Lots of people back pedalling slightly because there is nothing to be said other than that it is horrific. Outpouring of more virtue signalling.

OJ has slammed it but has disabled replies from those outside his echo chamber so people can't tell him what a bloody hypocrite he is.

I can hear the teeth clench from here.

Collidascope · 12/06/2020 10:48

I hadn't realised Grint had spoken out too.

‘I firmly stand with the trans community and echo the sentiments expressed by many of my peers.

‘Trans women are women. Trans men are men.

‘We should all be entitled to live with love and without judgment.’

It's the inanity of it. We should all be entitled to live without judgement? What does that mean?
Again, no condemnation of the "judgement" that has been going on around JKR by people too dim to even read what she said.

Why am I suddenly thinking of the rules of misogyny, Datun?

"The worst thing about male violence against women is it makes men look bad."

Datun · 12/06/2020 10:41

So Paris Lees is telling Jameela to stop as it's making them look bad.

Yeah, actual bigotry towards domestic abuse survivors will do that.

And I've just noticed that the Times article says much of the abuse towards JK is coming from people with anime characters as their avatars.

Thats an interesting turn of events. It's not a well known connection, and the implications are about sexual motivation.

CaraDune · 12/06/2020 10:41

A friend of mine has sent me the text of the article that goes with it.

The front page is beyond ghastly, and I hope JK Rowling has good people around her to support her.

But the actual article is very supportive of her, very clear that her first husband was a nasty abusive shit, and has eyewitness accounts backing up the fact that it wasn't a one-off thing (which still would have been utterly unacceptable) but ongoing and repeated.

I see this as a bit like using the screenshot of the abuse she's been getting on twitter as a click-bait lead into then getting a chance to show how utterly vile the hatred she's getting is.

And by god it's shining the brightest of bright lights on the hypocrisy of the fucknugget virtue-signallers on Twitter who're all blithely retweeting "transwomen are women" because someone, somewhere told them JKR was transphobic without having actually taken the time to read what she actually wrote.

And top of my list of fucknugget virtue-signallers are Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and Eddie Redmayne, all of whom have literally made millions off the back of her talent and are now throwing her to the wolves.

SunsetBeetch · 12/06/2020 10:38

At heart, I think Jameela really, really doesn't like other women. Before she was all woke she made some revolting comments about other women (such as Catherine Zeta Jones and Miley Cyrus).

This is just more of the same, with a woke veneer over it. Feminist my arse!

SunsetBeetch · 12/06/2020 10:37

Seems like the right time to post these again.

I started off in a rage but now I can't stop laughing at the sight of woke Twitter - wriggling and squirming because they might have been caught out on the same side of an argument as the Sun.

twoHopes · 12/06/2020 10:25

They are worse

They are definitely worse in my eyes. JKR was clearly a close friend to these HP actors and worked with them for decades. She gave them everything and they stab her in the back for woke points. Even bottom of the barrel tabloid journalists would think twice before doing that.

merrymouse · 12/06/2020 10:25

Jameela Jamil really does live in a bubble.

Does she honestly think that men who rape and murder trans women are listening to left wing feminists?

NotBadConsidering · 12/06/2020 10:24

On the plus side, all the replies to Jameela Jamil are pointing out how awful her comments are.

ValancyRedfern · 12/06/2020 10:24

So, according to Jameela. Trans women are actually raped and murdered while women are only ever threatened with it? Wtf?????

I'll leave this here: mobile.twitter.com/ashermaj

Aesopfable · 12/06/2020 10:20

why are they any better morally than a Sun journalist?

They are worse. The sun at least makes it clear and ‘confronts’ it (even if their motives are not exactly pure)

Kit19 · 12/06/2020 10:11

Honestly the number of blue ticks sounding off about the sun & pontificating about misogyny

Whilst still not seeing that encouraging ppl to pile on jkr for being a ‘Transphobe’ would be funny if it didn’t demonstrate so scarily how hard of thinking they are

RedToothBrush · 12/06/2020 10:08

News International know exactly what they're doing here and the TRAs are walking straight into their trap.

As a general rule there isn't too much coordination between news international papers in terms of editorial policy on a day to day basis.

The problem that the trans lobby have is more to do with a total lack of self awareness that an outsider will spot in an instant.

The wider context of the argument is also important. The debate is happening within a debate about abuse more generally on social media from extremists of all colours and political persuasions at the expense of reasonable debate and proper journalism.

