The response overwhelmingly negative Not just on twitter but in the celebrity world in the media on forums.
No matter where you go tonight In the online world there won’t be much support for her at all

Sexnotgender · 10/06/2020 20:48

Don’t know if anyone noticed but on Twitter the TRA’s have screenshot the MN post with JK email so they will be flooding it with hate as we speak.

Shit🙁

Ah, shite Sad
AnnaNimmity · 10/06/2020 20:47

I think it's great. I worried that she was retreating over the last couple of days.

And of course she can afford to do this. It's difficult for the rest of us.

I have tweeted publicly (and it could cause me issues with my job). But you know? It's important.

They’ve essential said - Sorry you were sexually assaulted, why not have a bath and get over yourself, bigot?

Pretty much. With a smug, educate yourself undertone.

CaveMum · 10/06/2020 20:45

A wonderful piece of writing.

And agreed, let’s hear if for @MNHQ you put up with a lot over this and we appreciate it.

SophocIestheFox · 10/06/2020 20:45

Well, I’m not usually one for a knee jerk boycott, but I’ve just broken up with the body shop over email. Can’t believe how awful that response is.

CupoTeap · 10/06/2020 20:45

Thank you Jo

JamieLeeCurtains · 10/06/2020 20:43

I thought the Body Shop was iffy from way back with all the cultural appropriations and Anita Roddick on that TV advert saying 'I go into tribes ...' like a colonial adventurer.

I guess their wokey PR staff don't mind the cultural appropriation of 'Women' either.

MiddlesexGirl · 10/06/2020 20:41

Also in tears here.
My daughter's friendship group at school was almost entirely lesbian or non-binary. JK is spot on about peer pressure.
Thank you for speaking out for all of us in such a reasoned and eloquent way.

boatyardblues · 10/06/2020 20:41

That is a wonderful essay, though it saddens me that JKR has had to disclose her own abuse to contextualise her concerns. She is simply magnifcent. 💐

Prinstress · 10/06/2020 20:40

I’m part of the “bookstagram” community and this has really rattled me. The response to Jo’s words is just, sickening?

Ive cried so much over this tonight. I’m scared to speak out on my “platform” in support of her, for fear of being doxxed or inundated with hateful DMs, from people I’ve considered my (online) friends for years.

There is not a single person on her side over there from what I can see. I feel like deleting my account.

How can people not see she is making a completely sane, sound argument for the protection of safe spaces for women?

I’m devastated.

MaleficentsCrow · 10/06/2020 20:40

I am in genuine disbelief, I think my allies in my personal life are going to be the military men I know 😯

They are sharing it, they are agreeing, one even said "I stand by my wife to feel safe in spaces" another said "my Mrs and kids should be safe at their most vunerable time"

The Independent, NZ Herald so far have kicked out some hateful opinion pieces in response.

Equating radical Feminism with white supremacy, for example.

SisterWendyBuckett · 10/06/2020 20:38

Ironically, radical feminists aren’t even trans-exclusionary – they include trans men in their feminism, because they were born women.

As the mother of a daughter taking testosterone, I centre my child in my feminism every single day.

Thank you JKR - the clarity, intelligence and courage of your words have brought me to tears.

You are truly awesome Thanks

notheragain4 · 10/06/2020 20:34

I wish I could share this on Facebook. I'm so scared of the backlash.

SirVixofVixHall · 10/06/2020 20:34

This. How ironic.

I cried too. I identified with what she wrote in this phenomenal essay. Respect to JKR Thanks

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/06/2020 20:31

@LouHotel

Justine and mumsnet just to say you deserve all the credit in the world for weathering this storm and I'm so glad you wont have to do it alone anymore.
Hear Hear @JustineMumsnet @MNHQ
Jintyfer · 10/06/2020 20:31
That Independent piece was still not very supportive and how rude of them to give Luna the last word in criticising Jo. What is it with the reporting of this in the MSM over the last few days. The articles are just cut-n-pastes of tweets and opinion, where has the journalistic integrity gone? Was there ever any and we're really just seeing the lack of it now? I despair.
SophocIestheFox · 10/06/2020 20:30

She’s fab. That article is terrific.

teawamutu · 10/06/2020 20:30

@ShinyFootball

So JK shares her intently personal history of DV.

Body shop offers her a bath bomb to get over it. Essentially.

Yeah fuck you body shop. No more money from me.

A bath bomb and a book about trans rights.

Fuck them. FUCK them.
