Just wondering if anyone's seen this on Twitter. Quite a funny, interesting thread, eg

#AskDanielRadcliffe When was the last time you showed solidarity with trans activists by dating a trans woman, and what steps are you taking to unlearn your genital preferences?

Is the first one that showed up when I clicked. Sorry if it's old news.

Hardly - it's pointing out the hypocrisy.

Men like Radcliffe, Owen Jones, Benjamin Cohen who tell women that TWAW till they're blue in the face NEVER acknowledge that lesbians are abused for not wanting to date people with penises. Despite evidence for it all over the internet.

Much as this raises a smile, its exactly the kind of pile on I abhor.

I don't know, has anyone told him to suck a dick until he chokes to death or speculated as to the health of his genitals yet?

JemimaShore · 15/06/2020 20:35

Because lesbians get an awful lot of abuse for saying they don't do dick, or for pointing out they are same sex attracted.

Heard of the "cotton ceiling" workshops set up by trans-activists? Workshops to get lesbians to have sex with them, because they ARE women.

I haven't looked at it today - but yesterday it was very much themed by women's biology.

JemimaShore · 15/06/2020 20:21

I was reading through this yesterday - it was very funny - things along the lines of "as Daniel has set himself up as arbiter of what a woman is, I have a question for him, I'm perimenopausal, and my estrogen levels are dropping putting me at risk of heart disease, can I identify out of this?"

and "Dear Daniel, my finger is swollen, is it because I'm cis?"

And just silly things like that.

I have to say, it really annoys me when men preach TWAW to women, and argue against women-only spaces - but you just KNOW they most likely wouldn't date a transwoman with a penis. Or gay men, who wouldn't date a transman.

The whole "not for relationship purposes" thing - so, as long as they're not impacted, everything is just fine Hmm

Dr Harrop has stated many times he wouldn't have a relationship with a transman, but he seems to get very little shit for it on twitter - and shouts TWAW at women all the time. It bugs me.

contactusdeletus · 15/06/2020 19:21

I understand that people aren't comfortable bringing Daniel's own sex life into the debate. But by stating that sex doesn't matter and gender does, Daniel himself is making a judgement. That school of thinking is used to pressure trans widows to stay with their husbands through transition, it's used to bully lesbians, and it's used to undermine women's sex based rights. Daniel deserves to be held to account for that.

I'd suggest asking him the hard questions.

"Daniel, I am a lesbian and only attracted to natal women. Would you defend my rights are fiercely as you defend those of transgender people? Why / why not?"

"Daniel, I am a man and don't feel I should have to learn to be attracted to penis in order to be a proper ally. Do you accept that there are important differences between women and transwomen, or do you think it's hateful for every human not be bisexual?"

"Dear Daniel, why did you as a man feel it was your place to speak on a feminist issue, let alone speak over a woman on it?"

"Dear Dan, my Harry Potter movies have gone straight in the bin. I now consider JK's books to be the only true Harry Potter content. Thank you for helping me see that if I didn't like your opinions, I could simply cancel you and pretend you don't exist."

"Dear Daniel, what is your position on the troubling side effects associated with off-label use of Lupron? Do you believe parents should stay silent about this out of fear of being called transphobic? Or should they look for less harmful ways to manage their children's dysphoria? Would you be willing to use your considerable platform to support parents who might want to sue? Why / why not?"

And so on. Ask him calm, rational questions about the knottier aspects of the transgender issue, and let him hang himself with his own words.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/06/2020 18:52

No one here thinks he should have to date anyone he doesn't want to. It's highlighting his hypocrisy.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/06/2020 18:51

I dont get this "he should date a trans woman argument" at all.

It would be hypocrisy if he wouldn't, as one of the statements JK made was about same sex attraction being attacked, when he condemned her tweets without conceding anything that she mentioned affects women.

Smellbellina · 15/06/2020 17:39

Of course it’s relevant, the statement ‘trans women are women’ has led to lesbians being vilified for not wanting to date a trans woman with a ‘female dick’ because they aren’t into dicks. This is part of the debate, the hate that has been directed at the lesbian community by some TRA’s. Is DR even aware of this? Probably not, but if he wants to trope out the line he should be.

EarlofEggMcMuffin · 15/06/2020 16:15

I dont get this "he should date a trans woman argument" at all.

It's the equivalent of saying that if you believe in human rights, then you should date people with black hair or green eyes or are overweight. And prove that you are egalitarian by dating them.

