Looks like Tim Minchin is testing the water...

I'm sneaking this in here because I didn't want to create a lot of noise for obvious reasons but there are some wonderful and kind people who have been making an effort to reply to some of the tweets with drawings sent to JKR that she can't respond to herself.

Funny cartoon from Sandy here....
Best. One. Yet.Grin

Think about all the men over the years that suddenly claim to care about women's rights because they now have a daughter.
They didn't care because it didn't affect them.
The effort of post modernists to teach people to see everything as individual and isolated incidents instead of patterns of behavior across a society is partly responsible for this, I think.

ItsLateHumpty · 14/06/2020 02:39

Grin Sandy is epic!

I’m actually pretty impressed by the twitter bannings.

Fuck up some TERFs - fine
Correctly naming male genitalia or use of pronouns - bad
Twitter - made by men, for men. Such as it ever was.

Joss Prior aka the 'poncho whisperer' 😂

Ouch poor Ron.

@SunsetBeetch

I haven't read the Cormoran Strike books yet (but I'm definitely going to now), but I'm willing to bet the 'transphobia' has been twisted too. Particularly as this all seems to have come from Joss Prior and Katelyn Burns (a certain fruity website has info on KB... that's all I'm saying).
Joss Prior aka the 'poncho whisperer' is just another keyboard warrior with ideas above their station, whose only activism is finding women to bitch about online - women who are actually making a difference, such as JKR and have ten times the courage and integrity that JP and his misogynistic cohorts could ever hope to have.

Bit of a tragic character really.

(here endeth the lesson)

@MaleficentsCrow

Well I must have one of the shortest experiences on twitter ever. I decided to join up last week, and in a response to Jam I said "sticks and stones will hurt my bones, but a penis in my changing room will always offend me" I got banned 😂😂
I got an immediate ban for apparent 'misgendering'

No mention of genitalia whatsoever....

DannyGlickWindowTapping · 13/06/2020 18:47

Shock. They can ban you for that? I don't have an account, but read threads from links on here. Maybe it was the word "penis". I see "lady dick" in lots of vile threats - maybe that's the approved term. I am quite impressed, tho. A complete ban for 1 innocuous tweet! Is this a record?

This move is spitting in the face of those who fought to the death for lgbtq+ rights

She's fine with spitting in the face of the women who died so she could be educated, work, and spout her shite freely though.

hypernormal · 13/06/2020 16:30

...she clearly also has reading comprehension problems. As if JK Rowling's problem was 'who is allowed to say they have a period'. She's like a school bully, down to the envy of JK Rowling for her talent, wealth and greater platform.

hypernormal · 13/06/2020 16:27

Jameela Jamil being catty about JK Rowling again.

twitter.com/jameelajamil/status/1271586754030481409

You'd think that after her 'asking for it' victim blaming tweet she would have learned perhaps that her she ought to live up to her 'feminist in progress' subheading and do a little reflection on this, but no, there's obviously more likes to milk from the abuse of a domestic violence and sexual assault victim yet.

YourVagesty · 13/06/2020 12:37

I hope I'm not being overly optimistic but I think the tone is shifting. I had a read around online last night and this morning and 90% of what I'm seeing, from journalists, celebs and normal people is support for JK and condemnation of Daniel Radcliffe et al. Even LOJ was being put on his place last night (see Robert Webb's tweet and the thread that followed).

There are still vocal people on Twitter but who are they to dominate the debate? What are their qualifications, where's the social proof of their authority?

It reminds me, in a way, of the hysterical Corbynites the morning after the Tory landslide in December, still screeching that Corbyn was loved by most of the country, and that he was more popular etc. Demonstrably not - but their fury and conviction overruled their sensibilities. I reckon it's the same group, more or less. The bullying and hectoring far left.

Needmoresleep · 13/06/2020 10:29

Beamur, I don't disagree. It's just my explanation for why men don't get involved.

And yes hypernormal, I find it depressing. We are asking the men we know, the men we trust, to stick up for us. But they won't.

Indeed Daniel, Rupert and friends are going out of their way to stab JKR in the back.

hypernormal · 13/06/2020 10:23

Needmoresleep I agree with your analysis, to an extent. I think a lot of the same type of men you describe also belittle the issue though, as though it's transwomen and women 'squabbling' amongst themselves, so that they can avoid getting involved. In any case, it's pretty cowardly and quite depressing that they are so spineless, but I think a lot of women are also guilty of the same thing.

Beamur · 13/06/2020 10:22

Needmoresleep
Not many people would disagree with that. But it's not about individuals, it's about men and women as a sex class. Men offend with regards to assault and sexual offences at a much higher rate than women. It makes sense therefore to have some places which are single sex for the safety of women.

Needmoresleep · 13/06/2020 10:01

My own view, but I find that attaching labels to all and sundry is simplistic. I can think of men who happily work for a woman boss, who happily share childcare, and housework with their female partners, and who happily see that partnership as a union where both have different, equally valued, skills.

They get on fine with other men, talking sport, and politics and whatever. And have no problem with what other people, male or female, do in the privacy of their bedrooms. But they do find male flamboyance disturbing. But know enough to accept people are different and not to judge.

Women instead see men wanting to self ID into their spaces as threats.

I would guess that the same may exist amongst women. Especially the cool girls who appear to be uncomfortable with those who present in a more masculine way.

My impression that many men can relate to the free speech issues. They don’t have a problem but clearly women do. So women should be allowed to express their views. I think that is where people like James Kirkuk and Douglas Murray come from.

I am not defending men. But a bit like women being labelled terms or homophobes, or labelling all white people racists, labelling all men as misogynists is not helpful. People are not perfect, but most strive to be good.

Clymene · 13/06/2020 09:42

But that is misogyny NeedMoreSleep. Men are uncomfortable because they hold women in such contempt that they find any man wanting to be one horrifying. AGP men are often into sissification. They also hold women in contempt but get aroused at the idea of it

Michaelbaubles · 13/06/2020 09:29

Well, if TWAW, that means they’re not men; and if they’re not men, then they’re not men’s problem, they’re women’s problem. Suits men very well if TWAW.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 13/06/2020 09:29

Men have fuck all to lose. It's the new trendy way to hate us.
Just like transing young girls is the new socially acceptable self harm.

Needmoresleep · 13/06/2020 09:25

I may be flamed for this, but suspect in many cases it is not misogyny, but a sense of unease around non gender typical men.

Not homophobes, but the ordinary boring, don't show your emotions, sort of man in a M&S suit on the 8.15, who would view themselves as educated, tolerant and liberal.

They have no particular problems with women, and indeed will recognise that in some circumstances, women can have a better skill set. But equally can be mystified by what they seen as female behaviour.

This bafflement can also extend to flamboyant gay men. It's beyond their comfort zone. So rather than judge, they avoid, but because they are open minded and tolerant they accept that people are different. So if men want to wear dresses, they shrug their shoulders and ignore. They do not get involved. They do not understand why women cannot show similar tolerance.

Clymene · 13/06/2020 09:25

Thread by a prison manager on criminals misusing self ID: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1271170904379265025.html

Incidentally, the GRA reform committee did take evidence on prisons which said that men would use self ID in precisely this way. They ignored it which is why so many women are now at risk in prison despite the fact that self ID is not law in the U.K.

Clymene · 13/06/2020 09:06

You're surprised men are misogynist? Really?
