Julian Assange secretly fathered two children inside Ecuadorian embassy, partner reveals in bid for his release from Belmarsh amid coronavirus fears

Article in the Independent though reported elsewhere www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/julian-assange-children-ecuadorian-embassy-coronavirus-belmarsh-stella-morris-a9461251.html

Was alerted to this via facebook posts and I dont know what makes my blood boil more.

That this man has a family in Australia.

That he (and she) they should have children together in the circumstances (ie he is someone who is wanted for questioning relating to allegations of sexual abuse, that he broke his bail conditions, and ... )

That they (and it seesm the liberal press) think that by revealing these secret children it will make it more heart wrenching that being in prison means he might get the virus. What an obnoxious advantage of self regard and privilege to think you can use this arguement for your self but not bother to consider all the other prionsers this is also true for.

As someone said on facebook, can you imagine if this was a white working class couple let alone one from BME community who got press coverage for a similar story. They would be absolutely hounded in both the print press and the online press.

There seem to be no depths to which this self important w**ker will go.

my brother actually met Assange as part of that article (he’s not Andrew o’Hagan). Says he was awful.

BINtersectionalFeminism · 15/04/2020 16:48

^agreed Strange.

justdontatme thanks for sharing.

StrangeLookingParasite · 14/04/2020 23:23

That lrb article - he's just as skin-crawlingly revolting as I expected. I vaguely used to know someone who knew him, and they were narcissistic birds of a feather.

Clymene · 14/04/2020 23:06

Nothing weird or dodgy about someone who uses multiple aliases at all Hmm

stumbledin · 14/04/2020 23:05

I see from a google search that it says "Some results may have been removed under data protection law in Europe."

I think (if it isn't part of the fiction) that grew up in South Africa which is where she qualified as a solicitor / lawyer.

Though she seems to be have presented here in the UK as a researcher and writer and been published by Oxford University Refugee Studies. (as Sara Gonzalez Devant)

One rumour has it that the poor cat who was forced into confinement with Assange in the Embassy is now living with her.

FlyingOink · 14/04/2020 20:41

That's weird. Even the flying lawyer has more of a professional footprint than that.

DidoLamenting · 14/04/2020 20:03

I don't think this woman is a solicitor. I think she may have been doing legal research. She seems to have a variety of names Stella Morris / Stella Moris (or Morris) - Smith Robertson and even Sara Gonzalez Devant.

She's not currently listed on the Law Society as being a practicing solicitor (which is of course not proof that she wasn't in the past) but she has no professional Google history that I can find. Even the most unexceptional of solicitors will have something.

Mysterian · 14/04/2020 19:16

against his "human rights" to deny him a family life! - A quote from his team/him. I really don't get the attempt to use that argument. That's prison. That's what it does. It denies freedom. Does he really expect anybody who has children to avoid prison?

nauticant · 14/04/2020 18:59

Half my time here is spent supporting GC arguments and the other half is looking for opportunities to make Pro Boner jokes Prodigal.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 14/04/2020 18:00

He's saying nothing until he's seen her briefs ....his brief.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 14/04/2020 17:41

For nauticant.

ProfessorSlocombe · 14/04/2020 17:32

It might be another case of Pro Boner billing.

ProfessorSlocombe · 14/04/2020 17:31

Who is paying that bill out of interest?

Not Assange, for certain.

nauticant · 14/04/2020 17:30

It might be another case of Pro Boner billing.

FannyCann · 14/04/2020 17:18

Not sure what it is that people are seeing in him other than smug git who'll be happy to hurt people if it suits him and who apparently has some sort of moral objection to hygiene.

And don't forget the cat. He didn't look after the cat.

So she was his lawyer... there's a rude joke in there about her firm billing for time supposedly spent with the client

Who is paying that bill out of interest?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 14/04/2020 16:55

It beats me how any woman could willingly allow him to touch her. He makes my skin crawl, and that predates finding out about the sexual assault allegations. Apart from anything else, he exudes self-satisfaction and arrogance, which I can't stand.

Not just you. Even before he was confirmed to be a predator he exuded predatorial tendencies, and he seems like the kind of person who you'd constantly be fighting the urge to punch in the face. There's just nothing likeable about him, imo. Which makes it odd that he has so many devoted fans. Not sure what it is that people are seeing in him other than smug git who'll be happy to hurt people if it suits him and who apparently has some sort of moral objection to hygiene.

JA's Sponsor, Ex-President Rafael Correa of Ecuador has lately been found guilty of bribery and corruption but remains free in exile in Belgium where he seems to have plenty of money to pay the rent.

pachyderm · 14/04/2020 15:10

"Ugandan affairs" - now there's a really ancient joke! Grin

Especially funny since Mary Kenny is a thunderingly self-righteous Catholic prude these days

As a slight tangent, I don't understand the argument for releasing prisoners, surely they are better off inside where essentially they are already in isolation as a group. They aren't coming into contact with members of the public if all visitors are banned and so cannot be exposed to the virus. I don't get why a global pandemic means you get a reduced sentence effectively. Can anyone enlighten me?

You can't keep prisons hermetically sealed unless you want to lock the staff in as well. Like other high-density living quarters, like cruise ships and nursing homes, when you get one case inside it multiplies fast. One of the biggest clusters in NYC is a prison. Releasing low-risk prisoners near the end of their sentence makes sense, not just for them but for other prisoners and staff who now have more space.

justdontatme · 14/04/2020 14:04

This was a fascinating read on Assange, few years old now

ProfessorSlocombe · 14/04/2020 13:57

I can't see the US - of any political stripe - being thrilled with poor Ecuador over this.

stumbledin · 14/04/2020 13:42

I see the DM story is suggesting that they will now use the fact that the children and mother live in England so it would be against his "human rights" to deny him a family life!

Makes you wonder, as they say on the Homeland thread, whether she isn't his useful idiot.

And yes, surely in legal terms she can no longer be his lawyer.

OP posts:
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/04/2020 09:42

Possibly because health care in prisons is so poor that if the virus does start to spread it will be a death sentence to many of the inmates (and probably staff as well).

OhHolyJesus · 14/04/2020 09:34

This is gross, it's like reverse Stockholm Syndrome or something, very weird.
