The day is early though and he might be retracting and grovelling by teatime.

I'd be tempted to put money on it, tbh.

Siablue · 25/06/2020 12:08

If his so called friends cancel him it will be a lesson learned in life.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/06/2020 12:01

I don’t think we should get him cancelled for this. He is awful but this is a good cause and will be useful.

I agree. It's not us who are most likely to cancel him.

AskDan · 25/06/2020 11:59

I think cancel culture is awful..so I say crack on Jolyon.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 25/06/2020 11:51

This is a much-needed campaign.

I'm sure that neither JM nor the vipers# see this as anything more than an essential coalition of those who recognise that rhetoric and intentions are not enough and Something Must Be Done.

#I will know that I am wrong when Good Law and MumsnetHQ launch a joint merchandising line with viper-patterned kimonos. But no baseball bats, no matter how naicely carved or engraved.

Read the title 4 times, clicked on thread, still confused, read title again. Ah! I read ‘ Jolyon Maugham 'proud to be a working mum’

I thought he’d transitioned!

Michelleoftheresistance · 25/06/2020 11:40

I don’t think anyone here is trying to “cancel” him; more just boggling

Quite. The hypocrisy and compartmentalising are amazing.

But whatever.

R0wantrees · 25/06/2020 11:32

@wellbehavedwomen

In fairness, that's a really good cause. He may be utterly clueless on what is happening to women's rights re. erosion of the legal status of 'woman', but it's still good he's doing this.
I doubt Jo Maugham has considered the single mothers who are transwidows.

A number of women share their experiences here:

Dyrne · 25/06/2020 11:30

I don’t think anyone here is trying to “cancel” him; more just boggling at why he suddenly has the highest praise for a website he has previously deemed the ultimate evil...

OvaHere · 25/06/2020 11:09

Ooh cynical MrsWednesday

I like it. Grin

MrsWednesdayteatime · 25/06/2020 11:08

Is this how you get bad news stories sunk in Google searches?

Jolyon+Mumsnet would bring up Boxing Day Foxgate and plenty of misogyny

If you partner with Mumsnet and gets lots of positive internet noise does that sink the bad stuff and raise the good search results on a Google search? I'm not sure how it works but remember reading about a company that specialised in cleaning up people's internet profile and part of their method was driving down the bad stories with new good stories.

If he has no ulterior motives then "hats off" to him

NorthernIrishFeminist · 25/06/2020 10:37

He's a creep but crack on he might learn something

Thelnebriati · 25/06/2020 10:36

Wait - didnt he criticize a barrister recently for the type of organisations they worked for, and suggest that Wrong Think is in some way infectious?

OldeMagick · 25/06/2020 10:32

I don't generally agree with pile-ons, but can't think of anyone more deserving.

Deanetta · 25/06/2020 10:31

Ah yes nauticant good point.. that will teach me not to rush to judgement!

OvaHere · 25/06/2020 10:27

@OldeMagick

Well, that didn't take long...
Sadly he's blocked the 1000's of women and men who might defend his stance on this so I guess he's on his own.
nauticant · 25/06/2020 10:24

That caught me out too Deanetta until I looked at other tweets from that account. Irony usually fails on the Internet. I've lost count of how many times I've learned this then forgotten it.

Already one response saying 'how could you work with such TERFs?' Just let them get on with it. Every time they open their mouths they do our job for us.

SadlyMissTaken · 25/06/2020 10:07

I agree this is a good cause but I don't trust him not to use any influence this generates for him in a destructive way. He can bat back any accusations of misogyny by pointing to this and put himself forward as a spokesperson for mothers. I am of a cynical mindset though...

Lumene · 25/06/2020 10:01

I don’t see a problem with this tbh. I agree with JM on some issues/causes not on others. So what?

Siablue · 25/06/2020 09:58

I don’t think we should get him cancelled for this. He is awful but this is a good cause and will be useful.

It is fine to agree with some people on some things but not on others. The fact that he fails to grasp this doesn’t mean we can’t.

nauticant · 25/06/2020 09:54

My prediction is there'll be some grumbling but overall he will be left alone and free to put another gold star in his Big Book of Campaigning.

endofthelinefinally · 25/06/2020 09:51

Why am I thinking Fox in the Henhouse?

OvaHere · 25/06/2020 09:51

I guess Jolyon prides himself on compartmentalising. I'm not sure Twitter will see it that way and he might end up with a pile on from the TRAs.

I don't like him one little bit however it's a good thing if he is able to display some nuance on this.

The day is early though and he might be retracting and grovelling by teatime.
