There's a lot of very pro JK Rowling sentiment here.
My children - especially my son - is very anti . . . and says what she has done is horrendous.
Please can someone help and explain the reason for her being so defended on here?
Thanks!

Outside of witch-hunts, reasonable people normally use specific evidence to explain why someone is “horrendous”. Then those defending her will do likewise.

Can you see how starting with a bald assertion that someone is “horrendous”, then asking for a defence, suggests the psychology of the witch-hunt?

To allege that someone has "done" something horrendous, is a very serious matter. I hope you can help your son to be part of a world where we critically consider evidence rather than assume positions of implacable hostility towards other people based on a crowd consensus.

... Unpopular opinion I know...

At least you admit it's just an opinion.

bottleofbeer · 02/07/2020 09:39

Btw I couldn't care less and will call you whichever pronoun you prefer nor am I saying transgenderism is a delusion. I'm saying it's bloody ridiculous to go along with the delusion that sex doesn't matter.

But there IS a possibility that for some, it's vertain brain regions going a bit wonky so it shouldn't be firmly accepted without question that a person is in the wrong body. To do so is dangerous and damaging.

bottleofbeer · 02/07/2020 09:34

Take the lettuce leaf from the anorexic, after all if we dont accept their delusions that they are fat, we are phobic of their identity as a fat person. Accept their version of themselves because to do anything else is offensive. Agree they are fat but not only that, act along with the delusion that their poor mental health has created and talk them out of eating if they waver in the ridiculous notion that they need to eat, even if they are at a minute to 12 on their own personal doomsday clock

Tell the person with body dysmorphia that they are indeed ugly so you dont offend their belief that they are certainly ugly. Dont offer treatment to help overcome their misconceptions. Do the right thing and offer them a paper bag.

I identify as a black man. WHOAAAAA haven't you followed the BLM campaign? You cannot understand being black because you have never experienced it! Racist! Oh, would you prefer I called you Edward? It absolutely doesn't matter that you've absolutely no experience of what it is to be male because you've never experienced it.

Oops! Can't say that! Can't talk about biological sex.

Offer a teen psychological help for gender dysphoria? No, they dont need it. They just need to have their entire body permanently changed. No going back!

ALL of these conditions mentioned originate neurologically in the same brain area. ALL involved in perception of self and others. We agree that eating disorders and body dysmorphia are false and delusional.

It's bloody terrifying that teenagers are transitioning. They are at an age where they are working out who they are, they're flooded with hormones and so many stresses. How many times did you HATE your life as a teenager? I hate being me! But now they get this inkling that they're in the wrong body and it's fully supported to the point they're being given synthetic hormones and worse, actual surgery. Higher function reasoning takes place in a brain area which isn't fully developed until 25 years old but lob bits off, stick bits on, take bits out of people much younger than this? Scary.

What I've just said is a hundred times more TERF than anything JKR has said. I just need to point out some of the seriously weird thinking and hypocrisy around this issue.

To claim that sex doesn't exist or it's trans phobic to point out an irrefutable fact is going along with a delusion.

If you start a thread, you are usually keen to respod to posts on it. The OP has not come back as far as I can see. This tells me the post was not in good faith.

DrDavidBanner · 01/07/2020 20:31

@Feathered I think its really rude to start a thread asking a question and then not respond to any of the answers given to you. What's the point in starting a conversation if you don't want to participate?

JuanNil · 01/07/2020 19:36

Reading that transcript genuinely reminded me of the 'food' and 'love' episodes of Don't Hug Me I'm Scared. If you don't know what that is, don't look for it, trust me. But yes, it's very cult like. I feel sad that such a complex and important topic is being represented by people who's mantra is 'don't think too hard about it'. It doesn't stop the subject of gender identity being complicated. It just suggests to those who have opposing questions that you will never get a rational answer, because the whole thing is built on a foundation of whataboutery. Surely trans and gender dysphoric people deserve better spokespeople than that? I say this putting aside all of my opinions about gender criticism. People who trust foundations such as Mermaids to guide them through their journeys have no idea who's hands they're putting their faith into.

That jelly baby gender identity spectrum is used in Mermaids brainwashing training sessions.

A gender critical man recorded one such training session.

According to this, it’s used by mermaids.
They probably won’t let you see it unless you apply for one of their diversity training courses

ChurchOfWokeApostate · 01/07/2020 18:37

JuanNil

I google ‘Gender spectrum’ and found the image in seconds.
I followed the link through to this site

JuanNil · 01/07/2020 18:34

Ah okay, so one is Barbie and twelve is GI Joe. I still can't find this picture with respect to how it relates to being transgender. Just on its own about where you'd place yourself on a ridiculous scale of femininity to masculinity. Very odd.

