I wrote to Emma Nicholson, forwarding my correspondence with M&S, and got an encouraging reply.

She said "Thank you for your very constructive email. If we all pull together, I am confident that we will win. I will stay in touch and thank you again."

It feels good to have someone in power on our side. I have given up hoping Labour will see the light.

Thanks, Lama

I worked in a shoe shop when I was 16 and a creepy fucker used to come in late in the evening to try on knee/thigh high boots. He clearly got off on it

Ugh, I sympathise. When I worked in a cinema the young usherettes used to get hassled by some old sleazebag who seized his chance when one of us was minding the foyer alone.

Back then, if an older usherette or one of the male staff saw him they would chase him out. These days, they would be arrested if they tried to stand up for us.

It still makes my skin crawl thinking how he sleazed in looking like a snake about to swallow a mouse.

Thinkingabout1t · 20/05/2020 21:26

Could someone post the Baroness's email address here, please? My screen (or my eyesight) isn't good enough to read it from the images posted.

I'm longing to send her my ridiculous correspondence with M&S. Even while I'm mourning a shop I used to love.

Datun · 20/05/2020 20:58

They kept saying that people could use which ever changing room they felt comfortable in. So what if a man feels comfortable changing in the children's changing room?

And if challenged says he identifies as a child. Self identification has no legal basis, at all. You can self identify as what the fuck you like.

So if they are accepting self identified men/women, then they must do the same for self identified children. Pound to a penny they can't articulate why they don't.

Sexnotgender · 20/05/2020 19:57

And never mind the shop assistants who are forced to take part in their sex fantasies by witnessing them

A million times this. I worked in a shoe shop when I was 16 and a creepy fucker used to come in late in the evening to try on knee/thigh high boots. He clearly got off on it and management did nothing about it.

Thinkingabout1t · 20/05/2020 19:53

I'll email the Baroness. Good to know someone is on our side.

Like many others, I wrote to M&S and got the standard "yes dear, now piss off" reply: "As a business, we strive to be inclusive and therefore, we allow customers the choice of which fitting room they feel comfortable to use ..."

Never mind the women who don't feel comfortable hearing men making sure we know they're trying on bras. And never mind the shop assistants who are forced to take part in their sex fantasies by witnessing them.

I wrote back "I would not feel at all comfortable seeing men in the women’s changing rooms. Surely the majority of your customers are women, most of whom would feel the same way, especially if they have children with them. Women like women-only facilities because they are safe for both women and children."

i included a link to a Sunday Times investigation showing that most assaults on women in changing rooms are carried out by men in mixed-sex facilities.

Needless to say, I never heard a word back.

Angryresister · 20/05/2020 19:53

I got the letter with attachments too.... The Baroness has certainly been using her time under lockdown. So glad to the question about hospitals.

Sexnotgender · 20/05/2020 19:52

That tweet is pathetic.

Totally. What “Emily” needs to realise is that no one thinks they are a threat. However equally their wants do not override the needs of other children and they can’t just barge into sex segregated spaces that belong to the opposite sex.

WTFSeriously · 20/05/2020 19:15

What the Baroness is doing is exactly what women have been working hard to secure for quite some time - someone with a solid working knowledge of the power structures & the ability to grasp the issues, as well as ask pointed, well evidenced Qs to key & influential people. And openly too.

I frankly couldn't care less what her political leaning are/were, she's listened & asked questions & is getting shit done. Bravo to the Baroness Wine

The TRAs are now weaponising children

That tweet is pathetic.

Clymene · 20/05/2020 18:20

Not just weaponising any old children either but their own children Sad

entirely unworkable policy'

I think this is another iteration of 'if men want to ignore and violate women's boundaries, they will, and you can't stop us, ha ha ha ha.'

That's exactly what it is. How are you going to stop us, eh? eh?

Backing it up with you don't know what's in their pants, and what about butch women or transmen?

Exposing, in one fell swoop, their utter determination to violate women's boundaries, rather than obey the culturally acceptable rules.

And if a mistake is made, then a mistake is made! Why do they think it's the end of the universe??

They genuinely think that calling someone the wrong sex is a hanging offence.

Sexnotgender · 20/05/2020 13:16

Entirely unworkable policy? You mean the same policy that worked ABSOLUTELY FINE for years whereby males go into one fitting area and females the other?

I know it’s maybe a little complex for him to understand but it seems straightforward enough.

FloralBunting · 20/05/2020 11:47

'Conflating two entirely separate pieces of legislation'

Having a thorough knowledge of the actual law rather than soundbites cropped from Stonewall agitprop literature? Indeed.

'entirely unworkable policy'

I think this is another iteration of 'if men want to ignore and violate women's boundaries, they will, and you can't stop us, ha ha ha ha.'

Either way, nul points, Brains. Try sticking to that prepackaged question thing you've been reading on the 111 phone line.

Tell me there isn’t an agenda to sexualise children.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news...

sourdoughismyreligion · 20/05/2020 11:04

Yes I got that too. It's horrifying how badly the Equality Act 2010 has been misrepresented. The next bit she highlights from the NHS mentions people who live permanently or temporarily in a gender role which does not conform to their natal sex. I'd really love to know what they mean by that. What is the gender role which conforms to the female sex?

SirVixofVixHall · 20/05/2020 10:54

She is wonderful isn’t she ? Will be interesting to see their response to that !
The 11 year old girl being given homework on hardcore porn is horrifying. Tell me there isn’t an agenda to sexualise children. Hmm

Lamahaha · 20/05/2020 10:45

Her letter to Matt Hancock concerns single sex wards and contains attachments illustrating how the "NHS Guidelines contained in its Annex B are significantly divorced" from legislation of the Equality Act 2010.

She has tweeted this letter and attachment here:

Lamahaha · 20/05/2020 10:15

I've just received the email reply from Ms Willmott, with five attachments: the already posted reply to M&S chairman, a letter to Ms Truss, a letter to Matt Hancock, a list of questions regarding single sex wards to the Department of Health and Social Care, and the short debate by Lord Lucas from February regarding single sex toilets.

She's really digging in her heels. Sunlight! Grin

Some of the replies to her are hilarious. I can feel the impotent rage from here at a strong woman who can’t be bullied.
