Bunbury's guide to community disruptors part 5

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

Remember our monitors would like to silence us by fair means or foul.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3691023-Bunburys-guide-to-community-disruptors-part-4

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links can be found in the ‘Break it Down for me’ and ‘It never happens’ threads but in essence FermatsTheorem recommended “that in the absence of a block/hide poster button, I suggest the following strategy (given that you're talking to the lurkers).

Do not name check the sealion. Instead, respond to a depersonalised paraphrase:

"It is sometimes erroneously suggested that blah. Blah is wrong for the following reasons (short and pithy). If you need more information re. debunking blah, here's a link."

Then (this next step is important to combat derailment) go back up thread to the last useful contribution to the discussion, make sure you do name check that contributor, and pick up the discussion from that point.”

Go well Witches Gin

Can I ask, does being a MN paid up
Subscriber get you a bit more info from MNHQ on strikes etc?

TinselAngel · 15/08/2020 11:21

I'm finding FWR a hostile environment at the moment due to the influx of shall we say, trans widow's ex's, since Redditt took away r/gendercritical and they had to find another group of women to goad.

Mollscroll · 15/08/2020 11:19

bat photo
It was this. Randomly posted if you wrote something a bit batty. This was long before the current shitshow - much happier days. Maybe we should repurpose it for moments when we know the bat signal has gone out.

Totally agree that MNHQ are apparently being played. I wonder if we can ask for reports about how many posts, by individual, get reported. I wonder if MNHQ keep those stats. Bet they don’t and I bet they’d tell the story.

Oh one last thing

Its so fucking transparent when a longtime poster is being targeted

And if i can see it...I don’t understand why MNHQ can’t

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 15/08/2020 10:50

But i can say that because I don’t say much

Partly cos I’m just not as clever, on the ball or knowledgable as a lot of the women one here

ArabellaScott · 15/08/2020 10:50

I was quite pleased mine was available, too, Albus!

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 15/08/2020 10:44

Rufus and Littl are quiet, etc etc

Well thats a first! Although my friends get concerned if I’m quiet in real life

Distracted in my case...plus sometimes what you want to say you know will get deleted, even if it is carefully and thoughtfully written

I’m not name changing and I’m not letting some halfwit get me banned

@Thelnebriati

I'm getting increasingly irritated at the refusal to deal with trolls and derailers, followed by the removal of entire threads due to the posts made by trolls and derailers.
I have contacted MN about one example, essentially asking if mnhq see it as part of their moderation role to do anything about this (if posts are reported that may not seem, on their own, to be that bad but when clearly displaying a repeated pattern of derailing and attempted bunfight-starting and constant trying to get every thread to discuss a different topic, over a period of months or years) or whether it's up to the community to ignore/ debate (my preference is to ignore!) with mods staying out of it. Genuine question and partly why we have this thread, surely?
AlbusSirius · 15/08/2020 10:40

I can't believe no-one has taken this name yet!

SocialMedea · 15/08/2020 10:31

Bat photo?

I could do with a laugh..

ArabellaScott · 15/08/2020 10:29

Reporting for duty with my shiny new name. Hello, all.

Mollscroll · 15/08/2020 10:18

Name changer here too. Been on here since the bat photo - 14 years man and boy Wink

Name changer here. So we're back to second guessing what the mods want? Lovely.

I’m not sure it was just the dead naming but just the general ‘not nice enough womening’ 🙄 and correctly sexing. MN get really twitchy about pronouns. I posted a link and the first para of a BBC news item about this person and almost edited it because the BBC used ‘he’

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 15/08/2020 09:35

I'm just shite at name changing. Managed to just misspell scrimshaw last time. Must Try Harder.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 15/08/2020 09:34

Ah, well. Always useful to see which areas are the quickest to be vanished.

FloresTorres · 15/08/2020 09:33

Name changer also.
Good morning to FWR name changers out there.
Thank you, for being you. Wink

Mollscroll · 15/08/2020 09:30

No reason to delete the whole thread. Just delete the dead naming if you must although one has to dead name if one wants to check the register. This is publicly available information.

ItsLateHumpty · 15/08/2020 09:23

I hope the OP restarts or gets reinstated the MH one and people are just more circumspect with their posting.
I did figure it’d go when a poster commented they knew the subject of the OP.

It’s an important development and in any case should be added to the ‘it never happens’ thread.

JackiesArmy · 15/08/2020 09:23

Jaysus, this is like ye olden days, I wake up of a morning and find half my "threads I'm on" gone.

Oh well, off to namechange. Kudos to all of you who have managed to keep your names and your accounts!

Testing, testing.
Thanks, TheInebriati.
Loved the big red flag too, but I couldn’t copy it.