If I dont find someone attractive then I have every right not to date them.
I wouldn't find a transman attractive. Just wouldn't.
Equally, I dont find men who are gym muscle bound, attractive. I just dont.
I have every right to draw the line and say "no thanks not for me".
But I will still assert their right to be treated kindly and respectfully.

I dont agree with Radcliffe, I dont like that he jumped on a bandwagon. If he had any respect for JKR, then he would have stayed quiet- perhaps contacting her quietly to say "cant stick my head up on this one, but I agree/disagree".

To say that he has to date a trans woman, to prove that he really meant it....well that's not an argument that going to wash.

bellajay · 15/06/2020 14:09

If everyone who believes in trans rights had to date a trans person to prove it, the trans population would be very busy.

OhHolyJesus · 15/06/2020 13:44

Radcliffe is married to a woman, an actress.
Grint is also married to a woman and have a baby daughter, I expect he won't mind if his daughter becomes an elite athlete and is constantly beaten by a transwoman athlete.
Redmayne is married to a woman.

An ally on the streets, t*rf in the sheets.

You see it again and again.
No one believes it they just say TWAW for woke cookies.

I'd personally love it is Watson we're to date a transwoman or transman, out of all of them I expect her to have the courage of her convictions and stand by her words. Fingers crossed eh? I've heard trans people have a terrible time dating due to genital preferences.

DeRigueurMortis · 15/06/2020 13:36

I've had a look and frankly there are a lot of very reasonable questions under that hashtag.

If DR could be bothered to read them he just might start to get an inkling of the issues at stake.

As for a pile on, I don't agree.

He made a public statement that people are responding to. He didn't have to make that statement and throw JKR under a bus (pouring fuel onto the pile in against her).

If you want to air your views publicly be prepared to defend them (as JKR has done).

Besides he did not so much share a view as rather tell JKR she was wrong by quoting a strap line from an ideology that he failed to explain why it was correct.

Michelleoftheresistance · 15/06/2020 13:29

I agree he probably would.

It's a conversation I'd dearly love to hear him faced with, self satisfied little twit.

BaronessBrighterThanYou · 15/06/2020 13:28

Radcliffe hasn't as yet tried to instruct females to do things that he would furiously object to doing himself.

Interesting point michelle.

How could he furiously object to sharing a single sex space with say, Karen White? In order to "get it" he'd have to imagine how he'd feel sharing that space with that person as a woman. Show some empathy perhaps? So the question is, does DR have any empathy for women (or is it just transwomen) and does he have any imagination.

It looks to me as tho he'd fail on both those tests.

CockCarousel · 15/06/2020 13:26

I don't think anyone's asking about DR's private life, just pointing out that he's not dated a transwoman. If he believes they are truly women, then surely he would have. Otherwise that's hypocrisy and people see throught that, hence him being laughed at.

DR shouldn't really lecture women on how to be women and not expect people to talk about it. No-one's demanded DR suck their cock or anything.

Michelleoftheresistance · 15/06/2020 13:18

I'll agree I don't think it's high on class. I'm disgusted with all three of them, they've behaved very badly in all this, and I would like to hear Radcliffe bluster his way through explaining what he thinks should happen in reality to females who are lesbians being harassed and how this isn't homophobic, or females who can't access refuges (perhaps he'd like to meet the MNetter who's lived on the streets for months due to this), or females who won't be able to access medical care or use public toilets, many excluded by race, faith, culture and disability. Or what should happen to the females prison officers describe as intimidated, miserable and being assaulted in the name of the better happiness and respect for their abuser. Be fascinated to see how he and the others try to get around that while still sounding likeable.

But I presume he'll fancy who he fancies, that's up to him, and while I can see that this has been an area of utter hypocrisy before, notably from Harrop and LOJ, Radcliffe hasn't as yet tried to instruct females to do things that he would furiously object to doing himself.

BaronessBrighterThanYou · 15/06/2020 13:18

I get that.

Notverybright · 15/06/2020 13:14

Thanks BaronessRadcliffeFemish I don’t really like yours though.

BaronessRadcliffeFemish · 15/06/2020 13:12

Best. Username. Ever.

Notverybright · 15/06/2020 13:10

Yes I understand the point. I still think it’s intrusive and mean. I expect a lot of women on the feminism topic don’t like it when men question young female celebrities about their sex lives?-oh sorry, who they are dating... cause that’s entirely different.

hoodathunkit · 15/06/2020 13:08

I suspect that a lot more "heterosexual" men than readers here imagine share the preoccupations of Alan Partridge

I really don't care about DR's dating / sexual preferences.

I am massively unimpressed with him for other, obvious, reasons.
