch · 30/06/2020 16:02

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at Mara and the eejits trying to back her up there. The replies from GC people are hilarious though.

MorrisZapp · 30/06/2020 15:59

Can anyone screenshot her tweet?

LoveInTheTimeOfCorona · 30/06/2020 15:55

According to Wikipedia:
Wilson is a maternal cousin of right-wing commentator Ben Shapiro. Wilson, who is outspokenly liberal, has blocked Shapiro on social media platforms. She stated, “Growing up is great because you get to choose which relatives you want to spend time with and which ones to cut out of your life without any regret.”

This just made me laugh so much.

Highperbolay · 30/06/2020 15:51

Arrrgh, someone on that thread saying that because bleach literally changes the structure of you hair and you can't wash it out, it has changed your biology! 😂😂😂

How come I have to get the roots done on my bleached hair every few weeks then you absolute fucking plonker? Honestly, I think this argument for why men can be women might actually win the award for stupidest thing I have ever seen on the Internet.

Highperbolay · 30/06/2020 15:45

Ha, I saw this the other day and thought this has to be in the top 5 dumbest tweets out there.

Does Mara Wilson think that once a woman with grey hair dyes her hair brown or red, that's it she has actually changed her biology? That she will never have to dye her hair again, won't have to dye it every three six weeks to stop the natural roots showing?

It's just so fucking thick I can't even believe she typed it out to be honest, I'm cringing for her.

@LouHotel

''I have a family member who works in biology''

Ah well say no more your credentials are clearly that of expert.

I have a member of my family who is in the field of space exploration, so come to me for useful insights into black holes and supernovas.... please don’t, space scares me
IsadoraQuagmire · 30/06/2020 15:35

Gosh, what a dimwit!

merrymouse · 30/06/2020 15:30

I don't know if people say things like this because they have so much privilege that they can't imagine being in a situation where they wouldn't have the resources to control the impact of sex, or if they are just in denial.

Particularly odd in the US where access to birth control is under threat.

BruceAndNosh · 30/06/2020 15:02

Well judging by the colour my hair is currently dyed, I'm not actually human any more

Icantreachthepretzels · 30/06/2020 15:02

As someone in the replies pointed out it's actually a brilliant analogy for the whole trans debate. Viz and to wit you can chemically alter the external appearance of your body but underneath it remains exactly the same as it always was. Oh - and the chemicals are probably causing untold damage.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 30/06/2020 15:02

Continuing with this logic, what do piercings mean on a symbolic level? What if you have them and then take them out, have you changed sex then?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/06/2020 15:01

Yes, that's the second wave of your innate transphobic kicking in.

Not only are you not kind to those poor discriminated against trans people you don't believe they have always been the sex they say they are.

That makes you a Double Bad Non Trans Woman!

MoltenLasagne · 30/06/2020 14:56

This is pretty eye opening. I always thought that people who said TWAW were being kind, but now it occurs to me that there are people who truly believe you can literally change sex, or literally be born in the wrong body.

Oliversmumsarmy · 30/06/2020 14:52

If hair dye changes your sex why bother taking hormones or having operations.

Problem solved

Soubriquet · 30/06/2020 14:49

That is terrifying that people actually believe that.

Surely if it changes you’re biology, your hair would permanently be that colour? No. It eventually changes back

Collidascope · 30/06/2020 14:47

Digressing but I hate that Twitter thing where people don't use punctuation. It feels really... self-consciously insouciant, if you know what I mean?

Mara Wilson thinks dyeing your hair proves you can change your biology...
Eveta · 30/06/2020 14:42

Christ. And these people walk amongst us. This depth of stupidity is really quite something 😮

Coyoacan · 30/06/2020 14:38

My head hurts. How the fuck can anyone believe such flat out stupidity,? Let alone think they are slam dunking some point but other when they spout it

It is hard to believe but there is some mind-blowing stupidity out there and, unfortunately, there are people who literally believe TWAW and think that medical science can change people's sex. Which wouldn't be so dangerous if unscrupulous doctors and therapists didn't play on this ignorance.

Elvesdontdomagic · 30/06/2020 14:38

She is joking...

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 30/06/2020 14:34

Continuing Mara's analogy...you can dye your hair, but it will grow back in the same color it was before, and the color you added will fade. The only permanent change to your biology is some damage to the hair shaft on the hair that was dyed.

Not sure this is really the argument for transwomen totally being women she had in mind.

Deliriumoftheendless · 30/06/2020 14:31

I liked her better when she had that massive beehive.

dayoftheclownfish · 30/06/2020 14:29

The idea that minor interventions 'change' our biology in fundamental ways, and thus also our humanity, seems to come from a highly superficial engagement with cyber-feminism.

I am sooo over the third wave, all this stuff that sounds edgy and cool but is actually just nonsense.

Siameasy · 30/06/2020 14:27

Complete nonsense.
Glad I don’t do Twitter.
