According the 'Diva Survey' Hmm (groundbreaking research into the lives of LGBTQI women), "86% of LGBTQI women are aware of media coverage about the transphobic attitudes of a small group of lesbians". Of course this is accompanied by a quote of "trans women are women".

There are no details on how many people were interviewed or where the research took place.

Further along the Visible Lesbian 100 page there is a lovely bit of explaining that if you define lesbian as a women who is sexually attracted to other women then you are guilty of narrow and prejudiced thinking!

Honestly, I'm not a lesbian but I'm just so pissed off at this! AngryAngry

You really don’t want to see who they have as the poster person for the 100 on twitter today. Your lazy little woman eggshell skills won’t be able to take it...

As per usual then, the only lesbians that matter are the ones who are not female homosexuals? Other lesbians are nasty bigots who should learn to love cock Hmm

Michelleoftheresistance · 22/04/2020 14:38

The issue is that 'lesbian' is now a dirty word. The posts have been all over social media that any female person naming themselves lesbian is a transphobic hag, because any nice and politically acceptable female would term themselves as 'queer'. Saying you're 'lesbian' if you're female implies that you're one of those appalling people who thinks you have a right to a sexuality that excludes male bodies, which is... well, just get the kindling and the flaming torch.

The only people now allowed to say they're lesbian and be celebrated for it are males, who have systematically targeted, taken over and reconfigured everything they could find anywhere that was labelled 'lesbian' or 'women' to make the point of woman being All About Them and never allowing women to have anything at all that wasn't about them properly and virtuously centering male born people. (Hence many, many lesbian groups having disappeared off the radar and gone underground to escape.)

So there's now a double bind: lesbian now DOES mean someone male born and trans, because that's the only allowably celebratable kind of lesbian, so yes, it now means T. But also lesbian is a rather nasty, dirty word, so it's very important on lesbian visibility day to never mention lesbians . While making it clear you celebrate the T.

And this, dear reader, is how you disappear up your own arse in pursuit of trying to make a male supremacist anti-woman agenda sound like a really nice, positive, progressive thing.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 22/04/2020 14:13

Not to undermine the points made above, but I think part of the issue there is there is v little disaggregated data now.
From what I can tell anyway.
Most lesbian organisations have shut and there are only 'LGBT' ones which do research aimed at the whole quiltbag / initial soup.

I wish lesbian line were still going.

I'm sure I read a paper recently about lesbians and hate crime which said we are much less likely to report and even to identify it because we almost expect it.

Maybe it's the same with mental ill health. If we grew up on films like Children's Hour conditioning us to accept and expect miserable lives.
Or The Well of Loneliness.

Someone on the other thread mentioned the Llangolen ladies who are such a good example of happy women with boundaries.
Martina Navratilova is maybe the modern equivalent in terms of role models?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/04/2020 11:09

Really, how hard would it have been to say that poor mental health amongst lesbians linked to incidences of homophobia and sexism. Some recognition of the fact that sexism is specific to lesbians, and an additional issue compared to plain ole homophobia. No, we must be inclusive, and include all homosexuals in case the gay men get upset, and all 'women' so that TRAs don't get upset.

YY. Imagine if they did that on trans visibility day.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 22/04/2020 10:32

Men who identify as women and are sexually attracted to women are not lesbians. They're heterosexual. Lesbians are females who are same SEX attracted. Gender identity doesn't come into it.

SomeDyke · 22/04/2020 09:59

And now the NHS...........

And no one gives a fuck about actual lesbians................(the ole fashioned cunty ones who like cunt).

This visibility week though is doing a marvelous job at making very clear how lesbians are being disappeared and exactly why this is happening.................

HorseRadishFemish · 22/04/2020 08:42

...they missed out dyslexic people on that list. Oh, and folk that don't like marzipan.

On a brighter note, after all the mud slinging at the LGB Alliance this past week or so, that really culminated in John Nicolson MP accusing them of pile on, the Alliance has turned it into a positive. They asked people who disagreed with Nicolson’s tweet calling them transphobic amongst other things to donate in his name with a message that they’d tweet out.

Nicely done in Lesbian Visibility Week.

GivesNoFox · 21/04/2020 14:15

who the vast majority of people outside of this echo chamge do consider women

Only in your little woke-istan bubble dear, the majority of people on this planet are not that detached from reality as you are.

And "give it a rest?" LOL. can the Trans and gender specials not give it a rest considering they have two separate days dedicated to themselves but still have to force their way into one measly week dedicated to homosexual women, who are already last priority when it comes to LGBT activism?

Let me tell you something, I am very open about my criticisms of the modern day transgender movement with people in real life because i see the negative impact it is having on the Lesbian community and womens rights on a whole. I have spoken to many people from all walks of life, some LGBT some not and the majority of them do not see trans women as women or trans men as men, they see them as transgender at best or mentally unwell at worst.

Even the ones who are very gung- ho with their activism online. When it comes to real life, even they cannot deny material reality for too long. This is why the phrase "The left is eating itself" has become so common, because gender ideology is not sustainable in the long run for the majority of those who wish to preserve their mental health so the end result is advocates turning on themselves.

No one owes you a subscription to your ideology, we often respect chosen pronouns out of politeness and civility, but they are an accommodation, not a right. The Trans movement wants respect? Then give it back and stop colonizing celebrations that arent about you.

