Lots of people back pedalling slightly because there is nothing to be said other than that it is horrific. Outpouring of more virtue signalling.

OJ has slammed it but has disabled replies from those outside his echo chamber so people can't tell him what a bloody hypocrite he is.

From The Times, like The Sun a News International/ Murdoch newpaper, this morning:

JK Rowling: Trolls rain down curses, misogyny and sexual threats

It's a marvellous bit of disingenuousness. News International know exactly what they're doing here and the TRAs are walking straight into their trap.

Collidascope · 12/06/2020 09:48

Weaponise trauma??

Jesus, Jameela. Remember the myth of Medusa who gets raped and then is punished for that by being turned into the Gorgon, this terrifying creature with snake hair? Most feminists consider that story quite misogynistic. I'm guessing Jameela thinks it's right on and that no woman who objects to male presence in certain space could actually be being honest. Must be because they're being manipulative. Liberal feminism, everyone.

Gncq · 12/06/2020 09:47

So she looks at the abusive replies, says "I didn't see it... (change of subject)" saying nothing about that at all, and agrees that JKR (Or possibly ALL GC feminists) is a terrorist?

And as for Owen Jones and the rest of them, I actually cried tears of anger in the shower this morning which is ridiculous I know but I am just so angry about this.

I'm not even that annoyed with the Sun, I don't expect anything better from them, I wouldn't wipe my arse with that paper as they say. I hope that Joanne has got good people around her today though as that headline is so grim and triggering.

But most of my anger is at people like Owen Jones. Who has spent the last few days going on about how transphobic JKR is. Who read her essay, including where she talked about her own abuse, and then went straight into accusing her of 'portraying oppressed people as abusive, silencing, aggressive and violent'. Without once acknowledging or condemning the abuse, online and in real life, that she has been subjected to.

But now that he has got a chance to spout off about how much he hates The Sun? Oh now suddenly he does care about the abuse that she has suffered? The poster upthread nailed it when they said that he doesn't give a fuck about vulnerable and oppressed females unless he can use them to make his own point. He does it all the time when he talks about what a fucking feminist he is.

Nicola Coughlan is the same. She has been apparently sharing articles comparing JKR to Nazis, and not once called out the abuse that she was receiving. This was after she had read the essay. But now she will slag off the Sun and post links to DV support lines, so that everyone knows how caring and compassionate she is?

If any of the Harry Potter cast (apart from maybe Evanna Lynch who at least gave a nod to acknowledging that JKR had been receiving abuse) come out of the woodwork now to speak out in support of her because of the headline then they are disgusting hypocrites. They all threw her under the bus without even bothering to acknowledging the 'Choke on my girl dick you cunt' stuff that she was getting.

MoltenLasagne · 12/06/2020 09:45

RedToothBrush Less for sure, very impressive work.

CaraDune · 12/06/2020 09:45

Jameela self-IDs as Aunt Lydia.

"Just remember freedom to hold your own political opinions about your right to bodily autonomy is as nothing compared to freedom from the male violence that expressing those views will all too rightly incite."

PurpleHoodie · 12/06/2020 09:42

How is that #nodebate going for the transgenderists?

Iamanaubergine · 12/06/2020 09:41

All the people condemning the sun who did nothing to condemn the hideous abuse are infuriating. Top amongst them are Mandhu Reid (WEP), Sam Smethers (Fawcett Society) & Jess Phillips.

GCGayDad · 12/06/2020 09:40

Of course the activist political lobby have shared many stories of their distress and trauma and struggles. This has had a huge impact on gaining a view of their vulnerability as a community and inspiring sympathy and support. In fact it's been one of the main pillars of their campaigning. It's very interesting how they find it objectionable when someone not of their group does the same to illustrate their own distress and trauma and demonstrate the challenges faced by that community, and call this unfair and manipulative. But not when they do it.

This.

And as for the Sun's motivations for trying to show they are on JKR's side rather than the TRAs. Well, I agree that they are mainly interested in selling papers and that it's a shitrag all round.

But... Remember that article by Julie Bindel revealing The Sun has been Stonewalled and they've all had trans awareness training and agreed to run contentious articles past Stonewall or whomever? thecritic.co.uk/issues/january-2020/triumph-of-the-trans-lobbyists/

Well, perhaps the editors are using this to signal their frustration with the trans lobby, bearing in mind they now have to write about people like Karen White as "he" and describe Sam Smith as "they " and so on.