If you are a newspaper, even one dealing in celebrity gossip, this is something important to you because your continued financial existence relies on you understanding this. The Times is modelling itself on focusing on demand for traditional journalism whereas the sun is aimed at the celebrity gossip angle so engages in the hot twitter topics of the day by taking it to the next level.

Given that every paper has run a story on the JKRowling row they were always going to run stories based on their target market.

It's entire subject has been swirling around for some time and it's a huge part of the culture war. Which again is widely posing an threat to newspapers.

Were news international newspapers suppose to ignore the subject? Reporting it / having an unpleasant scope about it does not mean some sort of coordinated conspiracy with a wider sinister plan!

OliveKitteridgeAgain · 12/06/2020 10:06

I think JKR would have expected the tabloids to track down her ex. She was one of the phone hacking victims, wasn't she? She's no fool, she would have known this would probably happen, but bravely published anyway, because she's putting herself on the line for women.

The Sun's principle goal is to sell papers (or get clicks), yes, hence the click bait headline. However, I have swallowed my loathing of the rag and read the piece, and it is very supportive of JKR. Don't forget that the person who writes the article has no control over the headline.

The piece itself paints the ex as a drug user/loser, and clearly unable to see his own violence or take responsibility for his own conduct. Whilst he dismisses his conduct as "just a slap" , the piece refers to third parties being concerned about Jo and a member of the public calling the police on him for his conduct towards her in public. So clearly the slap was no isolated incident. The piece emphasises how short lived the relationship was and that JKR got out quickly. Again, I think it is alluding to the fact that is must have been pretty intensely awful - as opposed to a single incident over the course of a long marriage, which might be dismissed as an aberration (I hasten to add, not by me, I think all women should be zero tolerance).

The piece also contains a comment from Rachel Horman from the anti-stalking charity Paladin. She praises JKR's bravery and how painful it must have been for her to speak out.

It also refers to Jo's £1m donation last month to various charities supporting domestic violence survivors and the homeless. It adds, "While she has previously kept her abuse ordeal a secret, she has used her vast fortune to help others who have suffered."

And it also links to the Ickabog and how she has been encouraging children to post their pictures.

This piece is incredibly supportive of JKR. It's a shame that the headline seems to indicate the opposite, but it has served to expose the sheer hypocrisy for OJ, Jameel and the rest.

PurpleHoodie · 12/06/2020 10:03

I didn't vote Conservative by the way.

Justhadathought · 12/06/2020 10:03

Owen Jones is just trying to be consistent is his identity as a progressive socialist or whatever it he he identifies as. He's not really concerned with the plight of abused women, or with JK Rowling.

I agree, though. So shocking as a headline. It's awful that her revelation is being used in this way.

PurpleHoodie · 12/06/2020 10:02

Pari Slees is another one.

Floisme · 12/06/2020 10:01

I think Jess Phillips has annoyed me the most this morning, which might be irrational but it's the sight of her peeping over the parapet now that the Sun are involved.

nettie434 · 12/06/2020 10:00

@Aesopfable

Why wouldn’t this vile man be proud of his actions? After all he has done when so many have threatened and what Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and others including mainstream media have implicitly supported by their support for those spouting vitriol towards JKR. All those headlines of ‘transphobic backlash’ which should have read ‘transgender activists pour violent misogynistic abuse on JKR for saying women matter’ support violence against women.
I agree with Aesopfable. Redmayne, Radcliffe and Watson all KNOW the sort of violent threats their comments would provoke yet they still made their statements, none of which called for respectful discussion or allowed that JK Rowling was entitled to hold her views. As I said upthread, why are they any better morally than a Sun journalist?
PurpleHoodie · 12/06/2020 10:00

Old boy Owen Jones:

The SHOCK, Horror and tears of the man when the Conservations won the election because he (like a lot of these lot) dismiss the "man and woman on the street" and thought Twitter represented the world.

I fucking well cried laughing over that for days. Up there with Pob Haddock doing the swivel eyes in the versus Posie interview.

Owen Jones is in no way a feminist.

Like Emma Watson and Jameela Jamil, he is a Menamist.

Enderthedragon · 12/06/2020 09:59

Paris Lees seems to changing tack a bit at the moment. This is what she wrote in reply to Jameela's delightful 'Fuck You' poem from the other day. A couple of years ago, Paris was referring to women who don't think that people can change sex as 'arseholes'.
