As for Mermaids - the tone of their statement is marginally better than they've put out before, but the statement itself is filled with nonsense. It parades the usual ignorance (ignoring Storme de Lavarie in favour of a gay man who by his own account wasn't there, misgendering that same gay man, etc etc), and then goes on to parade their usual DARVO at JKR and any other woman who dares to disobey them.

Remember, Mermaids is the organisation responsible for gay conversion therapy. This is the organisation whose PR person (not trans) brought a prosecution against a transwoman (Miranda Yardley) for "transphobia" (!!!!!!!!!) and lost. This is the organisation that has gone out of their way to slander and bully a ton of lesbians online. This is the organisation whose spokesperson Fox Fisher said the T should leave the LGBT because T people didn't want to associate with deviancy. (It was a "d" word - might have been "degenerates" - you get the idea.) Ad infinitum.

Mermaids are both individually and institutionally homophobic, and I don't see why either we or Jo Rowling should give a shit what they say.

LordFrontPaw I did google Stephonknee once, and got Stephonknee's pinterest page, which then was an absolutely horrifying mix of photos of real little girls in party dresses, and extreme fetish porn. On the same page. I just started to type "why Stephonknee hasn't been investigated I'll never know" but of course we do know why. There isn't a safeguarding issue that can't be ignored in favour of someone who covers themselves in gender identity teflon.

I still can't believe Stephonknee was thanked in the chamber of the Canadian parliament.

They want to give the impression that that there would be no males in female spaces, as they call transwomen female. Also that male transpeople are not a danger to women. When almost half of the transwomen in prison are sex offenders. (That is the ones we know of, the ones with a GRC may simply be recorded as women.)

tabulahrasa · 15/06/2020 11:38

“Men who prey on vulnerable women are a worldwide problem, but this has nothing whatever to do with trans people”

See... but how doesn’t it?

My personal opinion on toilets is (I’m aware others feel differently) that I care not who’s using the same toilets as long as it’s because they want to use a toilet.

But, it needs to come without a loophole of letting sexual predators gain easier access.

Why is that aspect of it not something that bothers trans people... as they’d also be in those toilets?...

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 15/06/2020 11:21

It was predictable that the stock response in relation to the risk posed to women in their protected spaces - 'that never happens' - would have been embedded in there somewhere. Interesting to note that it's been toned down somewhat to 'we're not aware that this has ever happened'.

That argument's already been emphatically debunked.

SarahTancredi · 15/06/2020 11:17

You would think.

So many times cases like this highlight the insanity and what inevitably will be the end result. The lengths they will go to and the utter ridiculousness they will endorse or pay along with in order to maintain women are hysterical and bigoted is mind boggling.

Lordfrontpaw · 15/06/2020 11:12

@SarahTancredi

I cant believe they even have stefonkmee air time. If they genuinely believed they were a 6 yr old girl then why wasnt the "adoptive father" S was having a sexual relationship with arrested for child abuse ? So we all have to believe S is a 6 year old girl even though no one treats S as a 6 year old girl but we are the problem denying their identity?
And wouldn’t the ‘mum’ also be arrested for the me same (if rumours are to be believed). Wouldn’t their daughter be taken into care on account of this behaviour?
Lordfrontpaw · 15/06/2020 11:10

@Ereshkigalangcleg

I’ve often wondered about Stefonknee if he STILL identifies as a 6 year old girl, as in perpetually, or if he was 6 in December 2015 and now sees himself as a 10 year old girl. 🤔

Quite, it really is a puzzle for our age!

I’m not googling...
monkeyonthetable · 15/06/2020 09:32

Men who prey on vulnerable women are a worldwide problem, but this has nothing whatever to do with trans people.

Until both sides recognise that this is not true and is at the heart of the problem, we won't find agreement. Of course male violence has a lot to do with transpeople. Because there are men who chuck on a frock to gain access to female safe spaces with abuse in mind. They are not trans but they claim to be and the unquestioning, wide acceptance of self-identification fails to make the crucial distinction between real trans people and manipulative power- abusers. It's abusive males in frocks that feminists are fighting, not the the majority of the trans community. If trans people acknowledged that women don't want men in drag to have access to safe spaces, to compete against them in sport, to shout them down in meetings, to up the women's serious crime statistics, to take roles in business that have only just begun to be demarcated as needing to be given to women to redress the imbalance that has existed forever, if all that can't be acknowledged and respected we just can't move forward.

Blackdoggotmytonguestill · 15/06/2020 03:43

That’s exactly the sort of thing that concerns me. Eesh. I actually do want my account back and not have to start again (although it’s tempting to have a clear account that hasn’t been picked up by a terfblocker) but equally it’s hard to build contacts again.

