Bunbury's guide to community disruptors part 5

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

Remember our monitors would like to silence us by fair means or foul.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3691023-Bunburys-guide-to-community-disruptors-part-4

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links can be found in the ‘Break it Down for me’ and ‘It never happens’ threads but in essence FermatsTheorem recommended “that in the absence of a block/hide poster button, I suggest the following strategy (given that you're talking to the lurkers).

Do not name check the sealion. Instead, respond to a depersonalised paraphrase:

"It is sometimes erroneously suggested that blah. Blah is wrong for the following reasons (short and pithy). If you need more information re. debunking blah, here's a link."

Then (this next step is important to combat derailment) go back up thread to the last useful contribution to the discussion, make sure you do name check that contributor, and pick up the discussion from that point.”

Go well Witches Gin

Dances you were only 3 minutes off. that was a very fine estimate and it was probably because someone decided it was still too hot for coffee and got straight into work.

prolefeed · 27/06/2020 06:18

Oh you are GOOD at this! I checked the time lol.
Yes. Jerusalem artichoke is also banned. There is a reason I cancelled the farm box.

LadybirdsAreNotBirds · 27/06/2020 06:18

Should have put a bet on the time.

If they just ban 4 people it should be able to stay up, shame the whole thing will be nuked.

Dances · 27/06/2020 06:16

3 minutes out! Not bad!

Winesalot · 27/06/2020 06:15

6.15!!

LadybirdsAreNotBirds · 27/06/2020 06:09

If celeriac gives you wind make sure you avoid Jerusalem artichoke.

Was like living with a family of hovercrafts for days 😊

ItsLateHumpty · 27/06/2020 06:02

I bagsie not being on clean up duties!

I dunno though - maybe if we offer them onion fried celeriac smothered in anchovies they’ll leave sooner? 🤢

God another twenty minutes? Shock

Dances · 27/06/2020 05:51

To be fair, it will help speed the falling back to sleep

I'm reckoning 6.18am for deletion..

prolefeed · 27/06/2020 05:47

Celeriac gives me terrible wind.
Fennel nope.
I adore coriander though.
At what point is it polite for visitors to puke and fall asleep? Dealing with nasty drunks when you are sober is tedious.

LadybirdsAreNotBirds · 27/06/2020 05:42

Fennel is despicable.

As are celeriac aniseed fennel and all their cousins ....

Apparently some of us have better taste buds and more able to taste bitterness. Makes coriander horrible too.

It's genetic . Am sure it's an evolutionary benefit as our ancestors were the ones to tell the family to spit out bitter poisonous berries.

You celeriac enjoyers can thank us haters 😀

Dances · 27/06/2020 05:33

Fennel is nice in sausages though

LadybirdsAreNotBirds · 27/06/2020 05:12

The rock does look like a mystery dried out unidentifiable vegetable from the back of the fridge. I'd still rather eat that than celeriac in any form.

That or fennel are added to every meal that fancies itself as a bit upmarket. Can't wait for it to be out of fashion.

Now back to smashing the patriarchy by lurking....

Mooncupdotcom · 26/06/2020 21:56

After a hot and grumpy day, finding a discussion of celeriac in FWR has cheered me right up. Thanks peeps.

PumbaasCucumbas · 26/06/2020 19:57

Thanks Vicky Grin

Yum VickyEadie

Cue my regular moan about having a dairy free husband.
I much prefer a mixture of yoghurt and mayonnaise, it makes it lighter but I don't like his soya yoghurt.

VickyEadieofThigh · 26/06/2020 17:51

Celeriac remoulade is traditionally made with home-made mayonnaise, but I'm far too common to do that, so I used Hellman's - lower fat version is fine, in my experience. You can find a range of variations - Mary Berry puts sugar (absolutely not!) in hers and some versions use merely Dijon mustard, others a combination of Dijon and wholegrain.

My version is: 2/3 mayo to 1/3 yoghurt, lemon juice, wholegrain mustard in these quantities: 6 tbsp good quality mayonnaise, 3 tbsp good yoghurt; 1 dessertspoon (adjust to your own taste) wholegrain mustard (beware - the Co-op's own is very hot), juice of one lemon. Mix together until smooth, add a bit of salt and pepper.

1 celeriac weighing about 700g - peel and coarsely grate or - as the French do - cut into slim matchsticks. Mix in with sauce and it's done.

I taste my sauce as I go along and adjust quantities. It keeps a couplf of days in the fridge - good with cold meats, especially charcuterie and great with smoked fish.

PumbaasCucumbas · 26/06/2020 17:38

Can we have the tartiflette/remoulade recipes to improve the next tedious plopper thread? Grin

WhereYouLeftIt · 26/06/2020 17:19

🚩Ooh!

picklemewalnuts · 26/06/2020 17:13

I'm growing celeriac. Where does that place me?!

For clarity- I have some growing, whether that eventually leads to possessing a celeriac or two is uncertain. I've grown more pests than vegetables so far this year.

Pertella · 26/06/2020 16:45

I make a bastardised tartiflette.

Although for full MN yummy mummy kudos I buy the celeriac ready cubed from the freezer section at waitrose. Grin

VickyEadieofThigh · 26/06/2020 16:39

We also do celeriac instead of potatoes I our house. And I make a very good remoulade with it (there you go, lads - screenshot for you proving we're all yummy mummies, even those of us with no kids and who were brought up in poverty).
