FIVE DEMANDS NOT ONE LESS

I hesitate before posting as I'm not entirely sure if this is a wind up. But here is an anonymous website with dates and times of forthcoming protest marches, and five 'demands' (not one less!) that look, er, utterly reasonable... Hmm

5 KEY DEMANDS:

  1. There will be granted no new ability for anyone to discriminate on the basis of Gender Identity and Expression/Gender Transition. This is our key demand.
  1. The clause in the proposed amendment prohibiting conversion therapy must go ahead and must provide a ban on conversion therapy for both sexual orientations and gender expression/transition. This must include Non-Binary people.
  1. The conservative government must release a statement apologising for the way they have treated transgender and non-binary people and also must apologise for even suggesting such an amendment be implemented.
  1. Elizabeth Truss must either be removed or step down as Minister for Women and Equalities and must never assume the role for the rest of her life.
  1. A government department for the advancement of the rights and quality of life of transgender and non-binary people specifically must be created and consulted. We also must not lose our representation in the Government Equalities Office.

5 demands, not one less.

The ultra friendly at demos Ada Cable made them cancel Durham on Saturday. The three groupies /followers that were going dropped it.

Yeah, when you can't even define the word woman, man, gender identity, trans, homosexual, sexual orientation or sex, resulting in rapists being put in female prisons, there is a veritable chasm between you and moral high ground.

Michelleoftheresistance · 21/06/2020 13:51

Seriously its none of your business.

My life, my access to health care, to hospital wards, to public toilets, to political representation - and on and on and on - none of my business. And definitely not something I should be investing energy in either.

conversion therapy amendment

doctors only have to conduct affirmative method
and if say 'no' that's conversion therapy

Xanthangum · 21/06/2020 13:04

@WoollyHeadedMammoth

I wondered about that 'conversion therapy amendment' stuff as well.

On the one hand, I think the reference comes from the Sunday Times front page leak stuff from last week (www.itv.com/news/2020-06-13/boris-johnson-drops-plans-to-make-gender-change-easier/)

But they are keen to make sure it's not just gay but also trans-conversion that are both outlawed.

And then they say that the Tories "must apologise for even suggesting such an amendment be implemented" which is nonsensical. Unless... they think the Tories are saying that GIDS, Mermaids etc are pushing gay conversion ( ..'transing away the gay' suggestions made by anonymous Tavi employees on the Newsnight doc recently).

I'm going back to my first thought that this is satire tbh.

And the 'freedom' is to oppress females having removed their rights and protections in law.

Which is obviously a lovely, inclusive thing to do. Confused

Yes absolutely support their right to peacefully protest their right to remove female rights and protections from 51% of the population to benefit themselves.

WoollyHeadedMammoth · 21/06/2020 12:30

"The clause in the proposed amendment prohibiting conversion therapy... "

"The conservative government must ... apologise for even suggesting such an amendment be implemented."

Can anyone link to the text of this "proposed amendment" from a UK Government source (or, as a second preference, from any source)? The linked website does not. Thanks.

Xanthangum · 21/06/2020 12:06

"This is our key demand"

Well actually we have five key demands.

But this one is key-key.

1. There will be granted no new ability for anyone to discriminate on the basis of Gender Identity and Expression/Gender Transition. This is our key demand.

I mean that's easy isn't it? It's not a new ability, just using the existing one that we're asking. No amendment to law required. In fact they're the ones asking for amendments. They are very confused kiddies.

I read this like the teens I heard in Uxbridge once going on about 'The Feds' - too much American TV, and they can't seem too differentiate between UK and American laws/governance.

Melroses · 21/06/2020 11:30

I'm not sure they meant "stuck" down either!

TedsFederationRep · 21/06/2020 11:27

We will stand together at the crossroads of our freedom and demand this amendment be stuck down!

I'm fairly sure they meant to say "threshold" instead.

"Crossroads" makes it look as though they have no clue which direction they should go in.

Soontobe60 · 21/06/2020 11:23

Also, their name, Transgenderresistance, makes them sound like a group who is resisting transgender.
Someone didn't think that one through.

Soontobe60 · 21/06/2020 11:19

@MindTheMinotaur

You're all really mean. Some teen has tried hard with that. Grin

I much preferred the declaration where they wanted to operate on each other and everyone had to be freed from prison. Anyone remember that?

It does sound like it's been written collaboratively in the local youth club, doesn't it?
Thinkingabout1t · 21/06/2020 11:13

We will stand together at the crossroads of our freedom and demand this amendment be stuck down!

Good rousing rhetoric there. Pity no one bothered to proof read it. I now have a happy vision of MNers determinedly glueing Liz Truss’s amendment firmly into the annals of the Law ....

Thinkingabout1t · 21/06/2020 11:11

Weird. It seems to be a real site, even though it reads like a parody - proof that you cannot satirise these people!
I notice they had a protest march planned for yesterday, 20 June, in Durham, but I didn’t (at a quick look) find any mention of it in the news. Lots more protests planned through the summer, including London Hyde Park on 4 July.

Abirdandaworm sorry for the clunky link to reddit, it’s available elsewhere and the Daily Mail has an article on this which covers Jess Bradle. If you haven’t come across them that’s a story you will find interesting.

It’s the Edinburgh branch for Action for Trans Health. It is a Man-ifesto not a declaration but what a glorious thing it is. It deserves to be shared far and wide.

I think that's a fabulous list of demands and I would love to see it as widely communicated and publicised as possible. The more it reaches, the better.

Even the tone of it is the sound of the stamping of tiny little feet just perfect.

Grin

Is anyone is on Twitter, could they please send it to the Baroness? I'm sure she would want to know more about their representative in the supposedly impartial GEO.

Aesopfable · 21/06/2020 10:55

The civil servants must be impartial (ha!) not representing any particular cause.

Floisme · 21/06/2020 10:51

We also must not lose our representation in the Government Equalities Office
Very good point Aesop - I missed that. I was mostly laughing at first but that's not funny.
