Didn't Rowling say something to that effect, anyway? Like, I've already got your money.

I can't remember who she said it to now.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 19/05/2020 19:19

I suggest that they buy some new ones so they can burn them a second time. The gesture is important, you know.

Yup. They should put their money where their mouth is. Grin

Coffeecak3 · 19/05/2020 19:16

My dd brought the Harry Potter books home from her school library specifically for me to read.
I read the first five, I honestly can't remember any of them or the characters.

It's like teaching Christianity, but other people saying well he's never actually said Jesus is the son of God.

There are a fair number of modern Christians who would say Jesus isn't the Son of God, even if many also would say that hardly counts as Christianity.

I'd not be comfortable with assuming, in a written context, that Drummond believes that not being sexually interested in trans persons is bigotry. I would not be surprised if that is the case, in fact if I were inclined to gamble I'd bet on it. But there are people who would argue that male born people can be "lesbians" but are not willing to police sexual attraction. If you want to say, in print, someone thinks something, you need to be able to show they've actually said it, not just that it seems to fit in with what they believe.

I would not be at all surprised if Pink News knows that he does think that way, but as long as there is no record of it, it's a bit of a gift to them to make the claim.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 19/05/2020 19:09

It’s interesting that the response to this ‘stunning revelation could be summed up as ‘meh’ whereas last time there was weeping, wailing and burning of books. I wonder if this means that people think that the bark of some protest groups is worse than their bite.

They probably don’t have any of her books left, as they burnt them all the last time JK caused literal violence towards them. Grin

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/05/2020 18:38

The author said Drummond believes it's transphobic to exclude transwomen from lesbianism (paraphrasing).

Pink News are saying that that belief has never been a claim actually made by Drummond. Which is not what the author said.

If someone who teaches the trans ideology in schools is saying that it's not transphobic to exclude transwomen from lesbianism, then that's the first time I've ever heard it.

Yes. And Drummond, who as a male identifies themselves as a lesbian, is on the Stonewall trans advisory group. Do we really think that would be the case if Drummond believed that lesbianism could be about biological same sex attraction, rather than same gender identity?

Roseburn · 19/05/2020 17:16

Are J.K Rowling books available on Audible - or even on Audible's parent company Amazon? I wonder.

Datun · 19/05/2020 17:04

Goose, Drummond claims to be a lesbian and claims to bring out the inner lesbian in women, and goes into schools to teach kids.

That claim is verifiable.

A man..who has a penis...is attracted to women

I’m baffled as to how that makes him a lesbian Confused

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 19/05/2020 16:46

So JKR 'misgendered' Alex Drummond?

She has eyes...

Goosefoot · 19/05/2020 16:43

Exactly. If Drummond doesn't subscribe to the rest of the ideology, that's news to me.

I'm getting confused now.

Did he actually say all the business about lesbians not wanting to have sex with transwomen being bigots, and Pink News is just fibbing/incompetent?

Jk Rowling always crops up on the Rudest celebs you've met threads on here

That’s definitely what you’d point out about JK Rowling. I means 2 weeks ago, she gave a million pounds to a homeless and domestic abuse charity. Her foundation donated £5million a year.

But she’s very rude when someone’s come across her in real life

Beamur · 19/05/2020 14:10

Fancy thinking any regular poster or reader on FWR would think this was a bad thing for a woman to be 😆*

Perfect.

Oooops

Datun · 19/05/2020 14:05

Is it now considered "progressive" to insist that children who don't conform to gender stereotypes are "really" the opposite sex?

Or children who may grow up gay.

It's a throwback to the 1950s.

It's s

OldCrone · 19/05/2020 13:56

one of them said "i dont understand, she's so progressive about other things, how is it she's a transphobe?"

Is it now considered "progressive" to insist that children who don't conform to gender stereotypes are "really" the opposite sex?

There is nothing progressive about transgenderism.

OnlyTheLangoftheTitBerg · 19/05/2020 13:23

I actually never made it to the end of the final book but I'm enjoying watching the films

Oh drspouse you must read to the end! The end of Deathly Hallows the book is so much more satisfying than the end of the equivalent film - I know they're different media and have to play to their different strengths, but Harry's speech to Voldemort at the end of the book just ties the whole thing up perfectly, much more than the film does.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/05/2020 13:09

Penis news says Drummond hasn't claimed to be a lesbian, and to back up their story, they link to an interview where where Drummond says:

I identify as lesbian as I'm female and attracted to women

Oh, Penis News, never change! In other news, of course Rowling is ignoring them, same as she would if any other random blog asked her for a comment. It's funny how convinced they are that just because they identify as real journalists it must be true.

I met her. She is just shy. Not rude. I like her

Maybe that's why she doesn't seem to give a toss what the very powerful trans lobby think of her.

Kind of Prick News to include a photo of Alex Drummond - I’d love anyone to explain how Alex is a woman or a lesbian.
