“I’m not arguing for the privileged, but the powerless.”
Oh my goddess
Perfection

KettlePolly · 28/06/2020 20:57

All I'm getting from a majority of the critical responses is a heady whiff of testosterone.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 28/06/2020 20:57

She's fucking amazing. Ovaries of steel. What a woman.

If I had the level of F U money that JK has I would in no way be this classy. Probably better for society that shes rich rather than me.
Me too. Proper LOL at that.

Siablue · 28/06/2020 20:51

I have just sent Kier Starmer a howler! I have turned into the sort of person who sends strongly worded letters. 🤣

Gingerkittykat · 28/06/2020 20:47

@JemimaShore

Stephen King has indeed retweeted her! I think he'd prove too big to cancel too....
I wonder if he will have people screaming at him that he is a bitch and a cunt and telling him to suck girldick?
TheTrickyWitch · 28/06/2020 20:43

What a wonderful woman JKR is.

I am also feeling glad that one of those 3000 emails was mine and so pleased that our support has helped and inspired her too. Flowers

@littlbrowndog

FGM
I’ve seen the replies she gets. It’s absolutely sickening. I’ve had to leave Twitter because I don’t have the stomach for the blatant woman hating.
Mollyollydolly · 28/06/2020 20:39

J K Rowling just liked my tweet. I am so excited. This is ridiculous I'm 57 ..

JK Rowling responds to pathetic Labour MP
PapsofJura · 28/06/2020 20:33

I thought it was an absolutely fantastic response and once again a sharp reminder of my own fear of openly agreeing with her as I nearly liked her tweet from my own very identifiable Twitter account and fearful of the repercussions.

Sadly I have had to hide behind my husband who has an anonymous account and can like without fear of real life reprisals.

What kind of sad world do we now exist in.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 28/06/2020 20:31

I feel very proud to be one of the 3000.

It’ll be interesting to see what Keir Starmer does. He must realise what a powerful (and rich!) backer J.K. Rowling could be. She wasn’t a fan of Corbyn so has been unenthusiastic of the Labour Party for the last few years. But it is her obvious political home.

But that would take guts. And I’m not sure Starmer is a Gryffindor!

McDuffy · 28/06/2020 20:30

She's just marvellous. Everything is so measured and thoughtful.
She may also have inspired me to do some feminist reading... I've not read much for years (after a high maintenance boyfriend who didn't like me reading as it meant less attention for him Hmm and so I got out of the habit). Is Dworkin a bit much for beginners?

Haveastock · 28/06/2020 20:16

JKR - if you’re reading this.

I just want to thank you dragging me out of a pit of despair. Yesterday all my family tried to cheer me up but I was just so depressed and down about it all (16 years old son and a daughter just short of her 13th birthday) I’ve veered between anger, incredulity, disappointment and exhaustion. I despair at the people who just don’t seem to be reading or listening to your words properly. I was genuinely worried for you since we last heard from you. Wondering about how it must feel to know that you have put your head above the parapet exposing yourself to all kinds of accusations and falsehoods. The total distortion of your thoughts, ideas, experiences.

I was hoping you were safely behind a Sheltering Charm of all our good wishes, impervious to the howling onslaught of the circling Dementors. It was so GOOD to read your words on Twitter today. Just sorry that you’ve had to come out once again to defend yourself against such clueless misogyny.

‘Thanks‘ seems such a feeble word sometimes Smile

HumphreyCobblers · 28/06/2020 20:11

So so pleased to hear Stephen King retweeted her.

Lottapianos · 28/06/2020 20:01

'To both groups, female trauma is white noise, an irrelevance or else exaggerated or invented'

So perfect

Helmetbymidnight · 28/06/2020 19:54

the editor of the tribune is still backing the mp 'against the hate'

Highperbolay · 28/06/2020 19:52

I can literally imagine Owen Jones reading her tweets with that furrowed brow face he makes, completely baffled as to why she hasn't yet asked for forgiveness and promised to 'do better' and is actually continuing to stand up for women, and puzzling over how he is going to condemn her totally measured point of view without making himself look like a complete bellend.

Its a headscratcher Owen isn't it!

TheWayOfTheWorld · 28/06/2020 19:50

@ahumanfemale

She's brilliant.

I'm posting this response because it's a beaut and deserves some more eyes rolling at it. 😉

There was more eye rolling when that person was asked to point out exactly what was transphobic and did the usual dodging - can't say it all in 280 characters (well, do it across two or more tweets then), not wasting their time and this was a cracker: it would be like asking a Holocaust survivor to read extracts of Mein Kampf ConfusedHmm
Fallingirl · 28/06/2020 19:49

I want “so-called leftists” on a teeshirt.

Alsohuman · 28/06/2020 19:43

Exactly that @Highperbolay. And the stronger she gets, the more the impotent anger grows. I swear one of them will spontaneously combust soon.

JiggeryWokery · 28/06/2020 19:41

Stephen King has retweeted her - another uncancellable author.

Highperbolay · 28/06/2020 19:40

I just love that she is now showing that she is not going to back down. That TRAs can hurl the most vile abuse at her, that the people whose careers she made can stand against her, that celebrities/journalists/MPs can call her a transphobe or a bigot or whatever they think will work to shut her up... And she is not going to back down.

This is a loud and clear message - she is standing up for women and there ain't nothing they can do about it!
