From the in the article.

Growing up in the seventies I got bullied a lot for being perceived as gay. I identify as lesbian as I'm female and attracted to women so it was my gender non-conformity that was being read as gay. So I thought if I don't look feminine I won't be read as gay therefore people won't pick on me.

Drummond just can't see the homophobia, the sexism, the offence. Utterly blind.

The definition of a woman/lesbian is not a man that other men pick on, ffs.

It's true, they really do not see us as even an entity in our own right. We're not human. Just a two dimensional paper cut out to lend them cover.

Kit19 · 19/05/2020 12:16

I live in hope some of my 20 something TWAW friends currently wahing about JK being transphobic might start to apply some critical thinking soon....

one of them said "i dont understand, she's so progressive about other things, how is it she's a transphobe?"

what is more likely - someone who is progressive, puts her money where her mouth is and supports equality hates trans people and wishes them harm?

or maybe just maybe she isnt a transphobe....

Datun · 19/05/2020 12:11

He claims to be a lesbian and according to the tweet believes some other stuff. The article doesn't mention his beliefs, just says he has made 'no such claims', even though he has.

Exactly. If Drummond doesn't subscribe to the rest of the ideology, that's news to me.

I read a post on his board that Jk rowling is an example of a women who is individually financially powerful and that for the status quo this is intimidating as usually tactics don't apply.

And this ^. Rowling is one of the most influential and rich women in the world. Taking her tongue in cheek 'middle-aged moment' comment, and turning it into a weapon, is all they've got.

It must be killing them.

drspouse · 19/05/2020 12:06

Ah now I read them when they came out and I was a childless 30-something.
I actually never made it to the end of the final book but I'm enjoying watching the films/reading the illustrated books/audio books with DS who is 8. I think we'll try books 1 and 2 now and wait for the others.

namechange9357 · 19/05/2020 12:02

You're never too old for Potter!

I was at uni when the first one went into paperback. My younger siblings were reading it. I thought it was kiddy.

I'm sure I'll enjoy the books with my DC when they're old enough but my heart will always belong to Diana Wynne Jones Wink

Lamahaha · 19/05/2020 12:00

You're never too old for Potter!

I'm a voracious reader but Potter was never my cup of tea, neither the books (couldn't get into them) or the movies. But I admire JK no end for writing them, and for her clearsightedness and fearlessness on the trans issue.

littlbrowndog · 19/05/2020 11:57

From twitter below

How fucking dare she ‘like’ tweets she agrees with. Burn the witch! And who the fuck died and left you in charge of what people can think? You ageist fucks.

Lamahaha · 19/05/2020 11:57

The "middle-aged moment" is clearly ageist and probably sexist too. Middle-aged women terrify some because we've got nothing to lose. We don't care if they don't approve of us in fact we quite like it. It demonstrates we have minds of our own and don't court nor care about getting male approval. That's why they are scared of us; scared of JK; scared of mumsnet!

Yes. And we (most of us) have been through the whole "young woman trying to attract men" thing and we know all the tricks, all the flattery, all the fakeness employed by men who only ever wanted to get us into bed. We can see it a mile away; we just itch to tell those girls to run! run for your life!

It's a freedom I wasn't expecting at this stage in my life, but it is so liberating -- and so frustrating to know you can't adequately warn the generations coming after us.

But men know we know, and that's why they hate us. Happy to be called prude.

Absolutely. I'm so much bolshier now than I ever was. I know what I think and why I think it. I like facts.

JKR can keep on going. Good on her.

namechange9357 · 19/05/2020 11:28

I was too old for Potter but I love the Strike books!

namechange9357 · 19/05/2020 11:27

I love how Zpink News say we asked JK Rowling for comment and she declined. Of course she declined the publication's is not even a member of the news association or whatever it is called. My kids school newspaper could ring her up and she could decline as she us within her rights. They distort everything.

That wording reads as passive aggressive, and maybe it is a bit, but the actual reason they print it is that offering JK comment is a (partial?) defence to a defamation claim.

drspouse · 19/05/2020 10:19

Penis news says Drummond hasn't claimed to be a lesbian, and to back up their story, they link to an interview where where Drummond says:

I identify as lesbian as I'm female and attracted to women

snort

MissLawls · 19/05/2020 10:14

In her latest book as Robert Galbraith - Lethal White - she has a female character who identifies as pan sexual but about whom the comment is made that she has only ever been seen with a man. I think JK is gently taking the piss there.

One of the reasons I love her books so much is that she has a great sense of humour. It's there in HP and it's there in the Galbraith books.

The "middle-aged moment" is clearly ageist and probably sexist too. Middle-aged women terrify some because we've got nothing to lose. Thank you Oldcrone I clearly made the mistake of assuming P*k news were less crap than they are

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 19/05/2020 08:47

They go after her because they (rightly) sense she's a threat to them. She's not only hugely popular and a household name but is also obviously a compassionate, intelligent and thoughtful person.
She simply doesn't fit the US religious far right conspiracy theory that they're trying to peddle.
Better for them to to try shut her down or smear her as a transphobe, because when she does speak, a lot of people will suddenly realise just how badly things have gone wrong in the trans movement.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 19/05/2020 08:39

'middle aged moment'?
They can fuck off.

AnyOldPrion · 19/05/2020 08:34

I don’t think they’ll be policing her likes any more. I think they might have brought her to a decision. Apologies for the image colour. My iPad’s not happy this morning.

'A woman believes some things we don't like! Burn her, she's a witch!'

TheShoesa · 19/05/2020 07:06

Fans also noted that Rowling's account liked another message insisting that "humans come in two, and only two, immutable sexes"

How very dare she!

FannyCann · 19/05/2020 06:54

I have no idea why they bother policing JKR and her "likes". It's not as if she has anything to lose. It's only likely to harden her resolve.

Maduixa · 19/05/2020 06:43

Of course she declined the publication's is not even a member of the news association or whatever it is called.

Correct. It is UK-based but not IPSO-regulated (Independent Press Standards Organisation). Pink News is a blog/vanity project, and that's fine - but it is completely free from any journalistic standards. Although not immune to the UK's laws on libel and slander.

testing987654321 · 19/05/2020 06:40

The message repeatedly misgendered and spread false claims about Alex Drummond,

The problem with being precise as to which bit Pink News thinks is a false claim, is that their entire article is nonsense.

If you argue that Alex Drummond is a woman and you expect others to believe you, you're so far removed from reality that a statement like "false claims" is just irrelevant.

TehBewilderness · 19/05/2020 06:01

Picking fights with celebrities is high octane click bait, and Prick News has become quite desperate.
