I was considering getting a Harry Potter tattoo

In support of JKR.

But the responses of cast have put a dampener on that.

Am trying to think what small gesture I could get.

I have around 30 tattoos so it's not some huge gesture, I like to add little things I feel strongly about.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Forgot to add, get that tattooed on you! 😂. It will take 6 months and cost £1 million!

There is no difference between sex and gender! Gender was introduced as a better term than sex. Instead of saying "what sex is the baby?", people started saying "what gender is the baby?".

All the dictionaries in the world can change the meaning of gender to 'societal feelings' blah blah blah to be all PC but the fact of the matter is your gender is your biological sex, just in a less abrasive term.

If you want to live as female when you're male, go ahead. I will respect that. You ask me to call you she, address you as her and use a female name, of course, I have no issue with that. But don't start calling me 'people' and 'they' so that you feel better. I am my biological sex and live as that. I matter too and if addressing a large group of people about a bodily function, the term is women because it's a fact. Some may have transionted from female to male which is fine but they are a very small minority. Don't expect the universe to change it's pronouns when addressing masses to suit you and the choices you made. It's very privileged and disgusting in a world where people experience derogatory terms all the time and women have fought to be equal and now they're expected to be known as 'people' and 'they' to suit choices other people make. I find it sexist. Women can just fuck off and deal with it as they always have type of thing

I do like book 7 Neville though Grin

DickKerrLadies · 13/06/2020 21:40

@notyourhandmaid

Quote from the last book: "The thing is, it helps when people stand up to them, it gives everyone hope."
I'd forgotten that line.

I googled the quote and found the passage it's from. It's quite interesting. I'll paste it here but please note I'm not suggesting anyone gets the whole bit tattooed on them. Unless you really want to of course.

---

“We’re supposed to practice the Cruciatus Curse on people who’ve earned detentions--”
“What?”
Harry, Ron, and Hermione’s untied voices echoed up and down the passage.
“Yeah,” said Neville. “That’s how I got this one,” he pointed at a particularly deep dash in his cheek, “I refused to do it. Some people are into it, though; Crabbe and Goyle love it. First time they’ve ever been top in anything, I expect.
“Alecto, Amycus’s sister, teaches Muggle Studies, which is compulsory for everyone. We’ve all got to listen to her explain how Muggles are like animals, stupid and dirty, and how they drove wizards into hiding by being vicious toward them, and how the natural order is being reestablished. I got this one,” he indicated another slash to his face, “for asking her how much Muggle blood she and her brother have got.”
“Blimey, Neville,” said Ron, “there’s a time and a place for getting a smart mouth.”
“You didn’t hear her,” said Neville. “You wouldn’t have stood it either. The thing is, it helps when people stand up to them, it gives everyone hope. I used to notice that when you did it, Harry.”
“But they’ve used you as a knife sharpener,” said Ron, wincing slightly as they passed a lamp and Neville’s injuries were thrown into even greater relief.
Neville shrugged.
“Doesn’t matter. They don’t want to spill too much pure blood, so they’ll torture us a bit if we’re mouthy but they won’t actually kill us.”
Harry did not know what was worse, the things that Neville was saying or the matter-of-fact tone in which he said them.”

Sorry there was a thread. Story about how geese work together. It really got to me.... let me find it. Not sure if I can link particular posts but will link the thread.

TheFormerPorpentiaScamander · 13/06/2020 20:23

@WomaninBoots

I think "Lumos" would be brilliant and I'm also seriously considering a goose tattoo but think I have to come out on Facebook before I deserve that.

Honk honk.

Honk honk am goose.

What's the significance of a goose?

ItsLateHumpty · 13/06/2020 20:18

Bloody opps, sorry if I bird popped on this thread!

Pogz92 wow, thanks so much for the time and advice.

I’ve no ink yet, but what I’m thinking about is so v v personal because it’s to commemorate my life partner, (he’s still here, but we know it’s limited) and it’s the only ink I’ll have. It’s not like my wedding ring which I can take off, so I really appreciate your time out.

TranielleRadcliffe · 13/06/2020 17:24

Thank you. I hope an actual artist would be able to make it look much much better than my scribbles.

Pogz92 · 13/06/2020 17:19

That is beautiful!!

And your name 😂😂😂

I want a Harry Potter tattoo. Have done for a few years. I have none at the moment and never thought I’d want one but suddenly really wanted a huge one and sketched this out.

TranielleRadcliffe · 13/06/2020 17:10

@stumbledin

Just wanted to tag onto this discussion as i was going to start a thread about how maybe we should all become red heads.

So at meetings or demos (in the future) not only would you know not to go near anyone with rainbow hair, but you could approach someone with red hair with confidence of meeting a JKR supporter! Smile

I have red hair already (natural) and I couldn’t adore JKR more!
Cwenthryth · 13/06/2020 17:06

Nope I have rainbow hair too! Don’t tar all creatively-tressed people the same!

stumbledin · 13/06/2020 17:01

Pogz92 - oh sorry Blush - I thought everyone had been frightened off by the association with a certain type of woke indiviudal!

DameHannahRelf - sigh - and the next thing you know we would all be accused of appropriated the hair colour of a marginalised group.

But am warming to the idea of some sort of passward and response!

7ofNine · 13/06/2020 16:49

@Cwenthryth that's a great quote.

What is the significance of a goose please @WomaninBoots ?

Pogz92 · 13/06/2020 16:39

Also make sure the pics being used on their social media are theirs! (Google reverse search is helpful for this!)

Pogz92 · 13/06/2020 16:37

It'slate.

I would find your local tattoo shops and first look at the Google and yelp reviews.
Then I would look at the shops Instagram and Facebook pages to see individual artists styles and again, testimonies from people who have used them.

Even after lockdown when demand is going to be high, I wouldn't trust an artist that can take walk ins.

Any decent artist is going to be booked up at least a fortnight, unless they have a random cancellation (they usually advertise them on social media)

Once you've found someone you like contact them online. Explain what you would like, send as many pictures as you can. Get their feedback on what they think. Placement etc.

Ask them about hygiene certificates. Any tattooist worth their salt will give you their time on these issues. If they get funny walk away.

Finally visit the shop if you can, this may be difficult iin these strange corona-y times but even if you can't, when you do go for your appointment check the place out. Look at other artists working.

Are they wearing gloves? Have they put cling film down to protect surfaces? Are they using clean needles. Did they disinfect their station before starting to work.

Remember if you see something you don't like you can walk away at anytime.

95% of shops are immaculate and have impeccable practises. You don't get far these days without this, but it's still important to be aware.

Finally if it's your first tattoo ask for a caresheet to help with aftercare.

Just find someone you are comfortable with!

Posie is selling I heart JK t shirts on her standing for women page

Thanks! Just ordered Smile

@Pogz92

This isn't mine. But it's what mine is based off.
That’s really lovely 😊

I live in Oz now, via a few other places, and tattoos seem more mainstream here, but so many are badly done.

I’ve toyed with getting something myself, but it’s like walking in to a bar for the first time, and having no idea what you drink, or to ask for it, and not flushing beet red and running away.

If you’ve a minute to me derail, what questions should I ask, and what should I be looking for?
