Oh and for any of you still interested, a writer in the Irish Times (no relation of the Times of London as I've already noted) sighs at JKR and her lack of understanding that the rights of Trans people does not impugn the rights of women - so there, got it????? It really is a case of sticking their fingers in their ears and saying La, La, La while the rest of us watch Rome burn.

DeRigueurMortis · 12/06/2020 13:49

Because to say anything other than TWAW is seen to be hateful.

The impact of that on women and girls isn't something the woke/activists give any thought to in general but when they do they are at pains to say that not being fully accepting is bigotry.

They also centre their views around being sympathetic for people suffering with gender dysphoria and have a mental picture of men who pass and have transitioned in their heads when thinking "trans".

What they ignore or fail to consider is how broad the definition of trans is now where many men make no effort to transition other than clothing/make up and of course the elephant in the room which is AGP.

Many people including myself are equally sympathetic to people genuinely suffering from GD but recognise that doesn't represent the whole trans community which is exactly why self ID is a bad thing that can be abused by those minded to do do (trans or otherwise).

StayinginSummer · 12/06/2020 01:04

What is strange to me is how reasonable and non hateful JK Rowling comments were. They were part of a healthy debate.

Why is this piled on as if she’d said something absolutely hateful? I don’t get it? There must be people out there who do say hateful things agains Trans, which must be awful. However, why focus on comments that clearly were not hateful?

Sometimes I think the world, is a bit mad!

DeRigueurMortis · 12/06/2020 00:57

But maybe he has done really well and I missed it...

Nope....

His subsequent acting career is a good reflection of his talent.

His wealth and platform is entirely built on him being in the right place at the right time and having the right look for a child role.

Being kind it might be said he's chosen "smaller" indie roles - but the truth is aside from being Harry he's not a bankable or talented actor.

fluckityfluckfluck · 11/06/2020 18:44

Whoop

Lordfrontpaw · 11/06/2020 17:46

I assume there's money coming from royalties and shrewd investments.

leeloo1 · 11/06/2020 17:45

@DeRigueurMortis - sorry I should have looked up Daniel Radcliffe's net worth before posting... I was judging by the fact he didn't seem to have done that well since HP, so needed to find work. But maybe he has done really well and I missed it...

bluebluezoo · 10/06/2020 21:47

I identify as Daniel Radcliffe. I am a TransDan.

Daniel is doing CisDan wrong. He needs to shut up because I am Daniel and what I say is right.

OVienna · 10/06/2020 21:44

I agree with this editorial. I'll read the comments tomorrow. As an aside, Trevor Phillips wrote a great piece yesterday. Comments rather less than heartening.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 10/06/2020 18:32

Bold fail

Whatsnewpussyhat · 10/06/2020 18:32

Clever Grin

I'm surprised nobody has followed up all those suck my lady dick and stank pussy tweets to do a follow up story on actual hate speech*

unfortunately misogyny isn't hate speech.

DeRigueurMortis · 10/06/2020 18:26

Maybe he will get eaten by one in the rewrite?

I'd settle for Newt-erd Wink

Lordfrontpaw · 10/06/2020 17:48

@Whatsnewpussyhat

Unfortunately he is mostly likely already contracted to be in the rest of the Fantastic Beasts series.

Gobshite.

Maybe he will get eaten by one in the rewrite?
Lordfrontpaw · 10/06/2020 17:46

@CourtneyLurve

Brilliant.

This is by far my fave comment. Grin

I’m sure it wasn’t that EW. She seems a bit wokey.
TorkTorkBam · 10/06/2020 17:45

Surely someone in the media has called Daniel and asked him why he hasn't objected publicly to all those vile messages to her. She gets scolded for a little joke. He feels no need to say anything to
challenge seriously nasty abuse.

TorkTorkBam · 10/06/2020 17:42

It's great to see a proper newspaper defending free speech.

I'm surprised nobody has followed up all those suck my lady dick and stank pussy tweets to do a follow up story on actual hate speech.

Beamur · 10/06/2020 17:27

Will his principles extend to declining Fantastic Beasts I wonder?

DeRigueurMortis · 10/06/2020 17:26

Or does within minutes

Unlike the HP movies that were adapted for film by screenwriters, JKR is the screenwriter for the FB films.

So when I say she's in charge of the script, it's not just that she has a right of veto over it like she did for the HP films, rather she actually writes it personally Grin

MyOwnSummer · 10/06/2020 17:26

Brilliant article from the Times - regardless of where you stand on the Trans issue, this is a free speech issue. You do not have the right not to be offended, period. Freedom of speech is not there to protect the right to say "cats are cute" - it is there to protect people who say things that you may not wish to hear.

As another poster put it (sorry forget who) there are two further important considerations outside of the trans debate:

  1. Man explains to woman that she is doing feminism wrong.
  2. Man seeks to apologise on behalf of the errant woman.

Those things are really not OK. Imagine if a white actor decided to publicly chide the leaders of BLM, apologise for them and tell them that they are doing anti-racism wrong?

His statement was one of the most arrogant, patronising things I have ever seen. Again, regardless of the trans issue it is not anyone's place to speak for or apologise for another adult who clearly knows there own mind.

I don't buy the argument that he should keep quiet because of the fact that he starred in the films of the books she wrote - not at all, he is perfectly entitled to his own view. Many women like what he said because they believe TWAW but really - do they actually want men to speak for us and over us about women's issues? Really?

ConcreteUnderpants · 10/06/2020 17:12

True, but she's still responsible for the script wink.
Or does within minutes!

Feeling this is quite similar to the No Outsiders program where I had lots of friends on Facebook supporting it because everyone has a right to love whoever they like etc. It’s like a little bit of knowledge is very dangerous, and people just take a smidgen if what is actually being said and jump on the woke bandwagon without actually being aware of what it actual means.

LouHotel · 10/06/2020 17:11

No surprise on ER, every time a celebrity posts their thoughts there’s 100’s comments supporting JKR.

Let’s see him break his fantastic beast contract.

DeRigueurMortis · 10/06/2020 17:07

What's interesting is they don't say why she's wrong - just that she is.

Unfortunately he is mostly likely already contracted to be in the rest of the Fantastic Beasts series.

True, but she's still responsible for the script Wink.

Imagine a scene with a young McGonagall explaining to Newt why a wizard/witch using transmogrification to turn into a cat doesn't make them a real cat..Grin

Whatsnewpussyhat · 10/06/2020 17:02

Seems even worse when it's people who know her so well too.

CadburysTastesVileNow · 10/06/2020 17:01

Gosh, Eddie, now why didn't you leave your Danish Girl role for a transwoman to play?

ITonyah · 10/06/2020 16:59

How can they want to be on the side of the people who replied to JKR on Twitter?!
