Be an ally to lesbians: stop using LGBTQ+

I'm a lesbian and I mentally parted company with Stonewall and began opposing it and a lot of other LGB organisations when they added the T and then the Q and then all the other identity letters to the original LGB.

LGB people are united by same-sex attraction. TQ and whatever are linked by their insistence on identity — defining themselves by feelings or whatever. LGB people are united by their experience of homophobia. Transgenderism, and its attack on sex, is inherently homophobic. The two cannot and could never exist comfortably together. As soon as Stonewall added the T to their constituency, it began working against its core community.

Stonewall and other organisations have done this by force. Uncoupling the LGB from the TQ+ is one of the most important things anyone with a GC stance can do.

Please, let us work towards making the letters LGBTQ+ a badge of ignorance and shame, not something that employers should be plastering everywhere as proof of how progressive they are.

I’m bewildered. Please explain how gathering with women is misogynistic?

No, you aren't.
Calling a mixed sex group a women only group is covered under the 8th rule of misogyny: Men are whatever men say they are and women are whatever men say they are.

joystir59 · 20/06/2020 01:41

Yes. LGBTQ erases me as a lesbian. Stonewall erases me as a lesbian

PurpleHoodie · 20/06/2020 01:32

So sorry to hear that resister.

Many of us women have coasted on the wake of other womens hard and outspoken battles.* No more.

Let them burn it down.

Women (of all hues, ways and sororities) will build it all up again; and learn the lesson to not use the double plus good words of News speak that allows men to infiltrate our places and spaces.

Angryresister · 20/06/2020 00:28

Lesbian feminist woman for me. No such thing as the alphabet community. Been in too women and lesbian groups over 40 years destroyed by the men pushing their way in.

Shedbuilder · 20/06/2020 00:11

Billi77, please explain how a group that includes men can be a women's group.

I'm with you- LGB makes complete sense.

Melia100 · 19/06/2020 23:49

It's not a woman's only group if it contains males and women.

Sounds like you have some nice mixed sex groups. Lovely. Got nothing to do with women's groups.

Billi77 · 19/06/2020 23:45

@TehBewilderness

*I’m part of a few women only groups. Well, a book/film club and a netball team. We have trans women in both groups. We are all feminists and nobody is transphobic.* That would make you and your group misogynist, not Feminist.

Billi77 · 19/06/2020 23:40

@VickyEadieofThigh

I believe that women, especially lesbians, should be able to have women-only groups, organisations, spaces, facilities, etc. which are not accessible to males no matter how they 'identify'.

But apparently, that's also "transphobic".

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 19/06/2020 21:07

The T only got added circa 2014/2015 so it really shouldn’t be such a big deal to say, ‘nope, turns out that same-sex attraction and cross sex identity aren’t compatible, let’s split back up and do our own shit’

But somehow some folk are determined to wail and gnash their teeth over it

@7ofNine

I saw a poster when I was driving (a proper paid for advert on a bus shelter) that appeared to be from Pride and had the words Intersex in huge letters on it. I couldn't read it as I was driving, but since when has intersex been a sexual orientation? It is a biological condition. Ditto asexuality- that's not a sexual orientation.

LGB only for me.
And I think purple had it right earlier today, at 9:42.

I find the attempts to normalise fetishes insidious.

IIRC intersex was forced under the Trans umbrella several years ago. The forced teaming by abusive men in the LGBT community leadership has been going on for over 15 years.

The TQ+ are doing it without any help from us.
The trans advocates demanded that we listen to queer and transgender people and the more people listened the more they realized that the Emperor was putting on a public display of dominance while in his skivvies.

LesbianMummies · 19/06/2020 20:47

@SapphosRock I’m a lesbian, I’ve experienced being called transphobic as I would not have sex with a pre-op transwoman. Now you can stop saying you don’t know of anyone who has experienced this.

Get the L out! Sick of being thrown under the bus to appease the menz

Shedbuilder · 19/06/2020 20:41

Sappho, this is disingenuous in the extreme:

she manages to never tell other lesbians to accept 'ladydick'. I've never heard any lesbian use such a term IRL or online, I've only ever heard it on here

as you well know, the only time you'll see that threat/ language used here is when lesbians are reporting what's being clearly posted on social media by TRAs against women.

EmpressLangClegSpartacus · 19/06/2020 20:34

Exactly. And yet she manages to never tell other lesbians to accept 'ladydick'. I've never heard any lesbian use such a term IRL or online, I've only ever heard it on here.

She doesn't have a problem including them in Diva though does she?

Last time I picked up a copy, it had interviews with Munroe Bergdorf & Susie Green. And when I had a look at the website just now it was all about LGBTQI. That is emphatically not transwomen staying out of lesbian spaces - although of course Diva wouldn't be a lesbian space any more.

vaginafetishist · 19/06/2020 19:30

The first rule is Be Kind.

I bet it is.

LGB all the way.

SapphosRock · 19/06/2020 18:52

Linda Riley is as TWAW as it gets.

stackthecats · 19/06/2020 18:47

I'm a bi woman who was exclusively lesbian for most of my life. I've never liked the T being sutured on to what used to be LGB -- LGB is about orientation and sexuality, not gender identity which is a completely different thing.

In the 1920s-1930s gay and lesbian people used to be known as "inverts" for their "inverted" sex. It was most often, and started off as, a way of medicalising what was thought of as "deviant" sexuality, and then sometimes a way of gay people mainly lesbians -- being able to lay claim to a political narrative of their existence (see Radclyffe Hall). In the second half of the twentieth century we used to think we were more enlightened and had abandoned the discourse of being "inverts" to have a freer, better way of thinking about desire and sexuality.

Then "inversion" reappeared under a new guise of "trans", but really it's just the same old same old way of re-suturing sexuality back to gender (this time) instead of sex.

I don't want to be told that loving other women is the same as a confusion about my gender/sex role. I don't experience it like that, and I find it insulting and degrading to be told that it is. But somehow my hurt feelings aren't the same as those of a middle-aged man who believes in gendered souls. Why not?

Anyway, I also feel alienated from the rainbow flag now. I can't any longer support Pride when there are kink stalls at festivals and I'm expected to believe that people can be born in the wrong body. I would also distrust anyone wearing a rainbow lanyard as a HCP.

glitterfarts · 19/06/2020 17:52

^ first paragraph not mine

glitterfarts · 19/06/2020 17:51

Those statements are what that awful Riley Dennis says in that video posted up thread. So even the most hardened of trans activists are generally not pressuring lesbians to sleep with males.

Well, yes they are aren't they? Because TRA believe straight males become lesbians if they say they identify as a woman.

For clarity : I am a straight female. I stand with the LGB alliance. Those 2 screenshots above succinctly summarise my exact thoughts.
I'll do my best to be an LGB ally centering women.

EmpressLangClegSpartacus · 19/06/2020 17:39

SapphosRock · 19/06/2020 17:12

User1937 ...you have a vivid imagination.

Ninkanink · 19/06/2020 17:04

Classic cuckoo scenario.

HelloMissus · 19/06/2020 17:01

I’ve never understood it.
LGB is about sexuality. Same sex attraction.
T is about gender identity.

I never get why’re they’re lumped together.
