I cannot be the only one to think the new opt-out organ donation scheme will result in a lot of wombs being stolen without permission, if this comes to pass?

@Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel

Who cares? You'll be dead. Hmm

Would you be happy with a pedophile/murderer/rapist having bits of your body?

No? Well other people have standards of who they'd like their bits going to and who not.

I care. I’m all for organ donation in theory but I’m absolutely NOT for donating my reproductive organs and allowing this emperor’s new clothes charade to go even further than it already has. No fucking way

This is how I feel.

I'll be dead. I literally have no use for any of my body then. I'm also not the judge of who lives and dies so if my heart might keep them alive,

Full disclosure though, during our IVF treatment we'd opted to have any 'left over' embryos donated to science. I was happy to donate them to an infertile couple but husband wasn't as keen on that option

Soubriquet · 29/06/2020 15:37

I did select some, and reproductive organs aren’t on there at all

JonHammIsMyJamm · 29/06/2020 15:35

Sorry that should be ‘all’ or ‘some’ option. My phone autocorrected to something.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 29/06/2020 15:34

If you opt in you can choose to donate certain organs only. There is an ‘all’ or something option on the link I posted. You basically tick the ones you want to donate. Make sure your family are aware of your wishes. Hopefully this sci-fi nightmare won’t be realised in our lifetime but if it is, tell your loved ones so that they know you do not want your reproductive organs donated. Make sure they know.

Soubriquet · 29/06/2020 15:30

I don’t want to opt out completely...I feel like that isn’t fair to people who genuinely need a transplant and not one for a fetish.

But how can I stay opt in without donating things I really don’t want donating.

However, it does say they will need permission from next of kin so surely, that should provide me with some protection?

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 29/06/2020 15:23

Thanks for the link @JonHammIsMyJamm

I've opted out.

Soubriquet · 29/06/2020 15:20

Jesus.... I would not want my foetus or embryo donated. I would want them buried with me

Ah. Thank you.

That’s awful that the nhs link doesn’t include the reproductive tissues as something to opt out of

I guess I will just have to make sure my next of kin is fully aware of what they can and can’t donate

Have you got a specific link? I’ll donate anything but my eggs and womb.

Wolfgirrl · 29/06/2020 15:08

@soubriquet

If you click the link by PP, reproductive organs are a rare transplant - your next of kin would need to give permission.

So they definitely 'can' be harvested.

Soubriquet · 29/06/2020 15:05

See, I’ve gone on that nhs link, and I’ve clicked donating some, but womb doesn’t come on there to select or not.

Does that mean it isn’t included in organ donation?

ShinyFootball · 29/06/2020 15:01

Well it's about sex and position in hierarchy and also for women whether single or not.

Why do we need to know this about (usually) strangers. People you meet irl it's first name in my life.

ShinyFootball · 29/06/2020 15:00

Interesting that the options for women in titles grow and grow while men are still just Mr.

Having a single title for women was a feminist aim but yet again we're going in the other direction while for chaps it stays unchanged and uncomplicated.

I'd get rid of titles altogether what even is the point of them.

Wolfgirrl · 29/06/2020 15:00

@DreadPirateLuna of course, I dont think this is likely to come to fruition for the next 10 years at least, but I dont see what is to lose from encouraging the government to legislate against it in advance. With all other womens rights issues we have waiting for what seemed like an impossibility to become a reality before taking action. Then it is harder to do as the TRAs have the scent of blood in their nostrils.

Wolfgirrl · 29/06/2020 14:58

The next of kin thing could be open to abuse of process if this comes to pass. I can imagine a section of the TRAs haranguing terminally ill women.

DreadPirateLuna · 29/06/2020 14:58

Womb transplants for males are in the realm of science fiction at this stage. Some biological women have had womb transplants but their chances of a successful pregnancy are still slim despite having all the other "plumbing" and the right hormones.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 29/06/2020 14:58

I've completed the register by opting to donate some specific organs, not all. I've excluded tissue. Plus I've made sure that my next of kin know that any to do with my reproductive system is off limits for donation.

Crockodoodle · 29/06/2020 14:57

Next of kin make ALL the decisions. It is completely irrelevant opting in or out, you are at the mercy of your next of kin.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 29/06/2020 14:57

Or non binary or whatever the fuck

JonHammIsMyJamm · 29/06/2020 14:56

Isn’t ‘Mx’ for the gender-neutrals?

Hmm
Wolfgirrl · 29/06/2020 14:53

@SandysMam Flowers of course, I'm very sorry I will word things more carefully in future to make sure it doesn't come across like I'm encouraging people to opt out of donation full stop. I have a condition which means I may need a transplant in future, and I agree it is essential to get it right.

Stop sticking Xs on the ends of words, TRAs. It looks silly and nobody knows how to pronounce it.
