The ever entertaining TRA power couple Fox and Owl were apparently represented by the same agents as the wonderful Ms Rowling.

They, along with some bloke called Drew Davies, have severed ties because the agents refused to issue a public statement slagging off their biggest client.

Being bastions of professionalism they left by telling the guardian.

@Gncq

Lol.

As far as I remember Fox and Owl wrote gender indoctrination pamphlets for school children.
I seriously hope no one else is mad enough to take them on.

No idea who the others are. Maybe other pseudonyms for Fox and Owl?

So they really made a fortune for the agency then, unlike JKR who is nothing but a drain on resources. Oh, wait Grin

@Binterested

Too twit too whoooo?

littlbrowndog · 22/06/2020 18:11

It is a good thread. 🤣🤣

Tigerty · 22/06/2020 18:10

“Freedom of speech can only be upheld if the structural inequalities that hinder equal opportunities for underrepresented groups are challenged and changed”

Translation: Freedom of speech only exists after you do as we tell you. Grin

Hahaha I’ve a right good giggle reading this thread.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/06/2020 18:09

Some of my favourite ever MN threads revolve around Fox and Owl. They are a beautiful representation of everything I find objectionable about this movement.

WhatTiggersDoBest · 22/06/2020 18:06

@TheShoesa I didn't know that Fox and Owl identifed as writers, I thought they were activists.
I just spat my tea.

This whole debacle is living proof of something I've been wondering for a while, regarding, "if all your friends were jumping off a cliff, would you do it, too?"
Apparently the answer is, yes, the TRAs would.

AnyOldPrion · 22/06/2020 18:05

Not just you Millenium. Like everything Else, publishing goes through trends and I suspect those who can all these things will be starting to see the tide going out on this one...

Datun · 22/06/2020 18:05

The video was daft.

A self affirming, immature, one-dimensional litany of self praise.

They truly don't see it. They don't see what other people see.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 22/06/2020 18:03

You lot are mean.
It was a brave and stunning move.

Tootletum · 22/06/2020 18:03

Sadly I think the time will come when we will all be sent to re-education camps for thought crimes. And denounced for wrong think by our children.

[quote Enderthedragon]For anyone who hasn't hard of Fox and Owl, there is a thread here about their book 'The Teens Trans Survival Guide', where amongst other weird stuff, they tell teenagers that doctors checking a baby's genitals to correctly sex it when it is born is 'gross'. The Amazon links have been removed from the thread, so it's difficult to see the extracts from the book but they are quoted and it's a good discussion.

This means when we're born, medical professionals take a look at our genitals (gross, we know!), classify us as male or female and assign us the gender 'boy' or 'girl' according to what they see down below'

What are they, 12?

WhatTiggersDoBest · 22/06/2020 18:01

@Clymene

That's the trailer for a film which mysteriously apparently earned quite a few awards. I say mysteriously because I've seen better films made my sixth formers.

Bahahahahaha 5000 views. I'm dying at the idea that this person thinks they're important enough to leverage their fame this way. I have jam jars more famous than that. And OMG the woman-hating in that video. God the narcissism and aggression in that video towards natal women.
Enderthedragon · 22/06/2020 17:59

Sorry, its The Trans Teens Survival Guide.

Am I alone in thinking it rather likely the literary agents are 🥂 celebrating their loss?

CodenameVillanelle · 22/06/2020 17:54

@JemimaShore

LOVE these publishers. That's the second onslaught by TRA types they faced and not crumbled.

Although it's not much of a choice is it? JK Rowling or, er, Fox and Owl...

JKRowling : 2
TRAs: 0

The other was hachette
transdimensional · 22/06/2020 17:53

Apart from the good, principled arguments against re-education, there's also a very sound practical reason for the literary agency not wanting its staff to be re-educated... which is that it would have been practically encouraging a Hachette-style revolt, which is probably what Fox and Owl were hoping for.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 22/06/2020 17:53

He he he. That is all.

Tigerty · 22/06/2020 17:52

“Being bastions of professionalism they left by telling the guardian.“

I snort-giggled at that Grin

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 22/06/2020 17:52

Fox and Owl?
Who they?

I'd never heard of them before now, so I suppose they can count that as a win.

TheShoesa · 22/06/2020 17:50

'We are writing as a group of writers' starts the Medium article, which has three names at the bottom.
A group sounds more impressive than 'a few' or 'a couple of writers, plus one extra' though I suppose.
I didn't know that Fox and Owl identifed as writers, I thought they were activists.

TedsFederationRep · 22/06/2020 17:48

Well, thank goodness that the recent upsurge in JKR's back catalogue means that there will be no noticeable impact on Hachette's profits caused by the flouncy exit of....sorry, what are their names again?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 22/06/2020 17:47

Them earn 1% of what JK Rowling earns! You are being far too generous. They couldn't even dream of earning that amount

I was going to say, isn't that rather a generous estimate? If one day in the utopian future they managed to pull in 0.0001% of what her least successful book did they'd be besides themselves with excitement.

Datun · 22/06/2020 17:46

The word "demanding" makes us sound so unreasonable

What else is it, if you say if you don't do this we'll leave?

It would be so much more genuine to just bloody leave.

Datun · 22/06/2020 17:44

The co-author of the Trans Teen Survival Guide suggested the literary agency should conduct staff training with the group All About Trans

Whose bright idea was to call it All About Trans? Still, you certainly can't fault them for misrepresentation.
