Mermaids lie, lie and lie again knowingly, i am sure it is a tactic, as they know some or all of it will be believed.

ItsLateHumpty · 13/06/2020 12:27

Mermaids actually say there's no evidence of transgirls causing a problem? As well as Dolatowski as mentioned by a PP...

And this thread twitter.com/ripx4nutmeg/status/1169574515355074560

“Should trans woman Zelda Cross, who asked this question before uploading to the internet an 8 minute video of them masturbating in the women’s toilets, be allowed to use women’s toilets?“

“Should trans woman Aiyona Hunt, who has boasted about attacking women in women’s toilets, be allowed to use women’s toilets?“

“Should trans woman Jessica Yaniv, who has a track record of taking selfies in which other people are photographed, be allowed to use the women’s toilets?“
(my edit to add - let’s not talk about their tampon / young girl fetish)

“Should convicted paedophile Laverne Waskahat, who now identifies as a woman, be allowed to use the women’s toilets even though the police have said they’re likely to use public women's toilets to abuse girls?“

“Should Katie Dolatowski, who is sexually attracted to girls, and discovered that access to them is granted if you identify as a woman, and then sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl in a supermarket’s women’s toilet, be allowed to use the women’s toilets?”

Etc. ect. ect.

ItsLateHumpty · 13/06/2020 12:20

Mermaids are trying to claim that females are routinely placed in the male estate.

Women in UK prisons breakdown. It’s awful.

www.womeninprison.org.uk/research/key-facts.php

Read all of it but in answer to ‘females in male estates’

Women’s Prisons

Women are held in 12 prisons in England.

  • There are no women’s prisons in Wales.
  • There is one women’s prison in Scotland, with some women also held in units within men’s prisons across the country.
  • In Northern Ireland women are held in a unit within a male Young Offenders Institution.

But the stats are dire for incarcerated women generally.

Women make up around 5% of the overall prison population in the UK.
Most women entering prison to serve a sentence (80%) have committed a non-violent offence.
Despite its abolition in 2012, many women are still serving an IPP sentence, despite having passed their tariff expiry date.
48% of women have committed an offence in order to support the drug use of someone else.
46% of women in prison report having attempted suicide at some point in their lifetime. This is twice the rate of men (21%) and more than seven times higher than the general population.
The criminal justice system disproportionately impacts women who Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME);
BAME women comprise 11.9% of the women’s general population in England and Wales, but 20% of the women’s prison population.
Seven in 10 (70%!) women in prison reported that they had been a victim of domestic violence.
53% of women in prison report having experienced emotional, physical or sexual abuse during childhood.
31% women in prison have spent time in local authority care as a child.

And none of this will get better if males as IDing as transwomen are routinely placed in female estates.

Trying to prove this however will be impossible as the stats will count transwomen as female.

Doyoumind · 13/06/2020 12:10

The thing is, JKR's statement truly was based on research and building up knowledge. Mermaids have a difficult relationship with the truth

OvaHere · 13/06/2020 11:58

Mermaids are trying to claim that females are routinely placed in the male estate.

This is blatantly a lie.

Imagine making shit up to try and justify getting violent male sex offenders place in women's prisons.

merrymouse · 13/06/2020 11:52

throw open the doors of bathrooms and changing rooms” is disingenuous…as well as smelly. While you offer no evidence to back up your suggestion that most women oppose changes around trans access to women’s toilets, we can offer evidence to the contrary

One point to mermaids - they do at least use the accurate term 'toilet'. We don't have public bathrooms in the UK.

However, deduct 50 points for claiming that JKR was talking about trans access to women's toilets when she was talking about men's access to women's toilets and changing rooms.

M&S have already agreed any man can use the bra fitting changing rooms, because it is necessary to be fully inclusive.

nauticant · 13/06/2020 11:40

Damn, should have been Creasy.

nauticant · 13/06/2020 11:40

Didn't a Labour MP (I'm thinking Creasy) minimise it as between peers or something?

Stella Creasey's view is that you put "trans girls" first and then get counselling for any girls who are abused:

twitter.com/stellacreasy/status/975440621765873664

Unfortunately a key part of the conversation has been removed by twitter by banning a woman with non-compliant views.

ItsLateHumpty · 13/06/2020 11:36

Sorry can now confirm I was adding to @Deltoids1 point.

ItsLateHumpty · 13/06/2020 11:35

6. While you offer no evidence to back up your suggestion that most women oppose changes around trans access to women’s toilets, we can offer evidence to the contrary.

Whilst I don’t know of any research out there, I’m pretty sure if should a picture of Karen White to the general population as asked them if they were comfortable with their daughter toileting/changing next to White, there would be a consensus against it.

To add to OPs point in italics (sorry I can’t scroll to name check)

www.heraldscotland.com/news/16328719.poll-finds-people-oppose-self-declared-gender-by-3-to-1/

This is from a Oink News poll.

ONLY one person in five supports transgender people being legally allowed to self-declare their new gender without the approval of a doctor.

A poll for PinkNews found only 18 per cent backed the idea, with three times as many, 58 per cent, saying a medical opinion ought to be involved, and the rest undecided.

The YouGov poll of 1688 people was conducted UK-wide in anticipation of the UK government consulting on changes to the 2004 Gender Recognition Act.

So, even if you want to go down the route that a man is a woman in the eyes of the law, that’s only is the male has a GRC. In the UK only approx. 5000 people in total have a GRC (male and female). (And even with a GRC exclusions can still be applied if proportionate).