JuanNil · 01/07/2020 18:28

As horrendous as that picture looks, I'd appreciate seeing a clearer version that hasn't been cropped in that way. I don't think we're getting the full picture there. A cursory search on google didn't help me to find that same picture. Are you able to link to a better one @TwoTribes ?

Look at the shapes that represent the females (no. 1 - 4) compared to the males (no. 9 - 12).

Why does the 'most' female have a tiny waist and big bust? Is that what makes you female? Why does she become less female if she is fatter?

The males of course are all the same because there's only one way to be male Hmm

They are going into schools telling feminine males that they must be female. I cannot for one moment understand why the government has no problem with this.

If you had to make a drawing to illustrate misogyny, this is what it would look like. And they are teaching it in primary schools.

When will people wake up.

It's going to be a huge scandal when it all comes out.

I doubt there are many woman who haven't been affected by the onslaught of catcalling, ogling, whistling, harrassment, groping etc, by men and boys, from the moment they start to develop breasts. It is ubiquitous and disgusting. No wonder girls struggle so much. Add in autism, social media, peer pressure and now all this awful recent ideology being taught in school, the pressure being put on girls to lower their boundaries and appease males. No wonder so many of them are distressed by their developing bodies.
I will never forget how enraged and sad I felt the first time my dd was groped on the bus. Sad

Good = hips.

emilybrontescorsett · 01/07/2020 06:51

Just to add, I would h spoilt have taken any drugs to stop me going through puberty. I hated having periods, having breasts, good etc. Would I have taken drugs to stop this? absolutely!
On top of this it would have stopped unwanted male attention which was horrific, not to mention helping me become the advanraged, priviliged sex, what's not to like?
It's rather like asking a black person: given the choice, would you rather be white?

They have to accept some responsibility for what has happened to them.

Do the vulnerable autistic children who are made to believe their trans because they like toys associated with the opposite sex have to take some responsibility too?
What about the equally vulnerable children in foster care who are taken in by the trans ideology and are encouraged by social workers who have drunk the kool aid, are they responsible too?
What about the teenage girl who went to meet a football player to get her shirt signed and was sexually assaulted by him, should she take some of the responsibility for what happened? After all she contacted him on facebook, she met up with him - that's being persistent, right?
Or is it the complete and total responsibility of the ADULT in the situation to do the right thing?
Children are never ever responsible in any way for the abuse they suffer, and it's disgusting for you to suggest they are.

TehBewilderness · 01/07/2020 01:28

Given clear evidence that dysphoria is a common experience among children during puberty it seems pointless to continue to insist that it is unique to a few transgender people.

JanMeyer · 01/07/2020 01:21

In my eyes she ruined it by appropriating the experience of being transgender and dysphoric.

Oh the irony. And you think you haven't been illogical on this thread. Well you've just provided a fucking brilliant example of it. How do you think women feel about having their experiences appropriated by men then? Or is it only trans people who are allowed to complain about such things?
Oh yeah, and you aren't the judge of who is and isn't genuinely dysphoric. It's extremely common in autistic girls. I know, i was one of them. Until my teens i was convinced i was meant to be a boy and that was why i didn't "fit in" with other girls at school. Then i found out i was autistic and everything made sense. Like many other posters here I'm grateful that I'm not a teenager now, because whilst I'm still not happy being a woman, i am eternally glad i wasn't set on a path of unnecessary drugs and mutilation in the form of needless surgeries. All in the pursuit of what is a big fucking lie.
Who are you to deny her experiences, or ours for that matter?

prolefeed · 01/07/2020 01:03

Well this is exactly it. Teenagers aren’t stupid. I know someone who worked out what date her lmp should be to allow her to have an abortion under the 12 week limit despite being further along (and how to appear Gillick competent so that she didn’t require parental consent). There are myriad sites providing specific guidance as to what to say to qualify for treatment. Not least ‘tell them you are suicidal’. That’s not limited to teenagers though - another friend with extremely serious mh issues knows that if she turns up and tells them she is suicidal they will check her in for a few days and she can take time out. We chat about it.
Any trans forum will give you very specific advice on what to say when you finally get to your Charing Cross appointment to get what you want.
Teenagers are no different. Everyone can manipulate the system to get what they want. The increased danger with teenagers is that puberty renders it extremely unlikely that you have capacity to make lifelong decisions - and so you shouldn’t be able to.
