There's a lot of very pro JK Rowling sentiment here.
My children - especially my son - is very anti . . . and says what she has done is horrendous.
Please can someone help and explain the reason for her being so defended on here?
Thanks!

@SapphosRock I really can't get my head around some of your reasoning in your 'open letter to Rowling'?

Lifelong gender dysphoria is the only reason why people transition? How many years did Rowling struggle with her feelings, and how many years would she have had to have struggled to earn the right to transition? How long is lifelong, if teens and preteens are acknowledged as being desperate to transition?

Not only that, but isn't it offensive to the trans community to assign their urges to transition to a diagnosis of gender dysphoria?

Are you genuinely saying that there are absolutely no trans people who have started their journey after feeling ousted by their own gender community? How is that supposed to make some trans people feel about their experiences?

Lastly, to highlight an admission of a mental illness like OCD and then go on to deny it is at all relevant is hugely counterintuitive to the points you are making, not to mention offensive. How is somebody's struggle with mental health not relevant to their feelings about a matter, if they themselves deem it to be? If a trans person was describing their experiences of transexuality during their account of their battles with OCD, would you tell them that being trans is irrelevant?

How exactly are you fighting for a better attitude towards trans people, by displaying exactly the same narrow minded mentality that you blame gender critical people for supposedly having?

CHILDREN ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT ADULTS DO TO THEM.

Datun · 01/07/2020 00:39

Keira Bell was asked what could adults have said to her to make her reconsider or what could they say to other girls in her position.

And she said 'nothing'.

She was absolutely determined and 'knew behind doubt' it was what she wanted.

Datun · 01/07/2020 00:36

Thanks old crone.

I missed it entirely

@SapphosRock What you are describing is how it should be. Children should never be given drugs that change their bodies forever until all other options have been explored.

But that isn’t what is happening. Doctors are affirming statements of gender dysphoria. Parents are terrified by reading the - shown to be false - statistics about suicide and are agreeing. And the children - they are children in pain and are effectively being told “it’s ok - we can take away your pain - your body is wrong but we can fix it” and so they jump at the chance of being fixed.

I am another woman who - like Jo Rowling - really struggled with my body during the teenagers years. I was a tomboy. Until about the age of 11 I liked my body. I could run and jump and climb. I was strong and fast and powerful. And then I hit puberty. And things grew on my chest that got in the way of me running and jumping and climbing. Periods were horrific for me. Just unbearable. And I started realising the ways that being female might limit me in the future. At that point I started saying that I wished I was a boy. Quite reasonable really. Being a 13 year old girl is horrific. I find it confusing that some girls are fine with it. Anyway I said On a number of occasions that I wished I was a boy and my parents.... did absolutely nothing. Said I was a girl and that I could still be a famous footballer / doctor / miner / whatever I wanted to be at that second in time as a girl.

We had a couple of very rocky years but by 15 I was fine. Liked being a girl. Rather liked my body. Got on with my life. Studied a male dominated subject. Do a male dominated job. (Only female in team of 15.) played a male dominated sport. But I am a woman. I like being a woman. I am a mother. I love being a mother.

What would happen if I was 13 year old me now? I don’t know. I hope nothing. “Watch and wait” would be best. But maybe I would slip through the net. I’m bloody clever. I would have found out what to say to get what I wanted. And at 13 I just wanted it all to stop. To stay as pre-pubescent me. And then I would not be able to have my children.

[quote Datun]In the Telegraph this evening.

Transgender ideology is leaving a “corrosive impact" on society, according to a new study calling for the scrapping of gender recognition reforms.

The report by the Civitas think tank accuses public institutions of being captivated by an "ideology of transgenderism" that is unable to defend the sex-based rights of women.

There was a thread about this a few days ago.

It's like Harryhausen's dragon teeth.

@Quickerthanavicar

Slander is said not written! Night, night hun!
‘hun’ or ‘hon’ is a trans in-group insult for transwomen who do not pass as natal females - you don’t want to banned from MN for being a transphobe, do you? Best not to use it, if you aren’t trans...

@prolefeed

It’s brilliant how they read shite on twitter and rush over here thinking they are soooooooo original and clever. Bless.
I don't think I've ever seen a single original comment from any of them, to be honest.

Twitter breeds goaders like battery hens

Quickerthanavicar · 30/06/2020 23:38

Datun · 30/06/2020 23:37

Do they have to accept responsibility for the mermaids jelly babies nonsense that they've been taught in school?

Do they have to accept responsibility for the actions of the doctors who prescribed the puberty blockers and hormones?

Doctors who are recommended, by the jelly baby teachers, incidentally.

BigBadVoodooHat · 30/06/2020 23:37

Wonder why she picked Robert Galbraith as a pen name?

Stop it. You’re embarrassing yourself.

prolefeed · 30/06/2020 23:36

Wow! So quick to try and slander a children’s author!

Quickerthanavicar · 30/06/2020 23:26

Wow! How rude.

Datun · 30/06/2020 23:23

It still makes me laugh. The idea of a children's author, who has set up charities for deprived children and donated to a rape refuge and has trans and lesbian mates, would pick a name of some unutterably obscure bloke who was in favour of conversion therapy. So she can what? Secretly laugh people who don't know?

🤣🤣🤣

OldCrone · 30/06/2020 23:22

They have to accept some responsibility for what has happened to them.

Do they have to accept responsibility for the mermaids jelly babies nonsense that they've been taught in school?

Do they have to accept responsibility for the actions of the doctors who prescribed the puberty blockers and hormones?

It is the job of adults to protect children from things that may do them harm, even when children demand those things.

What is your opinion of the negligent behaviour of those adults who are teaching children about the jelly baby gender spectrum and encouraging them to 'think about their gender' and pick a gender?

What is your opinion of the negligent behaviour of those doctors who have been prescribing these hormonal treatments to adolescents, knowing that the eventual outcome of doing this is unknown, and telling the children that it's all going to be good?

Read this, and tell me that this child should 'accept responsibility for what has happened to them'.

Fortunately you don't have to wonder. Because at least seven years ago she was interviewed and asked about the name and she described the reasons behind it

Exactly

I really think a lot of this is grasping at straws

God, this is tedious. You are what, the 50th person this week to ask that silly question.

PurpleCrowbarWhereIsLangCleg · 30/06/2020 23:14

Sapphos that just doesn't add up.

We've seen evidence from the Tavistock of girls being put on blockers after a cursory couple of appointments. We know that that dreadful quack Webberley was (& probably still is) giving out cross sex hormones to children like sweets.

So we know that you really don't need to be terribly persistent, insistent & consistent to find yourself exactly where Keira Bell is now.

& a lot of us also know that our own gender dysphoria was intense & overwhelming & went on for months or years. For some of us it never quite went away.

JKR is talking about herself, & about us. Not your trans mates.