I can only assume they have other evidence. And I want receipts.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 13/06/2020 11:34

Mermaids actually say there's no evidence of transgirls causing a problem? As well as Dolatowski as mentioned by a PP, I remember a storm a couple of years ago where a transgirl was masturbating in the female changing room while girls were getting changed. Didn't a Labour MP (I'm thinking Creasy) minimise it as between peers or something?

Gncq · 13/06/2020 11:28

@Aesopfable

Storme was a fucking lesbian

The historical transing of people who are no longer alive is fucking disgraceful.

Were they even referring to her? I thought as a women (yes they recognise her sex) they have ignored her role in favour of a man - Marsha something - a drag queen who called himself a man. Who wasn’t there.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marsha_P._Johnson#:~:text=Marsha%20P.%20Johnson%20(August%2024,the%20Stonewall%20uprising%20of%201969.

Yeah whenever anyone says a transwoman started the riots, j assume they're talking about Marsha P, not Storme.

Either way they're wrong.

NotBadConsidering · 13/06/2020 10:55

when it does the exact opposite cannot be an error.

A while ago, The Daily Show (before it got too woke) did a brilliant piece called the Parent Company Trap where they were arguing whether Fox News were evil or stupid. They wore Team Evil and Team Stupid t shirts, to piss take the Team Edward and Team Jacob shirts that were popular at the time. This reminds me of that.

If they know that the study shows trans males retain the same level of criminality but choose to try and hide it, then that is a level of malevolence worthy of those who commit the crimes themselves because they’re complicit, and that makes them Team Evil.

But if they actually didn’t read it and didn’t understand it, but still posted it anyway, that’s a level of stupidity beyond comprehension, I’m talking potatoes with mouths, and that makes them Team Stupid.

Cast your vote!

Dances · 13/06/2020 10:53

Looking forward to the day that Mermaids is taken to task by the Government.

Lordfrontpaw · 13/06/2020 10:50

It’s like Kids Company. Personality cult, boo boo saviours of the downtrodden and abused...

bishopgiggles · 13/06/2020 10:50

Mermaids are dodgy as anything and I'm amazed that even well-meaning intelligent pro-trans-rights people can't find a better trans charity to support. Why do they demand purity from anyone else but Mermaids are allowed to get away with whatever they want? SG has no medical background, and HI took a trans woman to court FFS. SG has come out with awful stuff in the past and had to backtrack - the usual things about knowing her child was a girl because they played with dolls.

It baffles me that my woke (not using that derivatively) friends don't see or don't care, presumably because it's children involved. Which should mean we demand far higher standards, not lower!

Lordfrontpaw · 13/06/2020 10:47

Facts aren’t their forte.

AnyOldPrion · 13/06/2020 10:44

I was quite surprised they linked to that study to somehow claim that "This research shows that trans women are no more a threat to women than other cisgender women".

This particular lie is shocking. To claim a piece of scientific research supports your position when it does the exact opposite cannot be an error.

Lordfrontpaw · 13/06/2020 10:41

Yes the transwash version is that Marsha was a trans woman and leading the riot like Marianne.

He - for he said he was he - wasn’t the. Storme was a woman a even through there have been attempts to transwash her too.

Oh and the statues on NY to the riots? Both men.

HandsOffMyRights · 13/06/2020 10:37

To address the core of your point, trans rights do not come at the expense of women’s rights.

Liars and charlatans.

Bananabixfloof · 13/06/2020 10:30

@ThisIsMeOrIsIt

I've just read some of the Gender Recognition Act. First it's talking about gender, which I didn't think was even acknowledged legally anywhere. So I don't understand why they've used the word gender. (Perhaps an argument for another day?)

Second, it looks like someone needs to be committed to changing their gender by living as that gender for two years and taking to a doctor or psychologist. That doesn't seem complicated to me?

First what might "living as a woman" look like, or entail? Second there are many places committed to telling a person how to speed up this process. Third what does a grc matter when one cannot ask to see it. Fourth a grc at the moment is useless for most as all they have to do is say the magic words "I am woman" and tadaaa with magic and unicorns somehow is a woman. Nope I dont get it either.

Living as a woman in Scotland anyway is having a female name and pronoun, and changing your gas bill to reflect this new reality. Oddly the Scottish definition of a woman does not include adult human females. Hows that work you ask. I shrug and say magic, unicorns, stunning and brave.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 13/06/2020 10:26

* For our part, all we are asking is that you meet with transgender young people and listen to them with an open mind and an open heart."

This is very manipulative. ^^

doublehalo · 13/06/2020 10:26

It seems they're saying that for approximately 0.52% of the UK population that are trans

The last time I checked (which was about 3 years ago) the figure was actually 0.003%, yes that is zero point zero zero three per cent.

Even if you include all the thousands ofyoung girls who have been groomed I don't think you'd get to .5%

bishopgiggles · 13/06/2020 10:20

"For our part, all we are asking is that you meet with transgender young people and listen to them with an open mind and an open heart."

Again, that's simply not true is it? Mermaids are asking people to believe all sorts of things that they don't and can't believe. They are asking to get laws changed. They are asking for male-born teens to be allowed to sleep, change etc in the same area as female-born teens. etc

Xanthangum · 13/06/2020 10:06

Channel 4 Fact Check - JKR is correct, Pink News (and so therefore Mermaids as well) is wrong