Anyway, it's just a theory but in any case this might increase sympathy for JKR and get more people interested in the issue, as others have said.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 12/06/2020 09:32

I am going to reach for more empathy than I think actually exists and say that the screaming cognitive dissonance going on in Jameela's head must be hard to live with. And that I've never seen a better illustration of the maxim about believing absurdities. And I'm not going to swear and I'm not going to say anything else because I can hardly believe what I've just read.

FantaOra · 12/06/2020 09:31

What a dreadful human being she is. It's just blind lashing out isn't it?

RedToothBrush · 12/06/2020 09:30

Omg the lack of self awareness?!

Been nearly killed by domestic abuse? Don't talk about it as that's weaponising it. Traumatised? Don't be so transphobic bigot. Just think of the poor transpeople who have endured so much worse and then have to put up with your insensitive recollections of your own past. Your life experience is irrelevant and not as important as theirs.

ForgotAboutThis · 12/06/2020 09:29

I am agog. JJ plumbs new depths.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 12/06/2020 09:28

Holy fuck Jameela. Holy fucking fuck.

twoHopes · 12/06/2020 09:28

I'm currently screenshotting all of these JJ tweets and sending them around to the women I know.

NotBadConsidering · 12/06/2020 09:28

Fuck me, it gets worse.

Weaponise? Seriously? Angry

Rowling disclosed her past experiences to show empathy with women who would feel vulnerable. It had nothing to do with trans FFS.

MingeofDeath · 12/06/2020 09:28

She’s so dense light bends round her

I love this

RedToothBrush · 12/06/2020 09:26

Is she saying JKR is transphobic AND racist?

Enderthedragon · 12/06/2020 09:24

My eyes!

So referring to Bewilderness's rules of misogyny I'd say Jameela has nicely covered rules 1-4 and 8-14 and you could probably make an argument for the rest of them. That's pretty impressive work for someone who likes to call herself a feminist.

In her 3 tweets did she use more or less characters than are in bewilderness's rules?

I'd just like to appreciate her literary work in full here.

Enderthedragon · 12/06/2020 09:21

I'm absolutely open mouthed fuming at Jameela's tweets. Christ, she really has been studying the 'Rules of Misogyny' textbook hasn't she? First and foremost:

Women are responsible for what men do.

I literally cannot believe she has written it! It's kind of horrifyingly fascinating to watch in a way?

There is no length this women won't reach to in order to gain this elusive everlasting approval from.... Well I don't even know at this point to be honest!

Michelleoftheresistance · 12/06/2020 09:21

I agree, Aesop

Emma Watson has by her actions essentially said she supports the choking of JKR on 'girl dick'. She needs to own that. So does Radcliffe and the other so woke they're hallucinating lot. This is the violent, misogynistic insanity they are standing behind. And as JJ is demonstrating, its very nasty, unbalanced stuff.

RedToothBrush · 12/06/2020 09:21

Defend your own safety women? No. That's encitement.

Take one for the team women. That way trans women can live happy healthy lives in safety.

Oh wait. What?

MoltenLasagne · 12/06/2020 09:21

1st rule of misogyny: Women are responsible for what men do.
2nd rule of misogyny: Women saying no to men is a hate crime.
3rd rule of misogyny: Women speaking for themselves are exclusionary and selfish.
4th rule of misogyny: Women's opinions are violence against men thus male violence against women is justified.
5th rule of misogyny: WATM! Women and Feminism must be useful to men or they are worthless.
6th rule of misogyny: Women who go around being female AT men by menstruating and breast feeding babies deserve punishment.
7th rule of misogyny: Women should always be grateful to men for everything.
8th rule of misogyny: Men are whatever men say they are and women are whatever men say they are.
9th rule of misogyny: Men always know the "real reasons" for everything women do and say.
10th rule of misogyny: The worst thing about male violence is that it males men look bad.
11th rule of misogyny: Basic pattern recognition skills are cruel and evil when they hurt men's feelings.
12th rule of misogyny: whatever women suffer from, men suffer from more.
13th rule of misogyny: Women are not oppressed! Rape and catcalling and objectification are all compliments, not oppression.
14th rule of misogyny: Women have all the rights they need: The right to remain silent.

So referring to Bewilderness's rules of misogyny I'd say Jameela has nicely covered rules 1-4 and 8-14 and you could probably make an argument for the rest of them. That's pretty impressive work for someone who likes to call herself a feminist.

Aesopfable · 12/06/2020 09:18

But all those supporting the threats of violence against JKR have done exactly the same as JJ. It is just slightly more blatant that what Danial Radcliffe wrote.
