My BIL who works at our local store has just received this information, he thinks Asda's gone mad. Asda are also funding Diversity Role Models with £100,000 over the next year. Looks as though they're jumping in with both feet.

Asda's new pronoun badges for staff

"that womxn over them there, ze told me the pot noodles were in aisle eight, but they're not here"

heartsonacake · 08/06/2020 19:32

@WrathFaeKlopp

heartsonacake He shouldn’t have shared this information with you, and you most certainly shouldn’t be sharing it on the internet. He can get severely disciplined for sharing company information meant only for colleagues

Do you actually think that? Grin

I don’t need to “think” it. I’ve seen it happen.
Enderthedragon · 08/06/2020 19:31

The 'ask me my pronouns' thing - do people honestly think that other people care what their pronouns are? You don't even need to use pronouns when you are addressing someone directly anyway.

'Excuse me, where can I find the pot noodles please?'

'I think they are in aisle 8'.

'Thanks very much'.

It’s customerphobic to try to drag me into this crap.

SeriouslySoDoneIn · 08/06/2020 19:30

Looks like I’m switching to Aldi! Tired of companies trying to join in with the latest fads, idiots.

StealthPolarBear · 08/06/2020 19:30

I'm guessing that's why they've got the "ask me..." badge. For those who are men on Monday Wednesday and Fridays, and women in Tuesdays, Thursday and weekends. Saves you having to have two badges.

Thisismytimetoshine · 08/06/2020 19:29

I don't give a shiny shite what Asda worker's pronouns are? Confused
Under what circumstances would I use them?

Morred · 08/06/2020 19:28

Isn’t it transphobic to make people state their gender?

WrathFaeKlopp · 08/06/2020 19:27

It might be voluntary but I suspect people will end up feeling the pressure
Yes, its an aggressive tactic.

Enderthedragon · 08/06/2020 19:25

Seems reasonable to me. I have a friend who is a very masculine looking and sounding woman (born female, not trans or anything) who gets sick of people assuming that she's male (they do so even when she dresses in a more feminine way, it's quite astounding). There are always going to be people who are outliers, for whom asking is better than assuming

Sorry, but if I was that woman, I can't see how someone asking 'so, are you are you a bloke or a bird then?' is any better to be honest!

Quite lineman

StealthPolarBear · 08/06/2020 19:19

It might be voluntary but I suspect people will end up feeling the pressure. Before long not wearing one will be seen as an aggressive act.

HermioneWeasley · 08/06/2020 19:16

Oh aye, that’s the biggest issue for Asda employees - not the enforced contract changes, the closure of staff canteens, the equal pay claim, the union busting by Walmart.....

Trying to think in what scenario these would be necessary.

zanahoria · 08/06/2020 19:10

You don't get this twaddle in Aldi or Lidl

LinemanForTheCounty · 08/06/2020 19:07

I guess it saves people asking them about their collective bargaining rights.

I wonder how many staff will wear them verses how many staff will think it's a ridiculous waste of time and money.

Mrskeats · 08/06/2020 19:00

And also Walmart hardly treat their staff well.

Tulipstulips · 08/06/2020 18:58

Oh FFS.

topcat2014 · 08/06/2020 18:57

My local Aldi like to swap their badges around. Fair play to them I say.

I always chat to the staff, but do not need to pry into their lives

TheFallenMadonna · 08/06/2020 18:55

It says "for colleagues who wish to wear them".
