Just seen this on Twitter.

For those who like their Ginger Shampoo, can I suggest MooGoo.

Also, Aveeno is a good replacement for their Shea butter.

Other thoughts welcome. Feel free to suggest other ideas.

The Body Shop jumped the shark yonks ago. Superdrug quality at Clarins prices. They can leap head first in the bin. Sainsbury's do a fab satsuma range for cheap as fuck anyway.

AyeRobot · 10/06/2020 22:07

Seasidetrains Whilst you're here, can you explain why gender is more important than sex for you?

SugarMiceInTheRain · 10/06/2020 22:06

Won't be buying stuff from there again then.

MrsNoah2020 · 10/06/2020 22:06

most of my opinions on this topic have come from feeling my own gender identitiy evolve as i get older, and also from having kids and seeing how poorly the characteristics of 'male' and 'female' describe people in all their complexity.

All of us who are GC would agree that male & female characteristics do not define people in their entirety. Sex does, however, determine many of our life experiences, both biological ones (pregnancy etc) and social. A girl cannot escape FGM or forced marriage by identifying as male.

NoraEphronsneck · 10/06/2020 22:06

Wouldn't it be fun to go in there once they reopen, pile up your basket, let them ring it through till and then say no thanks and tell them why Grin

It has been an awful day from all quarters - so disappointed in Jeremy Vine on 5 - three guests and not one would go against the ideology - it was a masterclass in how to say nothing at all. Then This Morning and then again on Loose Women.

JemimaShore · 10/06/2020 22:04

The TRA's seem to be riled tonight. Hmmm

Ha - let's see if they put their money where their mouth is....tell me, do Body Shop sell beard products? All the twitter woke bros sending abuse to JK seem to have beards...

CheerfuIPotato · 10/06/2020 22:03

@Seasidetrains your womanness resides in the fact you’re a woman. HTH.

Inkpaperstars · 10/06/2020 22:03

Several family members who use body shop will never countenance the idea again! I am relieved in the sense that I never liked the perfume one of them wore.

I thought when I saw the thread title they had gone bust.

Seasidetrains · 10/06/2020 22:02

@AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken

You seem to be confused about the difference between sex and gender. You’re conflating the two. Perhaps have a little read up and then return.
lol i know the difference between sex and gender thanks. i'm pointing out that referring only to sex is not, as far as i can see, a very useful way of defining a person.
FantaOra · 10/06/2020 22:02

" the 1930s you couldn't choose with such freedom which gender you identify with, and now you can."

This language of identity has been invented by men to explain their transvestitism in a way that it can be sold to gullible people as a human right.

LookAtTheCahhOlivahhhhh · 10/06/2020 22:01

Gender is the stereotype that women like pink and skirts, and men like cars and blue.

Sex is the actual differences between males and females. The differences between their chromosomes, genitals, and the differences which become more apparent as we grow: average height, strength, ability to produce small or large gametes.

You cannot change your sex, and women and girls deserve dignity in having their own spaces and rights. Women cannot rape, they do not have a penis.
That does not mean that they are men without penises, a penectomy does not turn a man into a woman.

Is that simple enough for you, @Seasidetrains?

Willow2017 · 10/06/2020 22:00

they don't blindly follow jk rowling in belitting trans people

Oh get your facts right or would that spoil your 'cause'?
JK has never belittled trans-people quite the opposite in fact if you even bothered to read her tweets.

Crazycatlady83 · 10/06/2020 21:59

How do you decide what sex is defined by?

That will be the XX chromosome .... HTH

FantaOra · 10/06/2020 21:59

No one has a woman-ness located anywhere. You are on a feminist board. Get a grip.

Seasidetrains · 10/06/2020 21:58

also i can't figure out how to make things bold apparently.

AyeRobot · 10/06/2020 21:58

Seasidetrains You can, along with all your fellow gender followers, crack on with prioritising the gender of people. The rest of us who recognise that that sex is the reason for discrimination of women, with gender being the mechanism, will continue to centre women in our feminism.

Hilarious that any retailer would alienate the very people that spend money on their product when we are heading into a recession. Bye bye 👋

Seasidetrains · 10/06/2020 21:58

*You are making the age old mistake of assuming the current generation invents everything and understands everything better than people before them.

Saying "this point" really just directs us to your own beliefs that you have now in this moment, and that are just floating there oblivious to the history of the liberation of women. Your entire post is cliche after cliche of US uni gender studies dogma, likely written and repeated endlessly by the old man professor of women's studies smile the Body shop are promoting in their patronising mansplaining tweet. That you are so soaked in this men's rights movement language and are here to berate women for the men is sad enough, but the fact that you can't see it is sadder.*

at no point have i berated women. i'm a feminist. i don't agree with what rowling says and think it will cause a lot of pain for other people, but i haven't at any point said anything derogatory about her.

i don't really undesrtand why you take issue with me saying 'at this point'. in, say, the 1930s you couldn't choose with such freedom which gender you identify with, and now you can. or am i misinterpreting what you're saying?

i'm an academic, but not (at all) in the gender studies field. i've read some of the material but not much. most of my opinions on this topic have come from feeling my own gender identitiy evolve as i get older, and also from having kids and seeing how poorly the characteristics of 'male' and 'female' describe people in all their complexity.

macaroniandpizza · 10/06/2020 21:57

How cuntish of them to do that to jk rowling after she opened up about her experience of dv. Yet their pinned tweet says they support dv victims... seems they do unless your jk rowling 🙄

Jkslays · 10/06/2020 21:57

Have they taken the post down? I can’t see it any more..

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 10/06/2020 21:56

My comment was to Seasidetrains

Seasidetrains · 10/06/2020 21:52

'You have kids? How did you know between you and your partner which one of you was going to get pregnant?'

i'm the only one that currently has the equipment, yes, but i don't see why that should define my identity.

like, which precise bit of me is my 'woman-ness' located in? i guess that's the logical end to this argument that interests me. if we can't point to it, it makes me strongly think that it isn't really there.

FantaOra · 10/06/2020 21:50

Seasidetrains
not sure why people need to police identities so much. gender is more fluid than society has admitted up until this point. that's changing and i'm really glad about it.

NotTheOnlyPomInTheVillage · 10/06/2020 21:50

Can anyone recommend something to brighten dull skin?

Waratah Flower Brightening Cream.

Pinkyyy · 10/06/2020 21:48

I'm not usually one to 'boycott' brands, but this has done it for me. I won't be buying from them anymore.

It's a shame because they have some amazing skincare products. I'd gone off them anyway to be honest because they seem to have become an MLM.