HandsOffMyRights · 14/06/2020 23:54

Steal

Twitter and I had a funny game. After TRAs got me banned for a bit, Twitter demanded I enter a phone no each time I logged on.

Previously I'd given Twitter my number permanently and got lots of silent calls in my 1st week. I phoned every number back too as I was curious and happy to speak to their parents, but they didn't answer or the number was out of service. Little weasels.

This time, I didn't want to give my number, but each time I logged on I'd give it. As soon as I was logged in I deleted my number, but each time it demanded it again.

In the end I closed my account. I now have a new one, but I just look and don't post.

I'd definitely get a cheap phone or £5 SIM. The TRAs must have racked up loads of them by now!

hazandduck · 14/06/2020 23:35

Thanks @TehBewilderness those rules are so maddeningly true! Not sure what DARVO stands for (off to google). I just can’t believe the shit this TRA was coming out with. He said my movement is sexist and supports men...my movement, as in feminism?? I thought about blocking him (he posted about 70 comments on my one post) but then I thought people who see it may just realise how aggressive some TRAs can be. My family saw it and they don’t usually comment on the whole trans debate but they were outraged.

Blackdoggotmytonguestill · 14/06/2020 23:07

Fab. Thank you. The whole doxxing thing pisses me off and I trust the twitter administration even less than I do mn interns.

TehBewilderness · 14/06/2020 22:53

@hazandduck

Oh my word that is hilarious *@OvaHere*! I bet Mermaids were fuming 😂

I shared a post on Instagram back in December in support of Maya and JK Rowling and recently have been absolutely inundated with comments from a persistent poster trying to educate me. I stopped trying to reason with him when he told me I have blood on my hands. It is beyond absurd. I did actually get quite tearful after when talking to DH about it, (he is quietly supportive but usually tells me to step away from it when I get too upset) because I keep doubting myself, but I cannot buy in to this lie that you can change sex. When I talk about it I feel like people think I am hysterical or a bigot. Why is being perceived as a transphobe so much worse than being sexist which is what gender identities are?

These boards keep me sane. Why does no one in real life get it?

1st rule of misogyny: Women are responsible for what men do. 2nd rule of misogyny: Women saying no to men is a hate crime. 3rd rule of misogyny: Women speaking for themselves are exclusionary and "selfish". 4th rule of misogyny: Women's opinions are violence against men, thus male violence against women is justified. 5th rule of misogyny: Women and Feminism must be useful to men or they are worthless.

It seems complicated when they come at you with the DARVO, and the gaslighting, and the forced teaming, and the projection, but what that really ought to do for us is alert us to the fact that an abuser has targeted us. Those are the tools of the abuser.

Stealhsquirrelnutkin · 14/06/2020 22:38

Does anyone know, out of interest, if a suspended twitter account eventually crumbles and gives the bastards their phone number, do they reinstate the deleted posts? (I was arguing with Stella Creasy - no idea if any of the unreadable stuff is mine.)

I'm not sure about them reinstating deleted posts, but I do know that they accept any phone number that accepts texts. I didn't want to give them my real phone number so I put a fiver on a free sim card and used that number to 'verify' my account so that they unlocked it. Once I could log in again I went straight into settings and deleted the phone number, if they ask in future I'll do the same thing again.

@Lordfrontpaw

I wonder who the bloke in the photo is?

It's Tom Burke as Cormoran Strike

Lordfrontpaw · 14/06/2020 08:33

I wonder if their ‘sibling’ still enjoy having a sister? Didn’t they advise the gvt?

Because, you know, one of those ideas is clearly more logical than the other 😆

TehBewilderness · 14/06/2020 03:08

@Ickabog

We see no evidence that trans girls are a threat to other girls in any way.

Very telling that they choose to mention trans girls, as apposed to trans women...

A lot of adult transgender males identify as trans girls, not women. One particularly infamous one identifies as six years old.

Also too and besides...
SAY HER NAME! STORME DELARVERIE!

sourdoughismyreligion · 14/06/2020 01:58

There are many accounts and growing research showing that hormone therapy does not necessarily render a person infertile, although it has been suggested that taking oestrogen or testosterone can, over time, lead to a complete loss of fertility. This however has not been proven in any clinical trial.

Has any clinical trial taken place to determine the long term physical impacts of hormone therapy?

LockdownLump · 14/06/2020 01:38

So badly written. Made me feel bored

NotBadConsidering · 14/06/2020 01:14

Do none of those adult women who work at Mermaids remember being a teenage girl? Do they honestly look back at that time and think they would have been happy with a teenage boy in their single sex space?

Someone claimed the Mermaids letter was “empathetic”, but not to girls as a whole of course.
