I've just listened to that. Well done Nicola, you did brilliantly getting the message over in such a clear and rational way.

Destinysdaughter · 15/06/2020 12:49

Ha that thread is brilliant!

Meanwhile, this is what happens when two women are talking about women's rights. You know, their own rights.

It's almost as though they share a collective experience...

Nic Williams and Julia Hartley Brewer this morning.

@Destinysdaughter

I'm on a GC group on FB and there's been an influx of new women recently who didn't know much about this issue until the JK Rowling furore, but are now becoming aware and are incensed about it.
I saw a fantastic Twitter thread yesterday on Jane Clare Jones’ feed where she commented on how many new users she’s picked up since JKR’s blog/essay. There followed a series of tweets from people new to the debate saying they agreed with JKR, were shocked with what was going on and/or were heartened to find rational voices on Twitter. I wish I’d bookmarked it so I could post here. JKR has opened this up to the wider public.

Lovely.

Of course they target MN. It's primarily used by females, and of course we must be spreading 'hate' and 'recruiting' because it would make their brains explode to think that a group of intelligent women are capable of having discussions and opinions without men, or shock horror, that we dare to stand up to them.

IW is against self ID as it makes everything IW went through to transition pointless.

IDanielRadcliffe · 15/06/2020 10:47

langclegdlavoredbananamush that’s a really lovely sentiment.

langclegflavoredbananamush · 15/06/2020 10:35

I'm not religious, but you really have done a bit of a JC for the rest of womanhood. You knew exactly how the patriarchy would make you pay for talking about your experiences of male violence, but you knew you had to do it for our sake. Halo

I see it as more of a Lily Potter move, stepping in the way of harm, taking the hit but by doing so messing up the evil spell being cast at us...I just hope she knows how appreciated she is for it.

I'm also hoping it will work out like it did for Harry when most of the school turned against him, but came to see he was right all along.

@endofthelinefinally

And as for the snide little digs at MN while failing to mention other sites...
It might work to MN's advantage. They say all publicity is good publicity.
PopperUppleton · 15/06/2020 10:14

Not sure about having a purple bottom Grin

It is infuriating when men deliberately miss the point.

Ernieshere · 15/06/2020 09:08

Susanna Reid should have been able to say more.

The PM show.

RuffleCrow · 15/06/2020 09:08

Thank you, JKR for bringing to light, once and for all, the cesspool of misogyny we live in. You have to be able to see how just bad the situation really is before you can work out how to improve it. I'm not religious, but you really have done a bit of a JC for the rest of womanhood. You knew exactly how the patriarchy would make you pay for talking about your experiences of male violence, but you knew you had to do it for our sake. Halo

ShiveringCoyote · 15/06/2020 09:08

I have a real life fear of baboons and orangutans.I even have to change the channel if they come on the TV.

InfiniteSheldon · 15/06/2020 09:03

I don't think I want to wear a uniform. I shall self Id as a baboon and sit under tge cheese plant I'll still look exactly like part of the gang and if you don't agree you're all baboonphobic

Flapjak · 15/06/2020 09:02

I thought Nicole came across quite well, and it would have been good if she and Kathleen had been given more airtime. Piers nearly always ruins the opportunity for a good debate by imposing his views and what he thinks ..its annoying. And in this case i felt it was absolutely appalling that he expresses that JK Rowling was using her experience of male violence to deflect the trolls rather than give context.

ShiveringCoyote · 15/06/2020 09:00

Better brace ourselves for an influx of new members looking for screenshots. Shall we don a uniform? Green hat, white top and purple bottoms? I don't think women who have periods would feel comfortable in white bottoms.

Redshoeblueshoe · 15/06/2020 08:51

I thought it interesting that neither Nicole or India agreed with self Id.
