Emma Watson has now tweeted in support of trans activists. I can't believe it.

OP posts:

To be fair to Emma, until you properly look into it and do your research, TWAW seems kind and supportive. In many cases it still is. I just wish she'd been a bit better at how she expressed it.

merrymouse · 11/06/2020 13:49

She is a young-ish woman, who is allowed to make mistakes like everyone else.

I agree, but she is also a 30 year old UN Ambassador for women.

Evanna Lynch sounded as though she hadn't given the matter much thought, but still managed to show genuine compassion for JKR.

Emma Watson's response didn't engage with anything that JKR had said, which is a bit odd given her level of education.

Dances · 11/06/2020 13:48

That would be 'wokeness'. Not much wholeness there

Dances · 11/06/2020 13:48

Personal attacks? She reacts to her mentor and supposed friend's testimony of domestic abuse and sexual assault by supporting the side that are threatening to rape her friend. For her career and for wholeness. You don't get much more treacherous than that

Lordfrontpaw · 11/06/2020 13:46

30 - 30? Old enough to have more sense.

At that age, I was managing a team in the City, had 2 degrees and postgrads, owned my own home (earned through graft, not 'acting' - but 'an industry that is white male-dominated' nonetheless), was married and had lost my dad.

FamilyOfAliens · 11/06/2020 13:46

Note to self: never read trans threads. There are so many mean people in here

And yet here you are, still posting. Why is that?

EarlofEggMcMuffin · 11/06/2020 13:39

The personal attacks on her, leave it out please.

She is a young-ish woman, who is allowed to make mistakes like everyone else.

She is working in an industry that is white male dominated and no doubt, has to make compromises on that basis.
I do. I don't really dicuss this in real life, as it may have consequences for my work.

No cause is helped, by diminishing yourself to the level of the opposition. If they go low we go high.

hypernormal · 11/06/2020 13:34

I have no doubt whatsoever that Emma Watson, if born in a different era, would have been anti-women's suffrage, because it's just not ladylike for women to make such selfish demands of having their voices heard. Eat sh*t, Emma.

hypernormal · 11/06/2020 13:31

Emma Watson and her ilk make me ashamed to be a woman, they're an embarrassment how they claim to be feminists but are so desperate for male approval that they believe the cultish thinking that a man can magically become a woman just by saying so. Women like these make other young women look utterly idiotic. How utterly naive do you have to be to think that anyone, regardless of their being trans or not, is always exactly who they say they are. Utterly vacuous and privileged wokescolds. Actresses, models and other influencer morons who've made their money through their looks abandoning women at the bottom rung of society, who've had to live in homeless shelters and rape shelters, telling them off for daring to care about their own existence, all so they can continue to pout for money unimpended. I hate them all.

EarlofEggMcMuffin · 11/06/2020 13:27

Standing up for women's sex based right ≠ transphobia

EarlofEggMcMuffin · 11/06/2020 13:26

Yes, so many mean people who believe that :-

you can dress as you wish,
wear as much or little makeup as you wish,
wear high heels or none,
work in child care or banking, according to your skills interests and talents,
you can sleep with whomever you wish, as long as the other person fully and knowledgeably consent to sleep with you,
be as butch or male presenting or feminine or pretty as you wish.

but you cannot change sex.

And the disadvantages that one sex experiences due to biology dictated before you are even born are real.

And, therefore the people of that sex group (women- in case it isn't obvious Hmm) have rights which cannot be given away by any person in that sex group or outside of it.

WarmthAndDepth · 11/06/2020 13:23

Should also say "Thanks, Mouse.
I actually feel faint with frustration.

stayathomer · 11/06/2020 13:21

Sorry I meant trans threads!!!

WarmthAndDepth · 11/06/2020 13:21

^They haven't the foggiest idea what a woman is.*

Look outside - could be mist, could be a woman. Impossible to tell.

Aaargh...

stayathomer · 11/06/2020 13:21

No, I mean the threads on mn aren't rational discussions, they're just people wading through slaying others

OnlyTheLangoftheTitBerg · 11/06/2020 13:11

It’s notoriously mean of women not to centre men at all times.

Michelleoftheresistance · 11/06/2020 13:09

'mean' being standing up for female needs and rights.

stayathomer · 11/06/2020 12:56

Note to self: never read trans threads. There are so many mean people in here

BatShite · 11/06/2020 12:54

I mean, its very possible to say 'I completely disagree with her, but ther misogynistic (no other word for it, when you read it) abuse she is currently recieving over this is disgusting and needs to stop.

BatShite · 11/06/2020 12:54

Not slightly surprised at this. I am slightly surprised though, that not one of these celebs has spoken about the horrific abuse JK Rowling is getting. Emma wuld, in any othe rcase, surely have ben all over that, condemning those sending death threats and telling her to choke on their ladydicks?

wibdib · 11/06/2020 12:49

Wondering if Emma is beginning to wonder about TWAW as she didn’t actually come out and say it this time - it was a much more bland ‘are what they say they are’ - which trans people will take to mean TWAW so she will not anger them but there’s just a bit of wiggle room for those that think we’ll if they say they are a transwoman that’s what they are too.

It’s not a big step I’ll grant you. More a standing on the spot. But with everyone else so keen to spell out TWAW, I think it’s great that she hasn’t immediately said that. And her second tweet is almost exactly what JKR said.

Tootsweets23 · 11/06/2020 12:31

I haven't had time to read all the comments as I'm in the middle of cleaning the bloody house, but I'm still just fuming.

Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe and Eddy Redmayne are the WORST people. All the other celebs wanging on about TWAW etc are stomach churning enough.

But these three KNOW her. They took jobs based on her work. In the two HP ones, they had their entire careers made by her. They are rich and famous because of her. They will have had meetings, dinners, parties and god knows what with her.

And they dump on her publicly. Especially EW, who did it after JK informed us all she is a victim of DV. Supposed feminist handwringy Emma Watson.

They hypocrisy, cruelty and just bloody bad manners is beyond belief.

I shouldn't expect much from actors as they are usually, with a few exceptions, vain and self regarding individuals. But this is off the scale.

And breathe. Will go back to scrubbing the lav.

BentBastard · 11/06/2020 11:54

Excellent post red toothbrush and perfectly explains the difficulty in squaring these views lacking in any reasoned analysis in intelligent people.

RedToothBrush · 11/06/2020 11:29

You can be intelligent.

But you can also be selfish and intelligent. Blinkered and intelligent. Insecure and intelligent. Self righteous and intelligent. Blinded by ideology and intelligent. Lazy and intelligent.

Being intelligent does not stop people from being immune from joining cults and lacking in self awareness.

Intelligence is a measure of IQ. It is not a measure of how you employ that IQ to the best of your ability and your ability to analysis information in an unbiased manner.

BaronessFloralBunting · 11/06/2020 11:18

At the end of the day, it gets dark. When nobody can see anything, and we're all very tired and need a good night's sleep, at that stage, transwomen are women.

At all other times, when not over tired and there is enough daylight to see clearly, TWAM. Thanks, UN!
