Why r/GenderCritical was banned by Reddit

Hi! TRA here! Thought I'd take a quick breather from all the crowing, high-fiving, etc. to throw a lifeline to any actual open-minded critical thinkers wondering why Reddit banned r/gendercritical. Basically, you have 2 options when it comes to what to believe:

  1. It's a true conspiracy: silicon valley, hollywood & the media are in the thrall of the well-funded TransAgenda, the need for woke points, child-groomers, women-haters, MRAs, etc. etc.
  1. r/GenderCritical was hateful - if you want evidence then go to r/GenderCynical which existed to harvest said hatefulness. Read their strictly enforced rules about hate speech, misogyny, anti-feminism, pile-ons, doxxing, etc. (NB: abbreviating "trans exclusionary radical feminist" is not considered hate speech on this subreddit) and then sort their posts by "top" and "all time" and judge for yourself.

The trans men, trans women and non-binary people of Reddit do not hate women and do not tolerate abuse. Have a better day. x

Given how many posts are deleted on this specific thread for no good reason that I can see, it seems like someone's rather invested in telling people to shut up.

Oooh thanks!

I'm sick and tired of all of this.

Here, let me wave a damp sock at you in case the ticker tape parades are late.

I liked gendercritical. But I can see why it threatened TRAs. The peak trans threads in particular were very educational.

I think, the "educate yourself" retort to people asking questions led a lot of people to that sub. That's how I found it anyway. And obviously that's not the right kind of education, so it had to go.

I miss gendertrender more tbh.

Smegmaballet · 01/07/2020 07:23

Unless it's full of women sending rape threats like the 'ladies' of Twitter. Or asking dissenters to wax their balls or suck their dicks.

I don't actually care what it says.

Do they say 'suck my dick' lots in the gender critical reddit?

Pointing out facts to fantasist isn't hate.

AskDan · 01/07/2020 07:21

Standupstraight lol true.

I find the use of emojis and xxx in TRAs communications passive aggressive and very very funny.

I love a passive aggressive email and even I have something to learn from TRA communication styles. Probably the only thing I have learnt from these folk.

StandUpStraight · 01/07/2020 07:08

PMSL at “have a better day x”. Some TRA on Twitter told me to “have an accountable evening”. Where do they get this stuff?

I found the GenderCritical subreddit really interesting. A lot of younger women in the US posted their experiences there - women who were living the consequences of the ideology that 'twaw'.

Many of them seem to have moved to saidit now saidit.net/s/GenderCritical/.

They seem more fired up than ever. Lots of delurkers subscribing too.

Quillink · 01/07/2020 06:21

Does my post honestly read like I'm trying to shut anyone up, let alone you lot?

Um:

@TBHno

Hi *@MadBadDaddy*

Do you believe that it's possible for humans to change their sex?

Interesting question. Why don't you start a thread on it somewhere?

@TwangBadge

"Basically, you have 2 options when it comes to what to believe"

So here we go again with women being told what to believe, what to think, how to behave. We mustn't go upsetting anybody now because we gasp disagree! Heavens forbid we have wrongthink! Talk about a repeat of Nazi Germany.

We absolutely will not bow to this hivemind. There are plenty more options what we can and will believe, and you have no place giving out your orders.

um...the two options were pretty much "take it at face value" (it was hateful) or "don't" (hidden agenda) and finished up with "judge for yourself"

I also added 'basically' so by all means feel free to twist yourself into knots of creative thinking. Were the Gestapo this considerate?

I suspect it is directly related to behavior.

I'm delighted to note that they have moved to saidit.net/s/GenderCritical/ and are busy rebuilding. Spread the word.

LillianBland · 01/07/2020 00:50

thought *us bigots

LillianBland · 01/07/2020 00:49

I don’t care that they’ve shut down that reddit thread. It just brings attention to their behaviour and proves to the ‘kind’ women how much they actually hate females. Those ‘kind’ women, who previously thought is bigots and didn’t believe that men were trying to silence us, will have got a wake up call. Move over my lovely feminist friends and make room for those joining us on top of the peak.

So they’ve closed that group, split the women up, who will go on to other groups/sites/amongst friends and explain what has happened. They haven’t shut females up, they’ve just spread them through other sites and groups, where they can educate others. Own goal achieved. Well done.Grin

@TehBewilderness

On reddit it is almost always a matter of stumbling across something and being gobsmacked that it is legal.
Oh, yes - eyebrows shot up to my hairline in many occasions. I have found some useful obscure tech answers there but even that can slide off into strangeness.

@LemonadeAndDaisyChains

Yeah I remember seeing a thread years ago in the stalker sub (the one set up to stalk, harrass and doxx)

See, WTF would anyone set up a sub to stalk and doxx people for, and why would anyone willingly visit it, how do you get to know about its existence in the first place?!
Rhetorical question, I really don't want to know, I'd rather stay in blissful ignorance!

Some men need very few excuses to stalk and harass women, especially those women that find support from other women. Sure, we see males on here regularly, trying to put women ‘in their place’.

Yeah I remember seeing a thread years ago in the stalker sub (the one set up to stalk, harrass and doxx) about how actually they read GC and found themselves agreeing with some of the stuff there and that's why it was so dangerous, because people would go there and see that it wasn't actually a hate sub but a place for women to talk freely and might actually stay. That's what they were threatened by, not the actual content.
