Do you think its credible to suggest that a man whose out to sexually assault women would go to bother of transitioning or claiming to identify as a woman to get at them in a bathroom say

In a world where men in the UK have trained as teachers and police officers and so on specifically in order to gain access to vulnerable women and children I don't think saying 'I'm a woman' is a particular barrier.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/06/2020 19:14

I meant men and women are equally academically and politically capable?

Yes, so are people of different races, but presumably you wouldn't have an issue with projects and programmes to improve things for BAME people, in a structurally racist society?

Structural sexism, in a similar way, is an issue which holds back women and girls. Is this really the first time you've ever considered this, or are you some sort of denialist men's rights activist? (of either sex, there are plenty of women who put men's rights first)

Transitioning? Of course not.

The problem with self ID is that there is no ability to challenge any male bodied person in women’s spaces (not just toilets). None. Do I think some men will take advantage of that? It doesn’t matter what I think. It’s already happened.

FloralBunting · 29/06/2020 19:10

I called him thick because like most MRAs, he can't get his head around the idea that the man Linehan is not our great leader. And I'll expend no energy whatsoever arguing with a bloke that women matter and have rights. Others can do so if they wish. I don't care what sexist blokes think. Cheers.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/06/2020 19:10

We ARE a cult Benny10. We cover ourselves in menstrual blood and howl at the moon. Linehan is our King and we all worship him with rolling pins and chant lines from Father Ted like "Feck" and "Drink" JK Rowling is our Queen and we sleep with a copy of her good books under our pillows.

RHOBHfan · 29/06/2020 19:09

Because a man who feels like a woman and wishes to identify as one is often vulnerable in the way a woman is to sexual assault.

@Benny10 how?

Benny10 · 29/06/2020 19:09

@Ereshkigalangcleg

Men and women are equal in these disciplines

No, they are not. What do you think scholarships for girls and all women shortlists are for, exactly? You appear to think there is no need for feminism?

I meant men and women are equally academically and politically capable?
Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/06/2020 19:09

You are a transphobe though. Just like us. We're all just degrees of transphobic, as you'll learn if you say that thing about women's sports to some TRAs.

JemimaShore · 29/06/2020 19:09

Benny, have you looked at the stats for men and women in STEM recently? Or politics? They are not equal. Women have been given scholarships and all-women shortlists in these areas precisely to go some way to redress that imbalance.

When a political party appoints a women's officer, do you really think it's fair to have a born male taking the role? When Pip Bunce won the Women in Business award, do you really think that's fair to women when he/she only presents as a woman for 2 days a week, or whatever?

Benny10 · 29/06/2020 19:07

@Highperbolay

OK Jemima yes totally agree on the sports thing, it's clear that trans women have an unfair advantage their and its unfair for them to take a womans place in professional sport.

Oh, so they do take women's places then?

Also, you obviously don't think that transwomen are actually women then if they shouldn't compete in, ahem, women's sports? Transphobe!!!

Awk now I was hoping to actually get an insight into your pov but your just being dense. There's no balance to the way you discuss it, this isn't as much of a threat to your way of life as you seem to think, in fact your life won't be affected at all most likely.
PuppyLove2000 · 29/06/2020 19:05

@Benny10

What's the issue with calling trans women women? And why is Stephen King a bastard for thinking they should be called women? And what's with the weird cult like following of JK Rowling? Is it purely because she has an issue with calling trans women women? And finally are you all big Graham Linehan fans in here too? Smile

Benny10 · 29/06/2020 19:05

@Highperbolay

(Trans women aren't biologically the same as women obviously and it's not like they'll take anyone's place in any way, the argument that it puts women in danger is ridiculous so what is the problem really? I'd like to know)

Tell that to the women who got ousted out of the FT Top 100 Women in Business List so that Pips Bunce could get a place. Or the woman who could have had Lily Madigan's Labour 'Women's Officer' position.

Why do you think that allowing males into female spaces won't be a problem?

Because a man who feels like a woman and wishes to identify as one is often vulnerable in the way a woman is to sexual assault. If someone is transitioning it's because they feel like a woman. The online commentary on this issue has overlooked why they are doing it, not to hurt anyone but to live the way they want to live.

Do you think its credible to suggest that a man whose out to sexually assault women would go to bother of transitioning or claiming to identify as a woman to get at them in a bathroom say? I think it's a bit weak as a reason against letting trans people live the way they want to, if a sexual predator wants to get at a woman they can unfortunately, they don't need social acceptance to enter a women's bathroom to do it.

Highperbolay · 29/06/2020 19:05

But politics, scholarships? Men and women are equal in these disciplines and if they are looking to be treated as women isn't it the case that it's two women competing for these things on a level playing field?

Why do you think that there is a FT Top 100 Champions of Women in Business list in the first place? Is it because women are just oh so well represented in business already?

Do you also disagree with awards, positions, organisations for black and ethnic minority people as well? Would it be OK if I, as a white person, took a position which was created to try and give BAME people more representation because 'we are equal anyway'?

JemimaShore · 29/06/2020 19:03

The thing is, Benny, if someone calls you thick for your point of view that TWAW, (against all factual reality) then you may feel a bit "ouch" but no real harm done. Stephen King

But when women say transwomen are NOT women - you can be cancelled - they've tried their best to cancel JK Rowling but failed - hopefully she's just too big to cancel. But saying this has made into a heretical statement. Hate speech. You could get a visit from the police in the UK, you could be disciplined or lose your job. You will abused and told to choke on dick. You may be banned from forums. You may even be punched in the face, as Maria MacLachan was.

Transwomen are not women - and I can say that factual statement here - because MN allows it, and I'm anonymous. But I could get banned from Twitter and many other forums for saying it, and I could be disciplined or lose my job irl - TRAs love to report women to their employers.

You will not be banned from here for saying 'TWAW' - you may be argued with, but no real harm done.

FloralBunting · 29/06/2020 19:02

Please, feel free to read the readily available work of the many women here delving into these issues. You don't need to be spoon fed.

Smallsteps88 · 29/06/2020 19:02

Time to do some homework bennyboy.

@Benny10 what's your view on women losing out to Rachel McKinnon or Laurel Hubbard in their respective sports? Or women who have lost out on college sports scholarships in America because a male got it instead?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/06/2020 18:58

what is the problem really? I'd like to know

You obviously haven't read many FWR threads, Benny. There's plenty to get stuck into!

@Benny10

This thread is strange in its conformity. Sk is a bastard for tweeting something that makes people who are often very vulnerable feel good about themselves, I saw someone say the shit babies are trying to make JK Rowling deleting her tweet "into something" I'd say it's plain that she wanted to make it something by going to the bother of removing her praise of him over 4 words.

I doubt he's very invested in this war he's just a fair minded man who doesn't believe anyone should be ostracised. JK Rowling deleting her tweet on the other hand indicates an aggression in her view that trans women are NOT to be called women which to me seem to make her far less empathetic and likeable person

@Smallsteps88

People with similar opinions on a topic gravitate towards a shared space that allows them to discuss it and it’s a “strange conformity”? Interesting. And what is it called when men agree on things?
Indeed. Is 'TWAW no debate' strange conformity too? If not, why not?
