Why r/GenderCritical was banned by Reddit

Hi! TRA here! Thought I'd take a quick breather from all the crowing, high-fiving, etc. to throw a lifeline to any actual open-minded critical thinkers wondering why Reddit banned r/gendercritical. Basically, you have 2 options when it comes to what to believe:

  1. It's a true conspiracy: silicon valley, hollywood & the media are in the thrall of the well-funded TransAgenda, the need for woke points, child-groomers, women-haters, MRAs, etc. etc.
  1. r/GenderCritical was hateful - if you want evidence then go to r/GenderCynical which existed to harvest said hatefulness. Read their strictly enforced rules about hate speech, misogyny, anti-feminism, pile-ons, doxxing, etc. (NB: abbreviating "trans exclusionary radical feminist" is not considered hate speech on this subreddit) and then sort their posts by "top" and "all time" and judge for yourself.

The trans men, trans women and non-binary people of Reddit do not hate women and do not tolerate abuse. Have a better day. x

It was banned because the group/s organising against it could see how exponentially the space was growing.

Not because of anything the women of r/GC were doing - that credit goes to the increasingly unstable and unhinged behaviour of transactivists. The treatment of JKR for daring to insinuate biology is real has been waking up thousands of people, especially women.

It's pretty obvious the sub was on target for maybe 100k subs by year end.

This is why it had to go and they pretty much admit it in their own discussions.

Women talking to each other is dangerous and inconvenient to men. Women have been suppressed by men for a millennia on this basis.

ItsLateHumpty said that she isn't making a point, merely an observation that the moderation on this thread has already been different to the moderation on most threads as per The Talk Guidelines.

And it is indeed an interesting observation.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 30/06/2020 23:31

and in that time deleted posts from FWR regulars but left standing the replies quoting those deleted posts that were made by other bear posters

Why have I got a "beware" bear lol, why not just ask MN instead of bat signals as my guess is as good as yours why quotes are left standing if posts are taken down, they're usually deleted too along with a deleted as quotes deleted post| message

7Days · 30/06/2020 23:27

But we have.
We know r/gendercritical.
It was a good resource, in the main.

Though you're right. People say all sort of shit on the internet.

You're best off reading for yourself, skimming over the posts that have nothing to back them up, and taking each argument on its merits.
For that reason I'd dismiss some things I'd see on there. But others would inspire me to delve deeper.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 30/06/2020 23:24

@notasportymum

men silencing women. no change there then.
Just this.
MadBadDaddy · 30/06/2020 23:20

@Quillink

Fear women all you like OP Smile You won't shut us up.

Never been on Reddit btw.

Does my post honestly read like I'm trying to shut anyone up, let alone you lot?

My suggestion was to see for yourself, instead of blindly trusting anyone else's opinion. There are over 700,000 communities on Reddit, and anyone can start one. Getting upset with Reddit generally because some communities are truly awful (and BTW you'd have to look for those explicitly) is not unlike getting upset with the Royal Mail because nazis post letters. x

Interesting 🤔

MN closed this thread to ‘look behind the scenes’ and in that time deleted posts from FWR regulars but left standing the replies quoting those deleted posts that were made by other Bear posters.

And as the content is still there, I fail to see where the comments have broken our special guidelines.

Also interesting is the other thread talked about here that OP admits to starting as a troll is also still standing.

I don’t have any point - it’s just an interesting observation.

‘You have two options what to believe’

Really? Only two? Seems like you’re setting up a false binary there. How narrow-minded and bigoted of you. Surely the truth exists more on, say, a spectrum?

ChinWhiskers · 30/06/2020 03:32

Reddit is disgisting. They allow /r rape and misogyny but dare say anything about men and you're shut down. They have pedo /r's and still left to go on.

mellymoop · 30/06/2020 03:27

I guess the delightful list of subReddits with a whole range of anti-women, 'rapey' stuff is totes ok and not at all bigoted. Because it's obviously fine by Reddit.

So we women MUST be wrong about wanting to protect ourselves. And horrible bigots.

Or maybe.... There's the stench of sexism and misogyny in the air again.

It’s cute that you’re acting as if you are concerned for the spiritual welfare of the women here (gosh, they might have the wrong opinion about gender critical! What a nice chap you are to come and warn them!) when we all know you would have no problem documenting the “hate” you find here. And by “hate” we all know that what really gets you seething is the thought of women disagreeing with you.

Have you met some of those white male supremacist tech d00dz from silicon valley, or watched a Hollywood movie full of white male supremacists lately, or seen the white male supremacists on the nightly news and the TV shows?
Srsly! #1 is kinda obvious, innit?
Believe it or not there are white male supremacists who actually think white males are the majority population in the world and so they are entitled to dictate to the rest of us.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/06/2020 01:48

No one here is surprised.

I'm only surprised it existed on there for so long.

TehBewilderness · 30/06/2020 01:46

Reddit has no problem with woman hatred. Rape torture and abuse of women is some of their most popular subs.
It is women speaking for themselves that reddit finds hateful.
No one here is surprised.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 30/06/2020 01:42

People went to war and defeated Nazis. People climb mountains, explore remote forests and discover lost cities. Ordinary people have dug survivors out of earthquakes, protected homes from bushfires and saved their friends from sharks. Some people get up every morning and care for children or old people or go to jobs they hate, but do it anyway.

But some keyboard warriors got an internet forum closed and they’re celebrating their achievements?

Here, let me wave a damp sock at you in case the ticker tape parades are late.

OvaHere · 30/06/2020 01:33

Well Reddit is full of those things. When they ban 65k feminist women but keep multiple subs celebrating rape, abuse and grooming of children it's difficult to see them as anything else than MRAs on steroids.

Perhaps you could come back here when you have a solid plan to tackle those things. Seeing as you allegedly don't hate women.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/06/2020 01:30

We can't have enough of that!

@LillianBland

Oh that’s fab. I’m looking forward to all those lovely GC women joining us. The more the merrier, I say. MNHQ will be very pleased to see their numbers of subscribers increase.

Yes I'm struggling to see the downside from a MN perspective.

Equally all these lovely new user threads have been brilliant in demonstrating the issues at hand regarding women's rights and the pernicious attitudes and motivations of hardcore trans activists.

VortexofBloggery · 30/06/2020 01:03

So many fab new joiners here and on spinster. Easier to organise with so many fired up women in the one place. Weird business model for reddit and hardly anything to crow about especially on FWR which is reaping the benefits. Justine will be pleased. Own goal? Didn't think it through? Nevermind.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/06/2020 00:58

At least that kicked off some ok discussion despite the OP - I doubt this will.
