I have been lurking on twitter lately and noticed Baroness Nicholson has been very active recently. Amongst her tweets are quite a few gems - letters to Liz Truss, tweets asking for evidence about Stonewall’s involvement CPS guidance just to name two.

This tweet I found very encouraging too.

It is imperative to restore the rights of women.I foresee a single issue, cluster approach;we make a new Women’s Rights movement lasting one year, solely to rescue womanhood from its destruction through today’s legal and social denial of our existence.Emma,BNoW

She has today written to Liz Truss again but this time with her concerns about the gross misinterpretation of the ECHR in the trans toolkits used in schools and recommends that such toolkits are removed from use now. Such support is great news.

I will try to post the letter for those not on twitter.

I look forward to seeing what what happens next.

As a subject, purity spirals have been well discussed here on MN. I think this is a good example. It is obvious there has been miscommunication here. The Baroness has expressed a desire to discuss it. Twitter is truly not a place to have that discussion in my opinion, if it were me I would do it offline and with more than a few hundred characters to make sure that there was no more miscommunication issues.

However, communication has to be two way in this instance and if one party doesn’t which to participate, so be it. Accept it and move on. Don’t then make your ‘group’ have to choose. It is not a playground and splitting into factions does not help anyone in the long run.

Let's hope she puts this one down to sometimes you're just not going to be able to resolve an interpersonal conflict and moves on, because we need her to keep doing exactly what she has been doing. There's no reason people can't also help her come to a better understanding of why what she tweeted upset so many women, it's not an either/or situation.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 23/05/2020 13:59

This particular thread demonstrates that countless women on twitter are asking her to ignore the infighting and move on. It's very frustrating when individual egos get involved and try to dominate the narrative but twas ever thus. That's why their single mindedness can be so successful elsewhere.

Some feminists on Twitter have complained about the Baroness' comments about - as far as I can tell - domestic violence survivors.

From what I can see she made one single tweet which said 'Crazy to remain' about someone living with an abuser.

twitter.com/narcabuserehab/status/1182568554325008384

She had loads of replies which explained why this was an inappropriate comment and she apologised to the person she had replied to.

But they won't let go. She has to be cancelled. As someone on there has said, no amount of grovelling apologies will ever be enough.

Datun · 23/05/2020 13:59

Jesus wept, I hope she didn't mean that she would pull out.

We've finally got someone with power and insight and the will to use both.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 23/05/2020 13:53

Some feminists on Twitter have complained about the Baroness' comments about - as far as I can tell - domestic violence survivors. I can't see exactly the tweets concerned, but it seemed that the Baroness offered to withdraw entirely from the subject of women's rights if she was hurting the cause. I think she had been accused of being dismissive of women who stayed?

From what I can see now, other people are encouraging her to continue. So hopefully she'll apply the same lightly held determination as she has done so far.

boatyardblues · 23/05/2020 13:50

Why do the TRAs’ work for them?

Kit19 · 23/05/2020 13:45

arghhhhh FFS!

do people never learn?

the baroness has done more to shine sunlight on this in a fortnight than many others have been able to do in several years. the reasons of that is because she is who she is - she has clout and she's not afraid. godsake why do people do this?

ScapaFlo · 23/05/2020 13:45

What's happening? I'm not on Twitter

Fishdoggy · 23/05/2020 13:39

I see the usual cohorts are circling the Baroness like jackals.

How dare they!

I am so angry. Park their bloody egos up their backsides.

The Baroness DID apologise and try to build bridges. Of course she was rejected, She's too successful and the "wrong" political party for others to want to see her make a difference to all our lives

She's done more in 3 short weeks than those others have in years of self satisfied blogs.

I saw what happened to Posie Parker and it was DISGRACEFUL. I
can't bear to see it happen to another good woman.

Who needs TRAs when these "feminists" will work against any woman getting the adulation they lust for.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 23/05/2020 13:38

Hear, hear, Kittens.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 23/05/2020 13:37

I really wish that those currently going after the Baroness in the name of feminism would stop and think of the big picture. Work with rather than against her.

Winesalot · 23/05/2020 13:26

I think there is a risk here of stopping progress. I can see that the Baroness is willing to open communication with the people involved. If so, I can only assume she would apologize.

Surely as adults a way forward can be established ?

That letter to Ms Anonymous. ''Your recourse to ''assigned'' is a marker to ideological pedantry, detached from reality''. Just wonderful Grin

I'm going to commit that sentence to memory.

endofthelinefinally · 22/05/2020 22:53

Of course Brexit provided an ideal opportunity to ramp things up. Nobody was paying attention.

nauticant · 22/05/2020 22:52

The government went along because they perceived it as (1) appealing to younger voters and (2) being a zero-cost option. That is, any impacts would only be on insignificant areas and groups. These assumptions were valid until women starting to make enough noise for politicians to realise that this could indeed cost them.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 22/05/2020 22:49

Very true, truth.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 22/05/2020 22:39

The government have been in power since 2010. They have watched as the civil service have been regulatory captured by lobby groups and not just stood by but actively funded these awful organisations as they engaged on a wholesale exercise of targeting children in schools and young people in universities (along with sport, businesses and so on).
They are desperate that the public don't join up the dots or follow the money as more and more outrageous issues emerge via the efforts of so many women and an increasingly sceptical press.

Winesalot · 22/05/2020 22:39

Just for those not on twitter, of course the Baroness has declared her intent to keep at it and follow through.

No worries nauticant. It is quite the hot potato. As many have said on twitter, it is doubtful that the DofE is so clueless as to what is being used in schools. And as truth aptly pointed out ... it is published for all to see.

Sorry for causing confusion Winesalot I mistakenly referred to you when I should have referred to the link by digbee:

www.gov.uk/government/publications/keeping-children-safe-in-education--2

I get the sense of people backing away from a clusterfuck.

Winesalot · 22/05/2020 22:19

I am struggling on a small screen, which document is that nauticant if you don’t mind please ?

The DfE Equality Act guidance that the letter refers to (link below) not only prioritises gender reassignment out of all the protected characteristics (because of course that is the most important focus when working with children Hmm ) but the guidance specifically directs schools to GIRES along with referencing the awful Cornwall trans guidelines that advocate parental alienation (page 17)
Bullying (page 16) also generates two suggestions that schools look at the Stonewall and GIRES websites about bullying - again no other organisations are mentioned.
Apart from links to the EHRC & Gov.uk there are zero links to any other organisations in that key DfE advice about equality legislation - not in relation to race, religion, sex or any of the other protected characteristics. Only transgender lobby groups are referenced.

How the writer of that letter can claim that the DfE don't endorse these organisations defies belief. Perhaps someone on twitter could advise the Baroness that the DfE do not appear to know the contents of their own advice to schools and the extent to which trans lobby groups are being given the DfE seal of approval?