Lordfrontpaw · 21/04/2020 13:07

Haven't we just had Trans Day of Visibility? Did women leap all over that and demand front row tickets?

International Women's day became a 'what is a woman?' debate. Woman's History Month is just ignored at the best of time.

Pride, in fact, any LGB (as well as woman's) event becomes a showcase for T. Now whay is that - can anyone explain why this has become the case in such a few years?

HorseRadishFemish · 21/04/2020 12:59

I'm with Michelle

Every single word.

OhHolyJesus · 21/04/2020 12:55

There is another thread and lots on FB celebrating lesbians Hypatia and it would be nice if we could just do that without having to clarify what a lesbian is, or even what a woman is, but you can't you see, as we always have to establish first that we are not including men.

Whilst the pic from Pride posted above 'celebrates' lesbians whilst celebrating men it's important to separate the two.

Using phrases like 'All Women' means men who think they are woman and so it's not All Women is it? It's women and men so All Adults.

To do this is tedious and annoying but we cannot "give it a rest" as if we stop for a moment to take a breath or take a piss, we lose our language.

I say this, to cite a phrase from the ever-increasing reach of identity politics, As A Heterosexual woman, who will defend lesbians until my dying day.

Lordfrontpaw · 21/04/2020 12:37

I only know one person who considers this so - but he as a bit of a right on gaslighter and I can't see him going the distance...

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/04/2020 12:29

the vast majority of people outside of this echo chamge do consider women.

I think not. Try stepping outside of your echo chamber for a change.

Lordfrontpaw · 21/04/2020 12:07

You can't use the word 'woman' these days without certain groups rocking up (it's like a summons) and telling us what a woman is and demanding representation front and centre (whilst telling us how we are doing it all wrong).

Back off, stay in your lane (as the kids say today)

Michelleoftheresistance · 21/04/2020 12:04

Like every other week, too many people on this board are appropriate feminism as another angle to attack trans people.

Oh for goodness sake, the whole point of the damn thread is that some males have appropriated lesbianism and feminism as a means of controlling women's bodies, sexual choices, sexual freedoms and freedoms. If that isn't a feminist issue then what on earth in your opinion is? If males hadn't started this by appropriating from females in the first place, no one here would be needing to talk about it. So basically you're saying here how nice it would be if females pretended not to notice being oppressed.

Can't you just give it a rest?

Can't you? Because whingeing at women for standing up for women's rights is beyond silly really.

I would prefer to see posts of the feminism board used to support other women,

How exactly? In what? Because you're making it clear that only certain kinds of women and certain things about women should be supported - female homosexuals for example can gtf. Go start the threads discussing the things you want to talk about, and quit moaning at and trying to shame into silence women whose voices and female experience and feminist points of view aren't your personally approved ones, that's about as anti feminist as you can get really.

not tearing down groups who the vast majority of people outside of this echo chamge do consider women.

If males don't want to be told when they're trampling other people's boundaries then the answer is they need to stop the trampling. Not for the people being trampled to just lay down and accept it nicely. Homosexual women saying no to this colonisation and appalling hostile take over of their sexuality, bodies, freedoms, are not 'tearing down' when they say no. My God, could you victim blame any harder?

And as a lesbian, no. Males are not lesbians, and I thoroughly resent that males have targeted every single thing exclusively aimed at women from refuges to lesbian publications like Diva which was great in its day, and forcibly brought to centre males and males experience of being TW, while trying to suppress actual female people. (And like you, only praising female people who prioritise compliance and pats for the superior male born women.) Fuck that. Seriously. Fuck that.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 21/04/2020 12:01

I loved the pink paper in the 90s. It was the only free gay paper I could get hold of.

Before the internet was much of a thing it made me think and made me feel less alone.

Lordfrontpaw · 21/04/2020 11:55

I know someone who worked on Pink in the 90s. She was quite proud of it at the time - not now.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 21/04/2020 11:42

I might start a lesbian visibility thread on here with my favourite notable lesbians.

Diva is an embarrassment.
I remember finding it a bit earnest and political in the 90s but I wish I could have 90s Diva now with articles about social class and lesbian relationships etc.

Every time I get cross with Diva or Pink News I try and send a donation to Lesbian Connection or Rain and Thunder

Lordfrontpaw · 21/04/2020 11:37

Its Pride in London who have made the attack as far as I can see.

Support women yes, support women... 'Consider ' is not fact.

Hypatia415 · 21/04/2020 11:30

If you're going to make a post on Lesbian Visibility Week, maybe use it to raise the visibility of lesbians?

Lesbian visibility day is important. All too often women are seen through a hetero-normative lense. Today is about celebrating women who are proud to stand out and show that there are many different ways of being a woman.

Like every other week, too many people on this board are appropriate feminism as another angle to attack trans people. Can't you just give it a rest? I would prefer to see posts of the feminism board used to support other women, not tearing down groups who the vast majority of people outside of this echo chamge do consider women.

Whatever you views on trans people, lets me a post about lesbian visability day actually be about lesbian visability day.

Lordfrontpaw · 21/04/2020 10:10

It has been pointed out!

I’m glad I’m not in the office because it’s London Pride central around there (and my colleagues didn’t ‘get’ why it pissed me off so much).

Sicario · 21/04/2020 09:31

There is no T in LESBIAN.
